Avatar n tn There are diabetic education classes all around and scads of book and just try Googling "diabetes diet" for something sensible like a day or two of meal plans. The big thing is carbohydrate counting so get a carb book. If he takes Humalog insulin, dose would be 1 unit per 10 grams carb. If not, you must watch the simple sugars carefully. Small amounts of fruit are okay and larger amounts can be tolerated after eating protein.
1399124 tn?1401020004 Wow thanks that helps a lot. Possible to see some of your menu ideas? I am doing over all pretty well but good ideas from people in the same position is always great. Have a great day and thanks again..
Avatar n tn Even cooked vegetables are good for you and have very few calories, unless you top them sauces, cheese, etc. You don't have to stick with a single diet program. If you opt for high protein, whole grains, low/no fat dairy and lots of veggies, you should be fine. Watch portion sizes.
6366876 tn?1381757055 As stated above, a varied diet is necessary to get all the nutrients you need. On the other hand, juicing is really just another form of food processing, it's cooking essentially without as much heat, so you could juice everything you need and get everything you need but you'd have to juice high protein foods as well as just vegetables. There are also some nutrients that are actually increased by cooking, such as carotenoids, and eventually you will get sick of just juicing.
Avatar n tn It might help you lose weight, depending on how small the portions are, but it's not healthy... You aren't eating anything that has protein, at all and what you're eating has very few vitamins/minerals, like B-12, calcium, etc. You need to add some type of meat, dairy, eggs, beans, legumes or something with protein and since vitamin B-12 only comes from animal products you either need to supplement or add some of those animal products to your diet.

768251 tn?1256734583 Atkins Diet. Read the book. Induction all the way to re-introduction of Carbs. It is as simple as that. If done correct it is safe, and enjoyable.
Avatar f tn Lean protein? = Chicken and veggies, protein supplements etc. I recommend starting a stronger vitamin supplement and start taking Probiotics, your body needs them in order to absorb nutrients, when taking probiotics get the ones that are kept in the fridge and not the ones on the shelf it makes an enourmous difference. Also to boost your immunity take Echinacea.

Avatar n tn She will not longer drink milk and gets barely any protein at all now. Her meals are ridiculously small and t is a battle to get her to eat what she does. Piece of turkey bacon and a pretzel for breakfast. 2 crackers one eency piece of cheese and one eency piece of turkey for lunch. Dinner is usually a little healthy pasta. But that is it for a day, that is the wining menu to get her to eat at all. I am worried that she is developing an eating disorder.
Avatar f tn I had a tt last june. I didn't eat after midnight on the day before. I got up the next morning....no water, coffee or anything. I did take one pill in the morning with one swallow of water and that was ok. My surgery was at 11:00 a.m. After surgery when I woke, I could have anything I wanted...pop, water...whatever. Then at five they brought supper. I was kind of out of it and didnt eat much, but it was a hamburger, fries, a salad and jello. I didnt have a liquid diet at all.
Avatar n tn After you get past the first week, you can slowly add carbohydrates back into your diet. I always lose weight when I follow this diet too which is nice. :) It's also a good diet for anyone who has pre-diabetes or insulin resistance since it also helps to lower insulin and reset sugar cravings. I have a sample pre-planned menu if you're interested that I can pass it along to you.
Avatar f tn Can anyone direct me to a good website that will teach me how and what to eat. I am sure I am going to get a diagnosis of Type 2 diabetes this week. My blood glucose this AM when I woke up was 200. It's been running about 125-130 all week. I also get some pretty low numbers during the day and start to feel weak and jittery. I'd just like to see what the diet looks like before I go in to see my doctor. Thanks.
Avatar m tn protein and phosphorus. Restrictions in sodium, potassium, fluid and calories are based on individual needs. Because of restriction in certain foods, the diet is deficient in calcium, iron, Vitamin B12 and zinc. The diet aims to reduce the workload of the diseased kidney by reducing the urea, uric acid, creatinine and electrolytes (that must be excreted) and postpone the need for dialysis.
Avatar n tn I have a 9.5 months old and he's 16lb. My doctor is very worry about his weight but I think he's perfectly fine. He's alert, playful most of the time and has very good routine. He's not a picky eater. I'm just wondering what kind of nutrient dense food can I give it to him to boost his weight? I've heard that adding margerine for seriously underweight infant? Should I add more protein food (tofu, meat?) Thank you.
377493 tn?1356502149 This has been going on since mid January. Prior to that he had a cold and an ear infection. All of these things combined have caused him to lose a great deal of weight, and he is now only 17 lbs. He still won't eat a lot, but is eating solids. We are working hard to get his weight back up to normal, and I was given a sheet of some really basic suggestions.
1415174 tn?1453243103 I am vegan and use a vegan protein powder to supplement 20 grams extra a day. So my total protein is about 75-80 grams (not 95g). I read that you can get too much growth hormone (which is good for building muscle) but it creates insulin like growth factor (ILGF). Too much ILGF can potentially cause cancer. So that is what I am asking. What has anyone read about this.
Avatar f tn Until you get some proper advice all I would recommend would be to cut out nearly all junk food, sweets, chips crisps etc. Introduce more fruit and veg. Switch to sweet potatoes where possible. Switch to diet drinks if she is a fizzy drink fan but try limiting those and offer juice instead. Oats and garlic are excellent at reducing cholesterol levels so try and get some of those into the diet. Lastly up her exercise level...go for long walks etc.
Avatar f tn m normally a very healthy eater and will have a variety of protein and vegetables daily. I know that eating healthy is the most important thing now than before as I'm expecting but I just can't seem to keep any of it down. Every time I eat anything remotely healthy I feel nautious all day. If I eat grilled cheese sandwiches, crackers, on and j I'm fine. What do I do? Am I hurting my baby?
