Avatar n tn m having an allergic reaction to the Amoxicillin? Or maybe a better question is how long would a reaction to Amoxicillin take to appear? This is the first time in 15 years I've been on *any* type of antibiotic so I'm not sure I'd even know if I was allergic to any.
Avatar m tn Hi, a rash is a side effect of amoxicillin which is very different than an allergic reaction. An allergic reaction to amoxicillin (and then all penicillin based meds would be included) is sudden and intense and can quickly become life threatening. Rash is listed as a side effect to this antibiotic. Call the doctor but it is highly unlikely that it is an allergic reaction but a side effect.
Avatar n tn The initial “strange sensation” on your lip and itching all over is consistent with an allergic reaction to the Amoxicillin. Having tolerated the Z-pack well, your having a reaction to Clarithromycin would be unlikely but not impossible. Itching 48 hours after ingestion of an antibiotic to which a person is allergic is not uncommon. Any of these reactions could be accentuated by anxiety. You are being cautious, not paranoid, and that is a good thing.
Avatar m tn Hello dear and welcome to the medhelp forum. You have most probably suffered from an acute allergic reaction to the consumption of the penicillin antibiotic. Your doctor is right in saying that you need not become paranoid about it. My only concern is that your physician should rule out steven johnsons syndrome which is due to an immune system disorder mostly secondary to drugs like penicillin and sulphonamides. Clinical features are fever, sore throat, skin and mucosal lesions.
753096 tn?1233582336 Hello, Yes,you can become allergic to even cats or dogs. Cat allergen, the allergy causing material from cats, is not cat hair, but rather a protein present in the dander and saliva of cats. These allergens become airborne as microscopic particles, which when inhaled into the nose or lungs can produce allergic symptoms. After moving in a new house, people can become allergic to even dust mites and molds.
Avatar m tn I had difficulty figuring out that I was having an allergic reaction to the amoxicillin because many of the symptoms (abdominal pain and swollen glands) were similar to the original infection and the more classis symptoms (tching and hives) didn't appear until after I had finished my third prescription. My question? Is amoxicillin less effective in fighting an infection if you are allergic to the antibiotic? If so, would it be completely useless or still have some of the desired effect?
Avatar f tn Sometimes people who are allergic to amoxicillin aren't actually allergic to amoxicillin. A lot of times the illnesses that amox is used to treat can cause a rash as well which is why many people who aren't really allergic get labeled as having an allergy... There is also the possibility that it's only amox you are allergic to and not penicillins as a whole.
Business woman2 My Niece broke out in a rash all over looked like chicken pox we took her to the dr she had been on Amoxicillian for an ear infection for 6 days and had taken it before the dr said it was an allergic reaction to the amoxicillin or a virius to stop giving the amoxicillin to her and give her benyadell we did the rash got a little better but broke out in other places and now she has pain in her joints all over and swelling in her joints Is this part of the allergic reaction or is something els
Avatar m tn The doctor proceeded to tell my parents and I that there was something within the ingredients of the beer that I was allergic to. I am now 21 years old, have had multiple allergic reactions to beer and other malt beverages, although the reactions were not as sever. I have been working with allergy doctors to try and figure out what it is that I’m allergic to, but have been unsuccessful. Any help?
440120 tn?1211724496 I was wondering about the kitten possibly given me these allergic symptons and is is possible to become allergic to cats so late in life and I have never had any other allergies before?
1470662 tn?1287789856 You're more than welcome for the feedback. I would definitely call your doctor regarding the amoxicillin and itching - it is possible that it is an allergic reaction. You can get an allergic reaction to anything even if you've taken it before. Just because you've been able to eat or take something in the past, it does not (unfortunately) preclude you from getting an allergic reaction to it another time.
Avatar f tn I have been able to clear and heal the wound and have been dosing him with amoxicillin. He seems to have an allergy to this antibiotic as I have discovered hes been throwing up in the basement. This is the usual drug I use to treat abscess-type infections and I want to make sure the interior infection clears up. Is there a good alternative to amoxicillin for this type of infection?
676912 tn?1332812551 Sometimes it takes a little longer to get into their systems especially when they have had a bad allergic reaction... It took Richie a few days to recover from his allergic thing with his exzema but the calamine lotion really helped. I would say if he is not better by tonight then first thing tomorrow take him to the doctor's and see if they can give you something prescription lotion for the skin problem... Oatmeal baths work well too!
Avatar f tn Usually people who are allergic to cats are really allergic to the pollen that can collect on their fur. So it's more like a hay-fever kind of allergy than an allergy to the cat. If you are itching because you work with someone who has cats...maybe it's the perfume she is wearing. I noticed you joined the cat forum, so welcome.
Avatar n tn I was put on Cephalexin 500mg twice a day, to cure Impetigo that I developed after a bad chest cold. I am allergic to amoxicillin, but my doc said I shouldn't react to it. It has been 3 days since I have started the medication, and I have developed little red bumps all over my body, and I am becoming very itchy. Could this be the antibiotic's doing?
1265027 tn?1284839951 if the person has an allergic past history. It is quite evident that your son is allergic to penicillins. Avatar f tn Hi, welcome to the forum, most probable cause can be severe allergic reaction to amoxicillin in the form of angioedema. This may be associated with laryngeal swelling leading to respiratory obstruction. Hence, it is important to rule out this condition. It usually involves three types of attack like- The skin (cutaneous attacks) The gastrointestinal tract (abdominal attacks) and The larynx (laryngeal attacks) Adverse cutaneous reactions to drugs are common encountered now a days esp.
365714 tn?1292199108 t necessarily mean you would have to get rid of your cats or anything. We found out my oldest son was allergic to cats and dogs and this was after having pets for awhile! The doctor just said to have him wash his hands after petting them and to not let them in his bedroom. He needed one place where he could be without cat hair, etc. He also was taking allergy medicine and then the allergy shots for awhile.
Avatar m tn Tried a sip of wine during my honeymoon in Greece last month to test the reaction. It was local house wine, no reaction what-so-ever. First time in years that I could enjoy wine with no issues. Anyone have an idea of what it is that I am allergic to?
Avatar n tn s boyfriend said that his mom is allergic to cats. He says that my daughter would not be able to go over to his house and he would not be able to visit our apartment. I've never heard of someone having a reaction when they are not in direct contact with the cat or the environment. His mother has never been over to our house. Just trying to understand.
Avatar n tn Hello, It seems that you have had a serious allergic reaction to the antibiotics.Hives may appear on the body even by touch in cases of serious allergic reactions.Take some antihistaminic like benadryl or Claritin. They are available over the counter and will help in relieving hives. However benadryl may cause drowsiness. If the symptoms persist then you may need oral steroids which are available only on prescription.Sometimes these drugs have to be taken for a longer time period. Hope it helps.
My mom did tell me I used to take amoxicillin when I was a kid and never had any reactions (although I did develop a skin reaction to a Sulpha drug in the past) Since Wednesday I've taken seven 250 mg doses.
Avatar f tn Hi, her symptoms are suggestive of allergic reaction to amoxicillin. Usually with previous exposure it will not cause any reaction. Any subsequent use can trigger the reaction. The reaction which is seen is anaphylactic and late serum sickness type of reaction. This is actually an emergency condition you should take her to the hospital esp. if there is breathing difficulty. She should be managed by anti-histaminic and steroids which take care of the allergic symptoms.
Avatar n tn Hello, Cat allergen, the allergy causing material from cats, is not cat hair, but rather a protein present in the dander and saliva of cats. These allergens become airborne as microscopic particles, which when inhaled into the nose or lungs can produce allergic symptoms. A frequent and very thorough cleaning of your house is important during this time because animal allergens are sticky and adhere to walls, clothing and other surfaces.
