Avatar m tn Hello, This bump after injury to the lip can be due to hypertrophic scar of the lip. Hypertrophic scars are red bump like scars but do not grow beyond the boundaries of the original wound and they often improve in appearance after a few years. Treatment options include silicon gel sheeting, steroid injections, dermabrasion, collagen injections and laser resurfacing. You can discuss these treatment options with your dermatologist.
Avatar m tn 1) The presence of keloid scars or hypertrophic scars developing on the chest are quite high and your GP might be worried for that. Sometimes the scar is hypertrophic, or thickened, but confined to the margin of the wound. Hypertrophic scars are redder while keloids are raised and look shiny and dome-shaped, ranging in color from pink to red. 2) Secondly there is a possibility of pityriasis rosea and the scar that you have on the chest can be the herald patch.
Avatar n tn Burning is highly effective, although it does leave scarring and is typically used as a last resort. Cryotherapy (freezing) typically does not leave scars. Aldara is effective and doesn't typically cause scarring, but seems to be moreso effective in females than males I've read, and TCA acid also doesn't cause scarring if done correctly. There are an array of treatments that do not cause scarring, and if your son hasn't begun treatment yet, I would urge him to do so.
Avatar m tn Hello, This can be due to hypertrophic scar or due to adhesion formations after anal fissure surgery. Avatar m tn Hello, From the symptoms the possibility of keloid forming is high. The other possibility is of a hypertrophic scar. Hypertrophic scars are not dangerous and improve with age but keloid scars can itch or become irritated if they grown in size and show some rubbing with the clothes. I suggest you to consult a dermatologist and take a second opinion to confirm the diagnosis.
Avatar n tn Hello, From your symptoms since bacterial, fungal and skin biopsy tests have come out negative, hypertrophic scar and keloid formation also need to be ruled out. Hypertrophic scars are not dangerous and improve with age but keloid scars can itch or become irritated if they grown in size and show some rubbing with the clothes. I suggest you to consult a dermatologist and take a second opinion to confirm the diagnosis.
Avatar f tn I have several scars from cuts on my arms an legs from self-injury. All of them are 1-1,5 years old. my family wants me to get a scar reduction surgery, but I have doubts. Most of my gaping cuts were stitched, some of them used to be hypertrophic, but now all of them are healthy. Most of them have faded. Of course they are still visible and the texture is different, but I just don't see how they can be improved.
Avatar n tn The other possibility is of a hematoma formation after the surgery. Hypertrophic scars are not dangerous and improve with age but keloid scars can itch or become irritated if they grown in size and show some rubbing with the clothes. Avatar f tn Two types of scars are the result of the body overproducing collagen, which causes the scar to be raised above the surrounding skin. Hypertrophic scars take the form of a red raised lump on the skin, but do not grow beyond the boundaries of the original wound, and they often improve in appearance after a few years. Keloid scars are a more serious form of scarring, because they can carry on growing indefinitely into a large, tumorous (although benign) growth.
Avatar f tn Does this sound like keloid scarring or hypertrophic scarring? I have no family history of keloids and have never had one myself and I have quite a few normal scars. Any advice would be appreciated!
Avatar m tn I have also tried the following prescription creams Salex, Retin-A Micro and Aldara. Aldara worked for a couple of weeks but then it started attacking parts of my skin that I did not have warts. I started getting blisters and fevers. I had to get these blisters treated because they were oozing. I went to urgent care since my other Doctors weren’t available. They prescribed Floucinonide which stopped the burning and the blistering.
Avatar f tn No infection after a cut will persist for a long time like 4 years. Hypertrophic scars are not dangerous and improve with age but keloid scars can itch or become irritated if they grown in size and show some rubbing with the clothes. Avatar n tn Studies also show benefit from using silicone sheeting for preventing and treating hypertrophic scars and keloids, he says (Berman B et al. Dermatol Surg. 2007;33(11):1291-1303). There are a few brands..only 2 in stores. The one I mention previously was the one recommended by my dermatologist and that I have used. I do not work for the company that makes this item, I am just a very happy customer relieved to find a therapy that works and is affordable.
Avatar f tn Hello, What you seem to be having are hypertrophic scars after liquid nitrogen treatment. The various treatment options for such scars are chemical peel, dermabrasion, laser or resurfacing of scars, soft-tissue augmentation, intralesional steroid injection (keloids) and excisional surgery in selected cases. Please discuss these treatment options with your dermatologist.
Avatar f tn Topical or injected steroids do help some scars, but it is difficult to predict how effective they will be for any individual. The development of scar tissue following any surgery is most often genetically determined.
Avatar m tn hi, there was a study done in 2006 where they used low dose enalapril (10mgs) and over a 4 month period, it made 20 year old hypertrophic surgery scars completely disappear and reduced the keloid scars. more recently, a cream containing 5% captopril has been shown to reduce keloid scars. they are not hard to find if you type them into google.
Avatar m tn I went to the doctor and he said it was probably a form of coccus, and told me to use Fucidine 2 times a day for a week. I did so but there were no results. Now I saw the doctor again and he said it was probably a mole, but then said it was probably a virus and prescribed me Aciclovir Zovirax 5 times a day. I'm taking Ciprofloxacin antibiotics since i first went to the doc. I'm starting to panic because no one can tell me for sure what this is.
Avatar f tn Hey Doc, I was diagnosed with Low Risk HPV(Genital Warts back in April, I had them treated with 4 treatments of Trichloric Acid, and just last week my gyno decided to stop the acid treatments and gave me a prescription for Aldara(I still have a couple area's that are not cleared up). During the time that I was getting the Acid Treatments my gyno told me not to have sex. She repeated this before I left at my last visit when she gave me the prescription...
Avatar n tn Around 2 years ago I had an acne cyst on my chin. Pus came out of it, but it took a long time to heal. Since then I have been left with what feels like a small callus on my chin. If I pick the skin off (which I have a tendency to doing unwittingly), the skin underneath is red and a little sore, and within a few days the 'callus' has grown back. It is slightly darker than skin colour, although is red for a few days when it grows back after I have picked it.
Avatar m tn I have had genital warts for over a year. I can trace my aquisition of HPV to an encounter 2 months before my first outbreak. I have had all visible warts frozen off 8-9 times this past year and they keep coming back. I have completed 2 courses of therapy on Aldara and that just seemed to make the warts grow faster. I have used salicylic acid, 4 weeks of duct tape occulsion therapy and have started regularly taking echinacea to boost my immune system.
