Avatar n tn After months of intrusive tests following multiple infections, my daughter was diagnosed with mild nephropathy a few years ago at the age of about 8 or 9, and then diagnosed with type 1 Diabetes a few months ago (at the age of 13). After the "mild nephropathy" diagnosis, she went to a specialist every year for a few years to check on the kidney damage, and it didn't change (ie didn't get worse), so they said she didn't need to keep going back.
Avatar m tn my husband was told he has type 2 diabetes and his kidneys are only functioning at 50%. He was told to stop drinking soda and diet soda and drink a lot of water. What can be causing this? He is 63 yrs old and has been taking blood pressure. coloeteral medication along with a diuretic. Should he have ultra sound done to see if there is another problem creating this problem?
Avatar m tn This can be adult onset as well. Treatment for type 1 diabetes is always insulin (combined with diet and other lifestyle measures to help management). Hope this is helpful for you.
Avatar n tn Microalbuminuria (persistent albumin in the urine) has been shown to be the earliest stage of diabetic nephropathy (kidney disease) in Type 1 diabetes and a marker for development of nephropathy in Type 2 diabetes. Microalbuminuria is also a marker of increased cardiovascular disease. An annual test for the presence of microalbumin should be done. Talk to your diabetes educator/doctor about gaining weight.
Avatar n tn I dream every night now and they are crazy ones. Not to mention I get the tingling in my hands and feet, plus palpitations every now and then. But the dreams are the worst.
Avatar m tn What are the symtoms of both diseases that you wrote about (IgA nephropathy or Systemic lupus erythematosus)? He does have Diabetes, High Blood Pressure and blocked arteries in his heart.
Avatar m tn My father in law was not well controlled with his type 2 diabetes. He ended up hospitalized with edema and actually began hallucinating. He was in the hospital a week and we were told that he either started dialysis three tines a week or he'd pass away. He started the dialysis. It was difficult but he got on a schedule and maintained it. He lived like that for many years after. I also am not understanding the info on her urea test. (that's the BUN test, correct).
Avatar f tn Type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus causes a condition called diabetic nephropathy, which is the leading cause of kidney disease in the United States.
Avatar n tn Since then, I have had several panic attacks and was put on Lexapro 20mg and Xanax .5mg as needed. Most of my panic attacks happen in restaurants and I end up fainting. It is getting to the point where I don't want to eat out anymore because I am afraid of humiliating myself and whoever I happen to be having lunch or dinner with. It doesn't happen all the time, but when it does it hits me so fast I barely have time to warn my dinner date that I might faint.
Avatar f tn It did not occur in patients with type 2 diabetes with or without insulin treatment or in control subjects. Only retinopathy and peripheral neuropathy were associated with sclerosing lymphocytic lobulitis. Breast carcinoma or lymphoma did not occur subsequently in any type 1 diabetes patient with or without sclerosing lymphocytic lobulitis. CONCLUSIONS: Sclerosing lymphocytic lobulitis is strongly associated with type 1 diabetes. Retinopathy and neuropathy are associated with the disorder.
Avatar m tn One can typically prevent type 2 diabetes by lifestyle choices of proper weight, exercise and eating habits. This is considered non insulin diabetes. With type 2 diabetes, blood sugar is too high. The body doesn't make insulin well anymore or use it well. It's usually slow developing and can be reversed. I hope this answers your question. Please let us know if you would like any more information!
Avatar n tn Some people are able to control Type 2 diabetes with losing and maintaining healthy weight, lowering carb intake and regular exercise. Some are not, and need medication. It is impossible to answer your question because every diabetic is different and it would depend on how high your numbers were to begin with and what you ate and did. Serious consequences (complications) from diabetes don't occur in 24 hours, they occur over time spent at high numbers.
Avatar m tn They keep prescribing beta blockers, which are relatively worthless, and ignoring the enormous potential for ARBs in people with MFS, EDS, LDS, etc and other connective tissue disorders. Please google "Marfan and losartan" as a starting point for your research, realizing that losartan is probably the weakest ARB out there and that others are much stronger.
Avatar m tn If you are having trouble maintaining good blood sugar levels, I suggest you go to your doctor and rework your medication and diabetes control plan. Keeping your sugars under control is crucial.
Avatar n tn There are more than 1 antibody to test for, and also some other tests to define between type 1 and 2. Dinner persons with type 1 are apparently antibody negative. Your presentation doesnt appear typical for type 2. Please see what your endocrinologist says. Regardless, if insulin is what works then don't be concerned to take it. Let us know what happens with your endo visit.

Avatar n tn I know there are no doctors on the forum, but this is to anyone that can help. I have had type 1 for about a year and a half and have had my A1C's below 6 almost the entire time (except like the first two). I am SUPER vigilent about testing and keeping my numbers good. I went to the doctor last week and my Serum Creatinine came back elevated at 1.6 (usually 1.3-1.4 for the past 8-9 months) and they want me to do a 24hr. Urine for protein.
Avatar n tn I am not a physician, but a mom of a type one and the daughter of a type 2. In a type one diabetic commonly called Juvenile diabetes( because it usually is diagnoses in children , but I know people that were in they 30's and 40's and were diagnosed) is when the body stop s producing insulin. Type 2 diabetics your body still produces insulin, but cannot use it properly use the insulin without help of medication.
