Common Questions and Answers about Allergies in pregnancy

Avatar f tn I do remember reading somewhere that eating alot of nuts in your pregnancy can cause nut allergies but i dont know if this is true... it was on the internet.. I was never advised by my doctor to avoid them.. If its true though, my poor baby is screwed becasue I had peanut butter and almonds all through my pregnancy... it was difficult to eat meat at times so having nuts helped me stick to a more holistic diet.
Avatar f tn Is there such a thing as pregnancy allergies? I had this constant sneezing and sinus problem when I was preggo with my son. Didn't have it any other time. Now It's back and is killing me.
Avatar f tn I had allergies really bad at the begging of my pregnancy i got allegra d 24 hours and it helped out allot and my baby girl is healthy as can be
Avatar f tn I'm 8 weeks and my allergies are killing me. I read Claritin is safe but consult your doctor during first trimester. Is there anybody who has take. Claritin with a previous pregnancy during 1st trimester or taking now?
Avatar f tn ) is also supposed to be fine but I find it is not as effective for me. I wonder which ingredient in DayQuil helps for allergies - perhaps the decongestant? Since it is a cold symptom reliever, not an antihistamine, if it is the decongestant helping, you might want to call your doctor's office and ask about decongestants/expectorants that are safe. Also, the best suggestion I received during my last pregnancy when it came to congestion was to get a humidifier.
Avatar f tn I actually never had allergies until now that I'm pregnant and it's my second pregnancy. . They get really bad and last for like a whole week then go away and come back. .

Avatar n tn I am 29 weeks pregnant and have been suffering from vertigo for about the last month. It took forever for the doctors to figure out what was going on with me -- they thought I was dehydrated at first -- and now that they have, they've basically told me just to wait it out. I was in the ER the other night and they said they think the vertigo is being caused by a viral infection in my inner ear (but aren't sure). I think I have fluid in my ear from allergies.
231441 tn?1333892766 My life is turning upside from lack of sleep and resulting lack of energy and am far to early in pregnancy for this (am 5 months now and only just showing). I mentioned this to my Obe when I saw her last time and she just said to avoid the triggers.... but I haven't managed to identify them.... I don't see her for another 2 or 4 weeks. In meantime any ideas.
1839630 tn?1346513783 I am 23 weeks tomorrow and my allergies are making me miserable. the list of drugs my dr gave me says it is ok to take benedryl and claritin but i feel like anything that has bad side effects on me will have similar ones on the baby. So benedryl makes me sleepy therefore it will make the baby drowsy... idk if there is any truth to this at all but its what I keep thinking. Is there any truth to this? She has been moving like normal today after i took it.
Avatar f tn Hi all I just found out I'm pregnant and I stopped taking loratadine (aka claritin) for my allergies a few days ago bc I don't want it to do any harm to my baby, and I'm not sure whether or not it would. It's a class b medication which means they haven't done studies which show any harm or safety. The only problem is, when I don't take it I have post nasal drip which drains into my stomach and makes me nauseous.
Avatar f tn Hi! Congratulations! If you were my patient, I would advise you to take the absolute minimum medication that you can get away with during the first trimester especially. BUT having said that, Allegra is pregnancy category C which means that it CAN be used in pregnancy if the benefits out weigh the risks. Hope this helps!
Avatar f tn Yes... I had nearly no allergies before I became pregnant. Now I can't breathe :-(... Before this I've only had allergies once in my life and that was because i spent 6hours outside in pollen. The doctor said its because our bodies are pumping more blood than usual and the increase in hormones. it can even cause nose bleeds and runny nose...
Avatar f tn Yes Benadryl is safe during pregnancy. Just don't take over the amount posted on the package!
Avatar n tn Im 22weeks and 3rd pregnancy but first time being pregnant and with allergies. They say pure local honey is good for them but not sure if I could take it???
Avatar f tn Is it okay to take benadryl for your allergies? I can't breath cause I'm so congested. Any ideas?
Avatar n tn I've had severe allergies for 24 weeks! My whole pregnancy. I have been coughing and sneezing for this long! Now for a month now I have had ear aches, and sore throat. I take claritin once daily, delsum cough medicine, benadryl at night, for the pressure in my ear I plug my nose and mouth and blow air until I hear and feel a mild POP or use steam for nasal problems, I use saline non medicated nasal spray and gargle salt water, I'm gonna buy a humidifier to help too.
