Alendronate in avn

Common Questions and Answers about Alendronate in avn

fosamax

Avatar n tn Even if the appearance of AVN has not changed over the last several years, if it has not resolved, it can always get worse. A change in activity, or a second trauma would certainly put you at risk; even a sudden increase in weight could be a risk. As far as tibotalar fusion, I think you have been misinformed. The fusions can be very successful, at times they can be done arthroscopically, and often do not limit activity.
Avatar f tn What could they have possibly of seen in the CT that was not AVN? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I live in Canada so third and fourth opinions don't really happen. Thanks so much for your time.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Bitlateral AVN of the knees in 1999 in 2001 I subsequently underwent a total knee replacement on the right. I developed infection to which I underwent surgery to clean out the infection which was unsuccessful and later underwent the removal of the replacement and antiseptic spacer was put in for 6 weeks and then I went back to surgery to have that removed and a new replacement put in.
1131208 tn?1260207946 I then had an MRI and it was determined that I had the beginnings of AVN in that hip which was more than likely caused by about 10 years of oral steroids for asthma when I was younger. Anywho...the pain continued and I endured multiple steroid injections, anti-inflam patches, creams, anti-inflam pills, TENS unit...you name it, i've tried it. Last January I lost my job and I make too much on unemployment to qualify for healthcare assistance (it's a great group to be in let me tell ya!
Avatar m tn Total ankle replacement is now an accepted treatment for ankle arthritis, but cannot always be performed if AVN is present. The ankle replacement must have a good bone to sit on, and if the AVN is extensive, it cannot be performed. If a fusion of the subtalar joint is performed first, there is often sufficient bone underneath the talus then to support the ankle prosthesis. 3. Drilling of the talus.
Avatar f tn I took my first dose of Alendronate and then experience significant muscle pain for the next 4 days. Does anyone know if I should expect this to happen each time I take it or is it something to happen for the first few times until my body adjusts to the medicine?
Avatar n tn Do you mean Fosamax (alendronate)? If you do, its for treating bone problems like Osteoperosis by adding bone mass and slows bone loss. I use it for Osteopenia.
Avatar f tn My wife aged 45 under went ‘ femoral head decompression with BMC’ almost six moth back, her AVN stages were 1 in left and 2 in right, even after six months she still have pain on side slightly limping. Now in X-ray shows 4 cavities on right and one on left. One doctor was saying it was useless doing the surgery. Could anyone can help please.
Avatar f tn My father was just diagnosed with AVN and has been experiencing severe pain throughout his left leg (he has AVN in his left hip joint). We went to a doctor earlier who asked us to get an MRI and suggested that he might need a surgery. My Dad wants to avoid the joint replacement surgery and so he went for the Nerve Block treatment. I have seen his x-ray and the AVN looks pretty bad.
Avatar m tn Fosamax has also been prescribed to increase bone mass in men with osteoporosis. Brand name Fosamax is manufactured in the United States by Merck Sharp & Dohme Corp., a subsidiary of Merck & Co., Inc. Avatar m tn The bones die and eventually collapse, leading to pain and arthritis. You can have osteonecrosis in one or several bones. It is most common in the upper leg. Other common sites are your upper arm and your knees, shoulders and ankles. The disease can affect men and women of any age, but it usually strikes in your thirties, forties or fifties. Early in the disease you might not have any symptoms. Later, you will probably have joint pain that becomes more severe as the disease gets worse.
Avatar f tn I'm a 40yr old woman, in 2007 I had to have a bi-lateral hip replacement. Long story short, the hospital who did it put already recalled parts in me after 9mos of dragging my legs behind me as I used crutches as my legs due to AVN which they never found out why I got it. So now I've been in excruciating pain for several months due to the problems with these prosthetics&I can't find a surgeon to help me. I rarely eat, drink, sleep.....live due to this.
Avatar m tn Tumor bulk did not progress during this interval in any patient. Overall, alendronate was tolerated well, although in 1 patient it was discontinued early due to esophagitis. High-dose oral bisphosphonate therapy is an alternative therapeutic option for the palliative treatment of patients with fibrous dysplasia of the skull.
Avatar f tn Whilst on holiday in Spain I fell approx 6 ft with full force downwards on my left foot. The Spanish doctors initially saw no break, but a second doctor noticed a break in the talus bone and put my leg in a half cast for support whilst travelling back by plane to England. Once home I went to hospital thinking they would put the leg in a full cast but the doctor said I had just severe swelling and couldn't see a break!!
Avatar m tn If at such a place he is deemed to be a very high surgical risk then one can start thinking about percutaneous aortic valve replacement. Understand that at this moment this is only available as a part of a research study in in very large centers for compassionate use in very symptomatic patients, and carries significant morbidity and mortality.
Avatar f tn The first orthopedic doctor I saw about it assumed it was hip bursitis (without x-rays first), and gave me a big fat cortisone injection in my hip. Then, 2 weeks later, he put me on steroids. I read that this disease (AVN) can be aggravated by steroids. Needless to say, I will be going to a different orthopedic doctor! So, do you think it is possible that the MS actually does play a role in the AVN of my hip? Very interesting. Thank you again.
Avatar f tn I have hip pain because of spasticity - I can dig my fingers into the top of my hips and get some relief.
Avatar f tn AVN came to my mind as well. It certainly would need to be ruled out. Spasticity might be another possibility. We aren't always aware how much 'tension' we're carrying in our muscle until it gets so bad normal movements are impossible. It might be significant that you were walking about the mall (hard concrete floor) before this set in. I find that a small amount of fatigue or pain can spark a wildfire of spasms that make me frightened to move at all.
