Common Questions and Answers about Aldara other uses

aldara

Avatar n tn A dermatologist freezes the warts, then the person uses a cream called Aldara. They'll go away...but might come back, its a virus. It does calm down with time... depends on the severity. Some research indicates that using Aldara might prevent them from coming back in the same spot. You can see the warts on his penis if you look..... dont freak and make him self conscience. Try to diffuse with humor and/or love.... Penis have little glands on them, they resemble pimples...
Avatar m tn I understand there is a chance my immune system can suppress the virus. I am just starting my prescribed treatment of Aldara. My question is due to the location of the warts( no symptoms on penis or scrotum) is there a high chance of transmitting the virus through 'normal' vaginal intercourse? I am stressed to think this virus will impact my future relationships and be a risk that my future wife will have to overcome.
Avatar m tn I have been prescribed aldara which is a cream that stimulates your immune system to destroy the virus that causes them as oppose to just destroying the tissue itself. It appears to be working. Some ppl react differently to it though. Hope this helps some. Stay positive at least you have each other..
Avatar n tn I am in a similar situation. I used the aldara cream, it got rid of my wart without causing major side effects, but I broke out into a red rash about a week after i stopped using it. the rash started on the area where i was using the aldara and then spread to surrounding areas. it doesn't hurt that much and I don't have any blisters or sores or anything but it does itch a little and feel irritated.
Avatar n tn m under treatment and uses Aldara as prescribed. I usually have protected sex and I thought I was exposed to this STI due to recent obsession on anal rimming. Just wanted to clarify the chance of one getting anal/genital warts through unprotected rimming??? How does the types of viruses that results anal warts get transmitted??? is it only through skin to skin contact or can there be a chance of getting these types transmitted through oral sex practises like sucking and rimming????
Avatar m tn If for example, your are diagnosed with a melanoma skin lesion and the doc says to apply the aldara 1x/day every other day for 3 months. During this time, if your skin reacts violently in that area and perhaps beyond where the original lesion was, then your immune system is in over drive and will successfully clear the cancer in the area of the reaction. If there is no reaction, then there was nothing to attack.
Avatar m tn What? are you applying Aldara on entire genital area? aldara is to be applied on the warts only and not the surrounding area... did a doctor diagnose you for genital warts and prescribed Aldara for you? If not so, please see a dermatologist and first get a correct diagnoses and talk to him about application of this cream... a mild irritation, soreness and itching is part of the healing process with this cream...
Avatar f tn In theory, Aldara might be better at preventing recurrent warts, but in the real world there is no obvious difference in cure rate or recurrence rate between Aldara and any other treatment. If one method isn't working well, trying another makes sense. Aside from podophyllin and Aldara, other options are freezing, repeated laser- or electrocautery, and trichloroacetic acid.
Avatar n tn I've been reading information about Aldara and how it's only 50% effective. I've read from other people's personal statement that Aldara and there was this one instance when a lady reported 10 week into the treatment that aldara only started working when she started scratching or scraping off the genital warts. So is it safe to assume that it's better to puncture the warts then apply aldara, or will that only make it worse?
Avatar n tn I went to the doctor, and they gave me Aldara for HPV. This was in January. Since then, I have had the worst yeast infections, and while one bump is slowly decreasing in size (and has hardened and turned quite red in the process), none of the others are changing size at all, and I am getting more tiny little white bumps within a few inches of the initial three bumps I had. I am pretty sure it is HPV, but it seems to be geting worse. I have been tested recently for HIV, and that was negative...
Avatar m tn no the doc sent me to a general surgeon because he said i had 2 large clusters of warts and at first told me aldara or any other cream would probably not do anything for me as i had a large area of warts. the general surgeon looked at it about 3-4 weeks ago and said i will need surgery so he set the date and everything but i hope i wont need it if aldara continues to work. the doc was going to remove them by cauterization.
Avatar m tn dont use aldara. I think ACV even does better than aldara although some people here would disagree with my opinion. You can get mini surgery like electrocauterization, cryotherapy, or use podofin and its variants. These three, afaik, are better than anything else to treat warts.
Avatar m tn There are lots of other alternatives to Aldara- or even laser surgery, such as cryotherapy, TCA acid, other creams, etc. But stick to medical treatments, not home remedies, home remedies are not effective. Do not use Compound W or other such treatments, they were not designed for use on the genitals.
Avatar m tn I have a few questions about using aldara. 1) is it harmful to shave on off days from using aldara? 2) Can shaving make the warts worse? 3) Is sex okay when the cream is not on the skin? Thank you!
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with hpv, multiple strains, among which a high-risk one, and I had a leep surgery several weeks later. Now my gyn is telling me that, in order to get rid of any other traces of hpv, we should apply Aldara cream on the cervix. I am having serious doubts about this procedure and I would be most grateful if you gave me a specialized advice: is it ok to use it? Can it actually heal hpv? Thank you in advance for your answers!
Avatar f tn This December I had a tiny, flesh colored flat wart on my outerr vaginal lip. My doctor prescribed me a 24 pack of Aldara cream. Afetr about a week of using the cream I called him and aske him if I could stop using the cream or do I need to finish it all. He told me to finish using until all gone. I continued using the cream and around the second week of using i developed a sever rash. They were bumps that were really red and itchy.
Avatar m tn i was told it could be because of Aldara. But the coronal sulcus is red. I have been tested for all other stds and im negative for them. I was told it was balanitis from one doctor but the medication didnt do anything. I was also told to use steroidal cream but told that it was bad to use it from another doctor and one dermatologist said it could be eczema and the other said its because of aldara even though i used that awhile back. Im so confused.
Avatar n tn Do they recommend freezing then aldara over other topically applied options? Did they discuss scarring? My son has resisted having them burned or frozen off because of potential scarring... how did you decide which treatment to choose?
Avatar m tn It only has seemed to make it look worse the next day. Kinda started seeing other little spots now. Would the aldara cream bring out those new spots maybe? I am discontinueing the cream to see what happens. I also think I came into contact to some poison ivy or a similar type of plant that same day because I had a rash on my leg and I did scratch it and I am thinking I may have passed it to my area of concern. The only thing is that the spots near my penis didn't itch.
Avatar n tn I was prescribed aldara for the treatment of genital warts about two weeks ago and have used it as directed by my provider. The patch of lesions is located on the shaft of my penis, are small, relatively flat, and 1-2 cm in size. I started aldara therapy roughly two to three weeks after onset of lesions. My only concern is that the Aldera isn't triggering an immune response like it should. I have no erythema, edema or any other typical "side effects".
Avatar m tn If you are in your 20s or younger and don't have HIV....Aldara will probably cure the virus within a few months (whether it's HPV or molluscum contagiousum) I doubt you have a skin tag on your penis. HPV is very common just use the meds and get rid of it while you still stand a chance. HPV turns into carcinoma (cancer). Yep. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Just use the meds.
Avatar m tn All tests came negative except from chlamydia, gonorrhea and molluscum contagiosum. My doctor give antibiotics(dyxycycline etc) to me and aldara cream for molluscum contagiosum bumps around my genitals. What concerns me is the fact that the previous day of the test I had a last encounter with a csw and we did protected oral and protected vaginal sex.
Avatar m tn It has been working great and I am noticing my warts are starting to shrink. The other morning after using my aldara cream overnight I noticed a lump under my skin where I applied some aldara. It is very tender to touch and very noticeable. I was wondering if this is a normal side effect and what I should do to make this go away and if I should keep using aldara on that area while there is a lump. Thank you.
Avatar m tn 1. My dermatologist told me to apply the aldara liberally to make sure that even the tiniest warts in the area are treated. I have read elsewhere to only apply to the warts, but i have also read that aldara seems to respect healthy skin and only attacks unhealthy skin. Which is true and should i continue applying the aldara liberally to the entire areas. 2. The areas that have crusted and flaked are red and raw. Do i continue putting the aldara on those regions or should i stop?
Avatar n tn I was prescribed Aldara (imiquimod) to get rid of a few perianal HPV warts since cryotherapy was only making it worse. After only about 2 weeks of usage almost all symptoms of the warts were gone however I now have perianal psoriasis in its place. That is one of the side-effects of imiquimod and it mainly strikes people whom are genetically prone to having psoriasis.
Avatar m tn I had sex with my so about a month ago for the first time, we used a condom, but it slipped off for a few thrusts before I realized it came off. I have since gotten tested for several stds, and I ended up getting hpv. The doctor gave me aldara, and I've been using it since Wednesday. I know aldara can cause a burning sensation, but the warts are very small and on the upper part of my shaft, and the sensation is on other parts of my crotch as well, including my urithra.
Avatar n tn After writing my last message I had a visual examination and the dermatologist did not see any other warts, nor did he see evidence of MCV. As a result of my picking at the lesion I had seen, he could not confirm whether it was one or not. Now 4 months wart free and nearing that ever unattainable 6 month mark, I've succumbed to the paranoia and picking at the slightest bumps repeatedly.
