Avatar m tn after taking alcohol my eyes get itchy and red. can you please tell me, because of taking alcohol my eyes are red. As SGOT is normal to 40 units/litre... i am facing problem in winter... Is this kind of alergy or liver damage. after concern of eye doctor, he just prescribing allergy eye drops.
Avatar f tn That is 1) We admitted we were powerless over alcohol, and that our lives have become unmanageable. So many people get through the detox, at home (which can be dangerous and is often done though a medically supervised detox). It's like it's all or nothing. Those that don't have the opportunity to go to a residential / outpatient Rehab Facility do not instead go to an Addictions Therapist and use them for the therapy that is many times necessary to quit an addictive substance.
Avatar m tn Trying to understand 2.
Avatar f tn she was hosptialized for taking insulin to lose weight and she took too much//she is not a diabetic and took it from a overnight friend of her hubbys who put it in her frig////insulin is measured in units and not Mls and she took 600 units or more by mistake..ended up in the ER/now institutionalized for a while as they think she tried suicide////i do not think so....this disease is almost//or more misunderstood than addiction...i know her well and she has been happy as of late....
Avatar n tn Detoxing off of alcohol cold turkey can be very dangerous if the person has developed a profound dependance on alcohol. There can be very very serious, even life-threatening withdrawl symptoms. If he's at the point where he's puking from withdrawl it may not be safe for him to detox on his own. I would seriously SERIOUSLY consider having him detox in a hospital or rehab center. Not only will they treat his physical state so he can detox safely, they'll help treat his alcoholism.
Avatar f tn I drink between 4 - 12 units of vodka a night and i want to quit but i really want to do it alone (my partner will know) i have drank like this for around 7 years - surely when i only have 4 for about a week after that i can just quit?
317822 tn?1223241475 Detox gets you off the drugs safely, and a little of what rehab does. Rehab deals with learning about your addiction and how to live life without drugs. Once you are done with detox, they will help set you up on some continuing aftercare activities. Like an inpatient rehab, or outpatient rehab, a psychiatrist to follow your meds etc. that kind stuff. Hope this helps?

Avatar m tn 10 days of at least 5 bottles of wine a day (not always wine but equivalent units in gin, beer etc). Stopped midday Friday. Severe shakes set in two hours later which are now starting to come down, sweats all night, bad sore throat, hallucinations when in bed. Sleep is the worst part got none on the first night and maybe 5 last night. Can anyone tell me when they think I will be in the clear?
Avatar f tn m 33 and have had a problem with alcohol for approx 10 years. The main cause is anxiety which I have tried and tried different meds and counciling, all to no avail. I'm not alcohol dependant but when my anxiety gets too bad I end up drinking over a binge of 3 - 4 days. I am about 48 hours after one of these binges. It started Tuesday evening and ended fri around lunchtime I was just so ill I couldn't drink anymore. I think I'd drank 65 units in that time - all vodka.
Avatar m tn I know lithium intensifies with alcohol but know after not drinking for two weeks my hands are still shaking. Is it the combination of lithium and alcohol and the alcohol that is causing this? I plan to stop drinking and feel I have no problem doing that but how do I stop my hands from shaking?
Avatar f tn Well I leave Thursdays to do an inpatient detox and rehab. After several surgeries I became dependent on oxycodone 15mg 5xday. When I first realized I was addicted I tried to ct and ended up passing out due to my Bp dropping. Then I decided to taper but my dr stopped that as well because they said I needed to have a 3rd back surgery even tho my last one was in April. I'm not walking correctly, kinda hunched over.
594255 tn?1219163564 Hi, Was sober almost three years until last Feb. 3, 2008. All kinds of bad things went wrong on Feb. 2, 2008. I bought a half-gallon of rum, and started again. I did stop drinking again after a few weeks for about a month. I went back to meetings. Been unemployed three and a half years, and was turned down for a very good job. Guess what? I've been drinking since! I have no way to pay for rehab, so I have to go it alone.
Avatar f tn I keep seeing reports that one or two units of alcohol a day seem to be better than having none at all. Alcohol obviously carries health issues too, but being sensible with volumes is the key, as indicated by Flycaster.
Avatar f tn Alcohol and ANY medications is bad. Alcohol puts stress on all your organs and primarily your liver and kidneys...most medications are cleared through either your liver or your kidneys. Bad mix. You probably need to go to a Detox facility where you can be monitored and given the appropriate meds to help you get off the alcohol.
Avatar m tn I do not believe that taking him to a rehab facility would mean he would get in trouble at all. I am currently in an outpatient rehab, and I have told them some terrible things that I did to get my DOC (drug of choice), but they did not tell on me to anyone. I don't think any rehabs do that. It is my understanding that outpatient rehabs are more affordable than inpatient rehabs. I have just recently been told about and am researching rehab scholarships.
Avatar f tn Help..I'm on day 2 from going cold turkey from heavy alcohol abuse. How long will the anxiosness n sweats last?
Avatar m tn Ferritin levels are not normally linked to alcohol intake so I am not sure why you mention drinking alcohol unless your have already been diagnosed with alcohol related liver disease. Since your ferritin level is above normal, your doctor will need to evaluate the results and perform other tests to determine exactly what is going on. While it can cause anxiety knowing something is not as it should be...
Avatar n tn My 18 yr old granddaughter has been arrested for calling her boyfriend who had a restraining order against her. She also has pending, stealing cigarettes, verbal abuse to a nurse, breaking a car window in an argument with someone & we did not post bail & would like to get power of attorney & see if we can have her put in a rehab. She has been on a downward spiral for at least 4 years. We know she drinks & are pretty sure that she takes various drugs. What can we do?
Avatar m tn is there an online doctor that can give u the rx...i know the protocol to get through this but i know my physician will want to send me to rehab...i cant do rehab right now....
Avatar f tn t know what you mean you don’t “abuse alcohol like that” you don’t have to be an alcoholic living on the street to have liver damage from alcohol. Some people have trouble with alcohol liver damage with less alcohol then others especially when combined with other health problems. American Dietary Guidelines recommend limiting your alcohol intake to one drink per day for women and two drinks per day for men.
Avatar m tn You don't have to feel 'buzzed' or even your judgment impaired to be over the limit, technically. 3 1/2 beers are probably about 3 'units' of alcohol, (depending of course on the strength of the beer, as some are stronger than others) -which does sound just a bit over the driving limit to me.... That would go over on the breath test.
