Aldara and warts

Common Questions and Answers about Aldara and warts

aldara

Avatar m tn I just started Aldara, two weeks ago and it's going slow for me. Though I only have two warts and one is the first one I ever had, which after 4 acid treatments is still there so it may by scar tissue rather than a live wart at this time. The other is only 2 weeks old and really has not changed at all. So, I can't say how you will react to Aldara, I have read some people have warts gone quickly and some it takes a while. I am just happy not to have any new ones.
Avatar n tn Welcome to the Forum. Aldara tends to work best in warts which have recently appeared and it's activity is, at least in part, correlated with the reaction that it generates. If you have been using Aldara for 4 weeks with no effect and little local reaction, it is time to try something else such as freezing with liquid nitrogen. In answer to your specific questions however: 1. No, the location has little to do with response.
Avatar n tn I was prescribed Aldara (imiquimod) to get rid of a few perianal HPV warts since cryotherapy was only making it worse. After only about 2 weeks of usage almost all symptoms of the warts were gone however I now have perianal psoriasis in its place. That is one of the side-effects of imiquimod and it mainly strikes people whom are genetically prone to having psoriasis.
535760 tn?1213891166 Not wanting to experience this again i would like to try another option because i still have a few tiny warts left and noticed a couple new ones. Is aldara the best way to go? or maybe even cryo? I read aldara is very effective and even builds an immunity?
Avatar m tn and after 2 weeks use i have had good results so far so if i were you i would go see your dermatologist if he recomends surgery set the date for about 1 1/2 months away and get them to prescribe you aldara in the meantime. use aldara and within 4 weeks if the warts have not reduced in size or started to clear then just go in for surgery.
Avatar m tn aldara is to be applied on the warts only and not the surrounding area... did a doctor diagnose you for genital warts and prescribed Aldara for you? If not so, please see a dermatologist and first get a correct diagnoses and talk to him about application of this cream... a mild irritation, soreness and itching is part of the healing process with this cream... you should apply petrolium jelly (vaseline) or some other moisturizer to help your pain relief and...
Avatar n tn Hi. I used Aldara for two weeks and my warts went away. I didn't have to scratch or scrape. I don't think you should puncture them at all. The cream caused some severe skin reactions for me (and it was on my bum :( ) so I stopped using it two weeks in for about a week and then when I went to start applying the cream again the warts were gone.
Avatar m tn Hi I've been using Aldara for 3 applications now for what I believe are genital warts under my foreskin just below the ridge, they are only small. Up to now nothing has happened, no reaction, no itching no reddening of area nothing at all. I was expecting some sort of reaction or change with it being such a strong medicine. Is this normal?
Avatar m tn Hello, I'm a male, 26yrs old. Can anyone describe their experiences with Imiquimod? I am on the 3.75% cream which my doctor has told me to use every other day for a month. In the first 2 weeks, nothing happened, only just a couple days ago I noticed a very slight indication that the medication might be working, but I'm still not sure. I have about 20-30 very small warts, and notice 2 or 3 of them showing a bit of redness and drying up a bit.
Avatar m tn I have been treating anal warts for 8 weeks with aldara and after about 6 weeks i noticed they were slowly shrinking. While the visible warts are indeed shrinking (almost gone entirely), i know that there are internal ones in my anus that are still there, whether or not the aldara is helping them is undetermined.
Avatar f tn However when I was first diagnosed with genital warts I used aldara for them and never experienced outbreaks like I do today. I would experience outbreaks probably once a year and they would go away without treatments and then no more for about a few years. I'm not sure why I am experiencing outbreaks so frequently. Maybe because I get a little stressed at times hpv tends to affect the immune system when it's weak and stress is a factor right.
Avatar n tn I have had genital warts for 5 years now and ive been using aldara for quite some time. aldara seems to work pretty well for the most part. while using aldara frequeantly i would experience some side effects like some pain or swelling after using it for a long period of time. i would stop the use and the redness/ swelling would go away and i would contine use and everything would be okay.
Avatar m tn Just started a treatment of Aldara today. I always seem to have a few small genital warts on me. Does anyone know what I can expect. I am 31 and healthy in every way. I have been receiving cryotherapy for 3 years and they always come back. I was told that Aldara will help get my immune system involved in fighting the virus so I will have a better chance of losing the warts. Has anyone out there used thus treatment ?
Avatar n tn I just found out I had HPV yesterday and had my warts frozen and was given aldara to use in two days time. My question was, when would it be ok to masturbate again, and when would it be ok to have sex again?
Avatar f tn s immune system to eliminate cells that have been infected by the virus. And with this, there is a smaller chance that the warts will come back. But if Aldara does not work with me, I will take your advice and use the method of freezing. Thanks for your help and support!
Avatar n tn m under treatment and uses Aldara as prescribed. I usually have protected sex and I thought I was exposed to this STI due to recent obsession on anal rimming. Just wanted to clarify the chance of one getting anal/genital warts through unprotected rimming??? How does the types of viruses that results anal warts get transmitted??? is it only through skin to skin contact or can there be a chance of getting these types transmitted through oral sex practises like sucking and rimming????
Avatar n tn I have recently been using Aldara cream to try and eliminate my genital warts (HPV). Although the warts minimised in size after three months my doctor told me to stop using aldara because of the ineffectiveness and incredible sores and lesions that i endured whilst treatment. He reccomended me to a dermatologist for the treatment of the HPV.
Avatar f tn i have been diagnosed with warts which appeared suddenly after i went of the pill, i have become paranoid about this and it the doc has given me aldara which i used and was sucessful except on 2 stubborn warts but they have now appeared in other places i have ordered more aldara. I would like to know how internal warts are treated and if i take better care of myself if my body could fight them off on its own??
Avatar f tn I then attributed it to either an infection or something related to the warts infection. So my questions are 1) should I try Aldara or just wait to see if any warts show up and 2) what about HSV testing? Is my doctor accurate that it's not necessary given I have no symptoms or should I just get an HSV test because it can be completely asymptomatic?
Avatar f tn Second, I was so shocked about the warts last year and had asked my new gyn about the possibility of herpes and she said that I probably don't need to get a test since I've never had any symptoms and it would just be worrisome for no reason. Is this accurate given that I've been reading that herpes often does not have symptoms? (and after a study released last week by NYC department of Health the herpes infection rate among women look staggering!
Avatar m tn I have read elsewhere to only apply to the warts, but i have also read that aldara seems to respect healthy skin and only attacks unhealthy skin. Which is true and should i continue applying the aldara liberally to the entire areas. 2. The areas that have crusted and flaked are red and raw. Do i continue putting the aldara on those regions or should i stop? The cream does not bother me and the rawness is by no means unbearable or even that aggravating.
Avatar m tn ve been putting the aldara on about 3 times a week for about a month and a half... and the warts are a little smaller but definitely still there. it just sucks cuz i'll put barely any on but since the skin folds in that area it always gets on healthy skin... so i quit and will probably just get them burned off like in the past even though they are smaller than normal.
Avatar f tn I have genital HPV and I was treating the warts using Aldara. Applied a lot of the cream Monday to the outside of lower labia minora. Wednesday the labia was hard, swollen and really sore. Friday the swelling was reduced and in it place were 2 sore lesions located just inside the labia. I am now convinced it is herpes from looking at pictures online and reading the symptoms. I am also experiencing tingling down there too! I also have a decreased appetite although this could be from worry.
Avatar f tn I recently got a STD check and found that I have HPV type 61. My penis has no signs of warts though the Doctor prescribed a cream that i was told to apply 3 times a day for 8 to 10 weeks. "IFN" cream is the only part in English. Can some please help to tell me about what this cream will do and the possible side effects. And if its even necessary. As well is this type of HPV contagious through kissing? Would I pass to someone else if i kiss someone?
Avatar f tn t work, they kept coming back. Then i went to a womans health clinic and got aldara. I put it on warts on my vagina, but then i experienced burn looking marks all over vagina, and it was black and blue, and on top of that i got Urinary track infection (UTI) it was my worst nightmare! So I took antibiotics for uti, then at the same time the warts diminished, and i healed from all that went wrong. So I'm not really sure what went wrong, maybe i rubbed the aldara wrong on me?
Avatar m tn Some HPV (genital warts do not respond to Aldara or freezing and must be zapped with a CO2 laser or cut out or burned out with the Hyfrecator (sp?) All people with visible genital warts should have them removed ASAP as they can cause cancer in females AND males. Males can get Anal Cancer and females too - Farrah Fawcett has it and it is usually only caused by HPV and unprotected anal sex.
Avatar n tn I was prescribed aldara for the treatment of genital warts about two weeks ago and have used it as directed by my provider. The patch of lesions is located on the shaft of my penis, are small, relatively flat, and 1-2 cm in size. I started aldara therapy roughly two to three weeks after onset of lesions. My only concern is that the Aldera isn't triggering an immune response like it should. I have no erythema, edema or any other typical "side effects".
