Aldara to treat molluscum

Common Questions and Answers about Aldara to treat molluscum

aldara

Avatar n tn How long after you stopped the aldara did you get this spot?
Avatar n tn I went back to my obgyn. She put acid on them and prescribed Aldara - she told me to wait 3 days and apply twice a day, every day. It was awful. The area near the vagina that she treated with acid blistered all up once I started the aldara, and the top part of my crotch got all inflammed, much worse! I stopped it after 3 days and put neosporin on the blistered one and vinegar and powder on the others. The blister went away in 3 days and that one is a faded lump.
Avatar f tn I think a 2-month long outbreak is completely unusual for herpes - outbreaks tend to last a few days. If your Dr. specified it as molluscum, is there a reason you are feeling unsure?
Avatar n tn I waited a month but no resolution or going away so I decided to see a dermatologist and he diagnose the MC. He used liquid nitrogen to freeze those and prescribe me Aldara. As far as I know, MC is not spreading anywhere it been in one place for a month about 20 or 30. My questions are as follows: 1)I don't have any girlfriend neither I am sexually active at all. last time I had sex was in last summer 2008. So, I don't know how I got those.
Avatar f tn I am going to go down to be tested for herpes tomorrow (I was told I had Molluscum by a NP a month ago after having it for about a month but she didn't swab or take any other tests to confirm or deny it, plus the sores in question look different and I'm unsure they were there when I first went down) and I read if the herpes sore isn't new, the result isn't always positive with a swab.. so I would assume it would be best to take a blood test..
Avatar n tn t genital warts because of the way they looked and told me that it looks like Molluscum Contagiosum virus. She even perscribed me a topical ointment called Aldara to use every other day on the spots. It's been a little over a month and there is no improvement. I am so self conscious about these bumps and they're now spreading down my upper thighs. I'm going to the bahamas in December and I want to be able to wear a swim suit on the beach.
Avatar m tn molluscum contagiosum, whats the best way to have it treated if you are looking to avoid the cutting and nitrogen. The urologist said it will go away on it own eventually and I did some searching and saw some stuff about tea tree oil and such?
Avatar m tn He prescribed Aldara cream 5 % and asked me to apply. I applied a full sachet at a time daily in the nights for about 20 days. I think that some of the excess aldara cream also got on to me scrotum testicle skin which turned the area red. After a few days, there was a watery discharge which further developed into small ulcers. I tried all types of creams and neem oil on it which i think worsened the situation. I showed them to my doc and he told that it is herpes so get tested for it.
Avatar f tn t seem to be tolerating the aldara. Aldara can take several months to work as it is, if it even works. I don't think you are going to be tolerating this much pain for that long by continued use of it.
Avatar f tn A couple of months ago I started growing these bumps that I suppose were contracted sexually. Went to the doctor and had them diagnosed as Molluscum. In the process of getting rid of them she put acid on them (2 different sessions) which helped but certainly did not take care of the issue. She prescribed me Aldara, Imiquiod 5%. It is to be used at night and washed off in the morning around 6-10 hours later.
Avatar m tn What you describe sounds in location as though it could be folliculitis although molluscum is a possibility as well. Molluscum might well respond to Aldara or topical acid wart treatment but would be likely to recur. The same is true for folliculitis. Either of these tend to recur and occasionally can crop up in different locations. They really sound little like warts at all.
Avatar f tn I have molluscum on my genitals and received cryotherapy and aldara cream... where the cryotherapy took place it looks like the white head is coming out of the skin like its being pushed upward to fall out... it looks like i can take the white head out with tweezers... is this a good idea or really dumb?
Avatar m tn d like to get a culture test or something to make absolutely sure!. Medication for Molluscum is terrifying (Aldara/Imiquimod is not only expensive, but will leave me looking like a belong in the burn ward) PLEASE tell me that you've figured this out!?, and please tell me they've gone away!? Has anyone else had these symptoms? Any ideas?
Avatar m tn Individual molluscum lesions may go away on their own and are reported as lasting generally from 6 to 8 weeks, to 2 or 3 months. However via autoinoculation, the disease may propagate and so an outbreak generally lasts longer with mean durations variously reported as 8 months,to about 18 months, and with a range of durations from 6 months to 5 years. For mild cases, over-the-counter wart medicines, such as salicylic acid may shorten infection duration.
Avatar n tn ve been using aldara for about 3-4 months now. It took about 6-7 weeks to start working for me. It cleared up my warts in about 8 weeks but had another outbreak. It has cleared up everything so far. I'm waiting to go on a follow up appt so I guess will find out soon. How long have you been using aldara? I also had a yeast infection when i was diagnosed w/ hpv.
Avatar n tn I've been battling molluscum and have nasty eczema and a bit of a secondary infection from picking the bumps. Dr. prescribed me prednisone and ciproflox. I'm sooo itchy all over but i don't want to take prednisone if it's going to make the molluscum worse. Is the prednisone a bad idea?
Avatar n tn Well, I don't know what it is to say if it's curable. Certainly acne is. So is molluscum, for that matter. Actually lancing molluscum is a way of treating it, the only risk there is it's pretty easy to spread so you have to be very careful to not get the contents of the core on anything. You can also treat it with freezing, burning, Aldara, or Retin-A. One note is a molluscum center is harder and waxy, not so much like more liquid puss.
Avatar m tn - Has anyone had a similar experience with molluscum spreading to different parts of your body from shaving/buzzing? - How easily can it realistically spread around your body from autoinoculation? - Can the molluscum trigger my skin/immune system (I have atopic skin) into breaking out in folliculitis? - Can the hot/humid environment where I live contribute to autoinoculation? - Should I believe the derm in saying that it is folliculitis?
Avatar m tn Or ask himn to show you how to treat new lesions yourself, by pricking the top with a sterile needle then pressing out the white core just as you would with a pimple. (We often teach this to patients this in my STD clinic.) Wash your hands and the genital area after treating lesions in this way, to avoid spreading the virus around. Or if your dermatologist for some reason doesn't think this is a good idea, find another one -- or visit the local STD clinic. I hope this helps.
Avatar f tn ve noticed the red painless irritation (doesnt seem to have any fluid inside) for almost 5 days or even more, is it safe to put my mind as ease and almost rule out herpes. I did apply the aldara to the anal region due to the fact i thought I had a molluscum bump there. So I know I may have been a little over zealous with the Aldara! It is normal or possible to react in one place and not the other?
Avatar f tn i have received cryotherapy and aldara cream for treatment of molluscum contagiosum a week ago to the date... the scabs have fallen off but there is still a lot of redness on the open skin and can still see the white bumps inside the open scab... does this mean i will have to undergo another cryotherapy again? how long does it usually take for cryotherapy to heal and is there anyway of speeding up the healing process?
Avatar n tn The only topicals used to treat MC are Aldara and Retin-A. Anything else is likely to be a scam. Aldara is used more typically, and is available only with a prescription. You can also have them cauterized or frozen, similar to warts. Once one ruptures, be sure to clean up the contents carefully, as the centers of MC lesions contain the virus itself. However, once one breaks apart, normally it will heal just fine.
