1241045 tn?1268250883 My dog is a boxer and she constantly has ear infections. She shakes her head all the time. Short of cleaning her ears three times a day, what can I do about it? Can you put tubes in dogs ears like children? She also gets yeast in between her toes and is always licking them. And the smell is aweful! I was told it could be allergies, but the test for dogs is expensive. We have tried changing her diet and she still gets ear infections.

377012 tn?1283965435 Do you or anyone that your child is arround smoke? If you or someone else does please stop now. My son has asthma and my daughter has chronic ear infections, and I had to have a fit with my ex-in-laws because they continued to smoke around the kids after their docs told them that it was hurting the kids to smoke. And the tubes aren't miracles, my daughter has had 3 sets and 2 other ear surgeries and she still gets ear infections and she's 13.
209987 tn?1451935465 rule out infection? The stench is of concern....What does it smell like? Ear infections MUST be treated or ruled out! It also could be a yeast infection....Bacteria & Yeast both smell bad..... Next, what breed is your dog & how old is she? What do you feed? Name & how long she has eaten it....Including snacks.....This is important..... Some dogs can tolerate cheese & some dogs can't....Small nibbles of cheese (Preferably WHITE cheeses) won't hurt her.....
Avatar f tn I've never had allergies of any kind. Then I noticed my nose was runny sometimes. Sneezing some. Nothing alarming. Then I woke up and was having trouble swallowing - felt like something was stuck in my throat. Doc said there was tons of drainage - the diagnosis: allergies. I started zyrtec and flonase, and got a HEPA air purifier. I've had that for about 2 weeks. Annnd now I've developed ear infections in BOTH ears due to the allergies, even taking all that and with the filter.

Avatar m tn Other causes for these symptoms are inner ear infections; brain disorders heart problems, fever, stress, low blood pressure and anxiety. Please consult your GP who will examine you and may ask for blood tests for evaluating blood sugar and CBC. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn I have been experiencing rt ear throb on occasions, pain in eye sockets, headache on top of the head and when I bend to pick something up off the floor my eyes, nose, forehead feels heavy. I purchased some allergy meds which helps ease the aches in my eyes. I also take excedrine tense tabs which helps with the headaches. I am confused weather I should go to the ENT specialist or the optomologist or even both.
Avatar f tn In 15 months I've had 10 episodes of acute bronchitis, often accompanied by sinus and/or ear infection. It usually starts with cold symptoms, post nasal drip, unproductive cough leading to wheezing, coughing until I vomit and a trip to the doctor's for antibiotics. The last few episodes progressed from scratchy throat to full blown ear/sinus infection and bronchitis in 3 days. The usual treatment plan is antibiotics, inhaler (with steroids), nasal spray (like Nasonex).
1100598 tn?1413127426 My Holistic Vet prescribes it for ear infections and/or Yeast Infections.......I have used it for years before he ever made mention of it...... Other things for you to do: Add Wet food for at least one meal a day.....Extra moisture will help keep toxins flushed from her system and is vital for healthy organ function......No dog should live on dry food alone.... Next: You need to add a good probiotic to her meals....
1393879 tn?1288725449 This may be true of the child with allergies or ear infections. Sometimes the hearing is “normal”. At other times, hearing is impaired by fluid behind the ear drum. In some instances, if the ear drum ruptures, the hearing loss may continue for some time. Often children in this category are overlooked. The thinking is that they do have “normal” hearing. Although they do have normal hearing at times, other times they truly have difficulty.
Avatar f tn Besides loud noises, other causes include severe head trauma, sinus and respiratory infections, ear infections, wax build-up, high blood cholesterol, food allergies, certain types of tumors and a long list of other conditions.
Avatar n tn there is usually an underlying cause such as a puncture wound, a foreign object such as a grass seed in the ear, or most commonly allergies and secondary ear infections. The ear itch from allergies/infection causes the dog to shake his head and scratch his ear, creating the hematoma. If this is the case, then this is probably why the hematoma has recurred and he may go on to develop a hematoma in the opposite ear as well.
Avatar m tn Hello~Some ear infections are due to food allergies, are you aware of any allergies to foods? Also, you could have Candida, this is a type of yeast infection that can cause infections and fungus in the ears. I would go back to your doctor, tell him/her what is going on, and ask to be tested for these issues. To treat a fungus, take a good, high potency pro-biotic, this will help to put the friendly bacteria in your gut.
Avatar f tn My 9 month old lab keeps getting reoccuring yeast infections in his ear. The vet perscribed drops and a cleaning solution. We were able to clean them the first couple of times but now he won't let us come near him with the solution or drop.. He bites and barks at us. Giving him carrots, treats, his favorite bone to distract him doesn't work. Any idea how to help make this easier?
Avatar n tn Look into Candida, yeast overgrowth. Symptoms fit and the history of antibiotics, ear infections, AND allergies all point towards candida. In fact, I would put money on it. If I were you, I would read the book "The Yeast Connection". It really gets into the cycle that antibiotics create and how it allows the candida to grow and create the problems that doctors once again treat with antibiotics.
Avatar f tn My doctor was hoping the allergist would help guide us for future treatments. I am fearful for any infection like strep throat, ear or skin infections, we have run out of options.
1937918 tn?1323659449 Looks like you have developed another episode of otitis externa or infections of the external ear. Ear canals can get swollen due to infections when it is referred to as otitis externa. The infecting agents are bacteria, fungi and viral. Bacterial infections need antibiotics and fungal anti fungal agents. Viral infections are by exclusion and do not need any antibiotic therapy. Ear canals can also get swollen due to allergies or injuries.
Avatar m tn Viral infections are by exclusion and do not need any antibiotic therapy. Ear canals can also get swollen due to allergies or injuries. Consult your primary care physician who will do blood tests and take a swab and may do a culture to determine the cause and prescribe appropriate medications. In the meantime you can take OTC pain medication Ibuprofen. Ensure to take this medication after food to avoid gastritis. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Avatar f tn I've never had bad allergies before. In fact I would only sneeze once in a blue moon. But for a few weeks now my eyes have been itching so bad and I would itch them to the point that I've already had two infections of my eyelid on the left side.It would swell my eyelid almost till my eye was shut. I have a pretty bad history of staph infections. Also the roof of my mouth has been itching and when it starts to itch it will get these hard lumps on one side at a time.
Avatar n tn Although increased moisture in the ears can predispose a dog to ear infections, the likely primary cause is seasonal allergies, which are also a common cause of seasonal hotspots, itching and skin infections. A hotspot is a localized bacterial skin infection, secondary to allergies/self trauma.

1413097 tn?1281778999 Hi, we have a ridiculously healthy golden labrador retriever- except he keeps getting ear infections. He doesn't swim. He is on a low allergy dry food- and all tidbits have been stopped for the last 6 months- and still he is getting ear infections at the rate of every 2 months or more- it's is driving me (and him) mad! Any ideas? PLEaSE!
Avatar m tn Is it being caused by ear mites or allergies? I had a miniature schnauzer with natural ears who spent little time outside. He had seasonal allergies and my vet suggested Benedryl when he would start having similar issues. We would hide them in hot dogs. I didn't observe them having the same effect on him they have on me!
Avatar f tn Pus and hairloss indicates skin and ear infections. I recommend that you take your dog to the veterinarian for examination and treatment; oral and topical antibiotics are likely needed. If infections resolve with antibiotics but then recur, then an underlying allergy (food allergy or pollen/dust allergies) would be the cause.
Avatar n tn //www.medhelp.org/posts/Ear--Nose--Throat/removal-of-tonsils-for-recurring-sinus-infections/show/1292585#spiratory infection. Since the sinus infections began, though, I've mostly been seeing the ENT, rather than the allergist. I did ask the ENT if the allergies were part of the problem, and she thought they might be a contributing factor.
