allergic to clindamycin and penicillin

I'm allergic to penicillin and sulfa. Dentist prescribed Clindamycin 150 mg for 10 days for infection in my tooth. Got hives, rash, swollen lips and extreme itching and blotches from head to toe. Was on vacation so stopped medication after 3 days of taking it. It is now 5 days taking benadryl and the hives and itching have not stopped. What is in the clindamycin that I may be allergic to?

The similarity with penicillin is only important for people who are allergic to penicillin (as they will also be allergic to keflex). Personally, I would go with Azithromycin (or Clindamycin) if penicillin isn't working, but Cephalexin is different enough it might work. You can tell if its working if the pain/swelling go away in 4-5 days.

Hello, You seem to be allergic to penicillin/augmentin.Pls discontinue taking augmentin as you may get an anaphylactic reaction which may be fatal. Allergic reaction to augmentin includes hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

I would call your dr immediately and get switched to another antibiotic and see if you need to go to er. I am currently on penicillin for my tooth infection after root canal. It is working for me and not many issues.

You are probably allergic to the sulfa drug in the Bacterim (ampicillin/sulbactam) and the Keflex I don't know but can be allergic to any drug/antibiotic. I'm allergic to Murpirocin, neosporin, bacitracin, clindamycin, metronidazole all topicals and had a syncope from a tetracycline type drug. My brother is anaphylaxic to penicillin. It sounds like you can tolerate Mupirocin but the topical isn't enough for your tissue infection.

Are you allergic to penicillin? Are you still with your girlfriend? She needs to test for syphilis. If she is negative, you probably don't have it, unless you've been with someone else. Even if you aren't together, letting her know is the best thing to do, since untreated syphilis can have very serious complications. If your doctor didn't test you, go ask for a test.

I was allergic to the normal one they give (penicillin) so they had to give me clindamycin. They give you the antibiotic every 4 hours until you have your baby. I only needed it once. He came out beautiful and very healthy. It happens in every 1 out of 4 women, and as long as you get the antibiotic there is no reason to worry. Its just pretty much a bacteria you get. Just make sure if your water breaks go to the hospital right away so they can start the antibiotics.

In response to your question nothing was given for the swelling just to apply a ice pack to my face , I was given another antibiotic to take this was to replace the amoxicillin ( allergic to penicillin) this new antibiotic is clindamycin unfortunately could not continue on it due to "BAD,BAD stomach upset, contacted dentist office was told continue with the ice and just stop the medication oh and when can we schedule your next visit to finish the work on the tooth, crown etc.

16 titer ration, when they drew my blood. Now i am allergic to penicillin so i was given Doxycline to take for 28 days (56 pills total or 1 pill every 12 hours so twice a day.) my Doxycline is 100mg.
