365470 tn?1232747095 Squamous cell carcinoma of the skin occurs roughly one-quarter as often as basal cell carcinoma. Light-colored skin and a history of sun exposure are even more important in predisposing to this kind of cancer than to basal cell carcinoma. Men are affected more often than women As with basal cell carcinoma, doctors usually perform a biopsy to make a proper diagnosis. This involves taking a sample by injecting local anesthesia and punching out a small piece of skin using a circular punch blade.
Avatar f tn Hello, Infilterative basal cell carcinoma is the most aggressive of basal cell carcinoma but they are radiosensitive. It can be used for advanced and extended lesions and in patients for whom surgery is not suitable (e. g, because of allergy to anesthetics, current anticoagulant therapy, a tendency to form keloids or facial tumors). For cosmetic results, radiotherapy is better but this depdns on the staging of the malignancy and biopsy cell reports.
Avatar m tn Hello, Aldara cream or Imiquimod is used for treatment of actinic keratosis, warts and topical treatment of biopsy-confirmed, primary superficial basal cell carcinoma (sBCC) in immunocompetent adults. It is still not confirmed whether your mole is a malignancy or a mole. I would suggest you to get an evaluation done from a dermatologist. Confirmation can be done by excisional biopsy with narrow margins.
1094370 tn?1317134825 m 32 and have had my fair share of basal cell and squamous cell carcinoma. I think the cream you are referring to is Imiquimod/Aldara? It is essentially a topical chemo. Generally if it scabs it means it's working. Unfortunately I haven't had great success with it and have had to have the cancer surgically removed. Not sure where you live, but I have fantastic Doctor recommendations in NYC. Let me know if you want more info.
Avatar n tn 32 year old male, Family history of Basal Cell Carcinoma in father and sister. Discovered 4 days ago. Lesion has smooth texture, is non tender, slightly elevated and 8 mm in diameter. Would you wait a few weeks to check for changes or would you see a dermatologist ASAP? Does anyone know what the differential diagnosis would be besides Basal Cell Carcinoma?
Avatar m tn I recently had surgery to remove a Basal Cell Carcinoma. My problem is, I think they over did the surgery if you know what I mean. Could somebody please let me know if they agree with me? Thanks!
Avatar f tn A new skin growth that bleeds easily or does not heal well may suggest basal cell carcinoma. Don’t worry and get the biopsy done from a dermatologist. Hopefully if it is a basal cell carcinoma, it should not have spread much, but exact staging can only be done after biopsy. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor.
Avatar m tn I'm 22 year old female. I was taking spironolactone for cystic acne. Last April I quit it and my birth control so my husband and I could have a baby (my second.) My skin immediately started to get bad again, which I expected. However, my chest would develop weird little bumps that would eventually go away. But I'm a habitual picker, so I'd sometimes pick at them. Some of the bumps left what I assumed were scars, but from googling I'm unable to find scars that appear like mine do.
468015 tn?1218719780 Hello, Squamous cell carcinoma is the second most common cancer of the skin (after basal cell carcinoma but more common than melanoma). It usually occurs in areas exposed to the sun, and can generally be treated by excision only. Sunlight exposure and immunosuppression are risk factors for SCC of the skin. The risk of metastasis( that is its ability to spread to other parts of the body) is larger than with basal cell carcinoma.Therfore it can be invasive. ref:http://en.wikipedia.
Avatar f tn Hello, Fibroepithelioma resembles basal cell carcinoma which is a malignancy and hence treatment is primarily surgical. Recommended treatment options include complete surgical excision or electrodesiccation followed by curettage. Cryosurgery, Mohs micrographic surgery, or radiation therapy may also be used. You can discuss these treatment options with your dermatologist. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn My neighbour is an elderly individual with limited mobility, dementia and a history of basal cell carcinoma. The toe nails were incredibly long with the big toe nail curling over the second toe. Once I had cut the big toe nail down, I noticed a suspicious looking lesion on the top of the toe. He says that he has not noticed it before, it is raised, blueish pinkish in colour, about 4mm x 5mm and about 2mm in depth, it does not have irregular borders.
Avatar n tn Hello, You have not mentioned your age but for such a patch, actinic keratosis and basal cell carcinoma needs to be ruled out. Actinic keratosis appears as rough, red bumps on the scalp, face, ears etc and may invade deeper in the skin to become a fully-developed squamous cell carcinoma. Hence this lesion can be a squamous cell carcinoma. You need to get this examined and biopsied from a dermatologist to confirm the diagnosis.
Avatar n tn My consultant thinks I have a basal cell carcinoma on the side of my nose and I am worried about the treatment. I did not ask questions when I saw him and now I want to know. He said he would probably cut and sew but it may leave me with an upturned nostril which sounds horrible to me! Is there any way I can avoid this? Obviously, I must have it done but I was wondering if I could have a small skin graft instead of stitches. Thank you for your help.
Avatar f tn How long does it take for a cyst or boil to heal? I had what my doctor called a cyst but it's been almost 5 weeks and it has not healed yet. Granted, I did not use the antibiotic cream they gave me because I didn't like the side effects but did use natural antibiotics. It's no longer swollen and only hurts if I put pressure on it. Thank you.
Avatar f tn Hi, 2 1/2 months ago I noticed a small greyish bump on the side of my torso. I has since developed a black dot in the center, and gotten red around the sides. It does not hurt. It sounds like it might be basal cell carcinoma, but i'm not sure. This was probably stupid, but I tried to pop it. It wouldn't pop, and all it did was bleed a little. Does anyone know what this is? Should I get it checked out?
154520 tn?1270164176 Depending on how deep these are and what kind of basal cell they are (there are many kinds). I am doing some research and now looking at radiation therapy vs. mohs. My daughter has an infiltrative/nodular basal cell on her nostril and has been told by several drs. she will need reconstructive surgery which may or may not involve a graft, it may just be a "flap", but either one is invasive and radiation may be an option.

Avatar f tn She said we can try to find individual plans. My question is... I had basal cell carcinoma (benign) on my face removed in 2001. Do I have to report this as a pre-existing condition since it was nine years ago, completely removed, and no recurrence? Everything I've read so far says the insurers can go back as far as five years into your health history. I have also been suffering from migraine headaches for 16 years and am on p.r.n. medication...is this a pre-existing condition?
Avatar f tn d accidentally scratch it, and that would dry over and around the spot. Grew faster than basal cell, and got bigger than my basal cell carcinoma, on the skin's surface, instead of underneath. Remember, itchy, won't heal, grows bigger at skin level (not just under skin). In other words, if you have a "sore" that has been around for a while, it itches, it fails to heal up, and the "pearlized scab" is easily knocked off, I'd get to the doctor.
Avatar f tn I have basal cell carcinoma that is infiltrated and has been on my nose for three-plus years now I am scheduled for Mohs surgery on May 9th and reconstructive plastic surgery on the 10th.
Avatar m tn They could easily just be hyperpigmentation spots, which are harmless. Basal cell carcinoma rarely invades organs apart from the skin, and even so, it would take a long time, so you're not in urgent need of medical attention, regardless. These look awfully light to be basal cell, but again, if you're concerned, you should definitely seek a second opinion.
212161 tn?1599427282 went to dr today she checked all my moles and my head i have a scar that i have had for 57 years, she thinks its Basal cell carcinoma , sent it off to see any one have this for 57 years and it be ok its on my scalp and its not grown a lot in theses years, but she's pretty sure thats what its is , should i be worried
Avatar f tn 5 years ago I had a spot that turned out to be basal cell carcinoma. It was removed and I have a large scar. Now to the right of it I have a tiny red dot under the skin. It just won’t go away. Should I be concerned?
