Common Questions and Answers about Alendronate warnings

fosamax

Avatar f tn I took my first dose of Alendronate and then experience significant muscle pain for the next 4 days. Does anyone know if I should expect this to happen each time I take it or is it something to happen for the first few times until my body adjusts to the medicine?
Avatar n tn Do you mean Fosamax (alendronate)? If you do, its for treating bone problems like Osteoperosis by adding bone mass and slows bone loss. I use it for Osteopenia.
Avatar m tn The prescription drug Fosamax (the generic is alendronate sodium) is a medication which has been prescribed to hundreds of thousands of postmenopausal women to treat osteoporosis and help increase bone mass thereby reducing the chance of spinal or non-spinal fractures. Fosamax has also been prescribed to increase bone mass in men with osteoporosis. Brand name Fosamax is manufactured in the United States by Merck Sharp & Dohme Corp., a subsidiary of Merck & Co., Inc.
Avatar m tn The authors examined the effects of high-dose oral alendronate (40 mg daily) for 6 months on 3 adult patients with intractable headache due to fibrous dysplasia of the skull. Each patient had disease processes not amenable to surgery. The patients underwent clinical follow-up at 1, 3, and 6 months. Their pain levels were documented at each visit by using a visual analog scale. All 3 patients demonstrated a significant decrease in pain levels and became independent of scheduled analgesics.
874521 tn?1424116797 So I read these articles and it seems that Merk was sued in 2010. I have not read everything on this, but wouldn't you think major warnings would have come out about this 3 years ago. I wonder if removing the chip is an option Such a shame. This was the "Holy Grail" for identification. Seems the more we take care of our kits (chips, vaccinations, meds) the more harm can be done.
Avatar f tn I am also taking Aromasin for bc. Stopped alendronate (I am osteopenic due to 30 yrs of prednisolone and Arimidex) in case this caused the oesophagitis. Would appreciate your advice.

Bradycardia has generally occurred within hours to days, but cases have been observed up to 2 weeks after initiating HCV treatment.
Avatar f tn I got two warnings over the same post, and it's ridiculous because I was the one who kept reporting my own post just because I wanted it deleted..

Avatar f tn Osteoporosis medications like Raloxifene (Evista), alendronate (Fosomax), risendronate (Actonel) and ibandronate (Boniva) all can cause flu like symptoms in individuals that are taking them. I am not sure what medications you are on, but this could be your problem.
Avatar f tn Therefore, TORADOL is CONTRAINDICATED in patients with active peptic ulcer disease, in patients with recent gastrointestinal bleeding or perforation, and in patients with a history of peptic ulcer disease or gastrointestinal bleeding. Elderly patients are at greater risk for serious gastrointestinal events (see WARNINGS). CARDIOVASCULAR RISK NSAIDs may cause an increased risk of serious cardiovascular thrombotic events, myocardial infarction, and stroke, which can be fatal.
Avatar n tn Google brand name antihistamines and read the warnings. Wow, all of them that I googled had warnings about prostate problems, urinary problems or BPH. Even nasal sprays and Visine A. Whats a fella my age to do? I try not to take them because the urinary probs are quite problematic. I will be so glad when the hay fever season has passed.
898832 tn?1243968023 there are all kinds of warnings with this drug. anyone on it? i thought it was supposed to work with another antidepressent. i dont think its indicated for anxiety. but, who am i? i just dont trust these types of meds.
Avatar n tn This may have to happen every so often to keep your warnings good. I am living proof. I had completely lost all warnings and after doing this, have recovered them perfectly enough that NOW, I find that I have clear warnings if sugar levels drop even down to 70 or even if they go up to about 140. My warnings go off if I have any variation from the norm at all.
Avatar n tn Also, would it perhaps be possible to add some alendronate, or something else to help her bone density and still be able to benefit from the thyroid medication? Thank you so much!
Avatar n tn The recent warnings about citalopram at doses higher than 40 mg per day and long q-t syndrome or even bradycardia are issues you should take up with your doctor, copies of the warnings in hand. Actually, you need to pose your questions to a doc with a good background in pharmacology.
Avatar f tn Even said her 9 year old daughter was on Protonix. After learning of the latest warnings of these drugs, increased risk of fractures, inablility to fight certain types of bacteria, etc., I really wanted to go off of this drug. I have not been able to do so, as the pain interrupts my sleep and with fragmented sleep I am a zombie the next day. Is there a "step down" treatment available?
