Common Questions and Answers about Allergies and carpet

allergies

Avatar m tn I was just reading stuff about allergies and your home on different sites. My son and I have had a problem for years with eczema and sinus allergies. I realized just a few weeks ago that it was from all the dust in our house and especially in our carpet. The air purifier wasn't working...neither was the humidifier. So there's a lot of different articles out there that u can read about types of flooring that's better for ppl with allergies. This article (http://www.findanyfloor.
Avatar f tn I disagree. I've watched several reports that show a well vaccumed carpet is actually better for allergies then hardwood, the carpet "traps" the dust and especiallt the dog hair...with hardwood you will find that it floats around more.
Avatar m tn I just went through the same thing with our shih tzu and it was allergies. The vet gave him meds and he doesn't lick his feet anymore. Now he scratches his ears and I KNOW they aren't infected or anything because the vet just saw him. I think he's bored - unless he got something between going to the vet and coming home.
Avatar n tn Chances are that you have carpet somewhere and maybe dirty laundry. Make sure all the laundry is clean even if not in the room. Clothes that have been worn have pollen and dust mites. Vacuum the carpet a few hours before he gets there. Make sure your air filter on the AC or heater are changed or cleaned monthly. I think that might be all you can do. Some allergies come from under the carpet or behind the walls.
Avatar m tn When the filters do not work properly, allergens may be released into the air, causing typical allergy symptoms, such as watery eyes, runny nose, and wheezing. Wash shower curtains, bathroom tiles, and grout regularly and use a dehumidifier in your house. Also remove drapes, feather pillows, upholstered furniture, non-washable comforters and soft toys. Replace carpets with linoleum or wood. Vacuum (with HEPA filtered vacuum cleaners) soft furniture and curtains as well as floor.
209987 tn?1451935465 I tend to agree, it sounds like a yeast infection in the ear, which will need sorting with medication from the vet, otherwise it will just get worse and worse and could result in your dog damaging their inner ear permenantly. Allergies are invariably difficult to identify, yet without finding out what your dog is allergic to it becomes pot-luck to try and prevent it from getting worse. You can have a patch test done, but this can be expensive (ask your vet about it).

362249 tn?1441315018 I wanted a Bichon but my MIL insist it will ruin the carpet! and since she owns the house and bought the new carpet for it I'm just SOL!!
82818 tn?1206989814 any subjection on itchy skin for small dogs. I've tried prednisone pills. All kind if shampoo's and after a couples og days she's back to rolling on the carpet and scratching. It just drives her carzy. She is a 5lds yorkie.
Avatar f tn Well if you have carpeting the carpet needs to be cleaned once a month (usually), and vacuumed every day. Best thing for you to do is keep the cat in your room or far from your mother. Besides that bath it regularly and groom it after each bath as the cat hair being shed could create problems. There are also air filters which will help remove impurities in the air.
Avatar f tn Most dogs benefit from no grain kibble, and canned food of good quality. Some have protein allergies and the usual way is to limit diet to one protein and grain free. A switch to a wild "meat" like version or salmon is worth trying. Did you change the dog's dies before the rash cropped up? If yes, then return to the old diet. Food allergies can be hard to find and if there has been no change in the dog's diet I'll say food allergy is unlikely.
152660 tn?1291755571 I went back and looked over the description of the senior litter and it sounds like it might be helpful for some of our kitty friends with urinary troubles. http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2754844&lmdn=Brand&f=PAD%2FpsNotAvailInUS%2FNO I know our discussions always include foods and water intake but It didn't occur to me that a litter could be helpful for some of our buddies and that some of the older boy kitties squat too low and get too close to the litter.
Avatar m tn During that time, for the first time in years, my allergies totally left me. So did my asthma and headache symptoms. I really felt amazing. As soon as I left, they came back. Out of interest, I went back to the same building today for a couple of hours - and the same thing happened! I felt great after about 30 minutes in the building. What is so special about this building?
Avatar n tn You can get fleas breeding in the bedding and the carpet in your house. They make a spray to spray carpet and furniture with for fleas.
Avatar n tn She also seems to have gained weight, despite restricted and scheduled feeding, and is occasionally having moments of odd behavior....frantically eating the carpet and grass and acting very hyper when doing so. Please help!
Avatar n tn For the past two weeks or so he has been rubbing his eyes on the carpet, ground, and me. Also, two days ago when I took him to get him groomed, he would not let the groomer dry his face off. He has never had any problems letting the groomer dry him before. Is it possible that he has allergies or an eye infection? Any suggestions on the course of action I should take to deal with this problem? Thanks.
Avatar f tn Hello, I am 15 years old and around November 15th I got a cold that was going around school. Not too many people got it but the ones who did are still suffering. It began like a normal cold, runny nose, sore throat, coughing up phlem. But by the 3rd day (November 18th) I started noticing this tight sensation in my throat. When I felt my throat, it was only an inch big and was as thin as a straw. It scared me, but I just ignored it and figured it would go away.
Avatar f tn (if you can get puss used to the regular cleanings and be either diligent with the vacuum or get rid of your carpet you might be able to keep the cat even with a mild allergy.
Avatar m tn I’ve purchased a tanacetane spray (also known as tannic acid, which are very safe and supposedly very effective) and covered the carpet and upholstered furniture with it. However one thing that is a huge problem with me is medication compliance. Specifically I forget to take my medications 60% or more of the time because of a psychiatric disability. I take medications that impair my memory.
Avatar f tn Hello, The symptoms are suggestive of allergies. Take some antihistaminic like Benadryl and apply some calamine lotion. If the symptoms persist then please get an evaluation done by a dermatologist. you may need topical and oral steroids. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar f tn ARGH - I just had a long answer typed out and I LOST IT! GAH!!!! I can understand why you are disillusioned with doctors. And I hate to say it, but seeing a doctor may be the only way to get rid of whatever this is. However, (and I hate to say this) it sounds a lot like allergies. It's such a catch-all, but there you have it. Over the counter rememdies you may find helpful: 1- drink plenty of water. This will help thin the mucus you are clearing. 2 - cut back on dairy....
Avatar f tn The lung age of 70 years suggests that you may have lost some lung function but your doctor's having said your "lung function is fine" suggests that whatever lung function has been lost is or should be clinically insignificant. I suspect that you have COPD but that it may be in the Mild category of severity. You may also, as the pulmonologist suggested have asthma.
Avatar n tn I finally began to feel much better this week until the filter on my vacuum cleaner came off and spilled all over the carpet. I immediately began having these violent sneezing fits....very messy! And was left with more sneezing all the time, blowing my nose every few minutes, tickle in my nose all the time etc. Benadryl is the only thing that helps but cannot take it during the day because it literally puts me to sleep (I have a 4 year old at home).
Avatar n tn She was tested for allergies. The test showed that she was allergic to dogs, cats and dust mites. We have three dogs. We have had them for her whole life. Is is possible that she is just becoming allergic to them. She never had the asthma symptoms in years past. She has suffered headaches for many years though.
407812 tn?1211307057 Can allergies give me short of breath? and can I use a asthma pump to help with it? I'm allergic to pollen if that helps, sometimes I hear wheezing and sometimes I dont, is that bad? It gets me very nervous and to top it all I have anxiety.
Avatar n tn They have also been found associated with allergies both food and environmental and medicines. It is possible that in your son’s case that his tics are related to environmental allergies. Try changing his room if possible for few days and see if it helps. Let us know if you have any other questions.
9523089 tn?1414211966 Make sure his room is always kept very clean, dusted and vaccumed really well. Avoid carpet if possible in his room. Hypo-allergenic bed sheets and pillow cases are also a very good idea. Clean his bedding every weekend. A clean sterile bedroom without thick carpet, and humidity levels down, with the raised mattress under the head will surely improve his symptoms.
