8323481 tn?1405705654 I needed to be safe away from any kind of narcotic and alcohol. I went to Toronto, and found help abounding. I needed to get the toxins and go through the withdrawals in a safe place. I couldn't do it at home alone, having to go to work, feeling so sick. I was cared for wonderfully. I have a strong aftercare program set up with an addictions specialist doctor at a Toronto hospital, as well as an outpatient program at another hospital.
Avatar m tn I am seeking help for my father, who has been addicted to alcohol and drugs like 1 year now. After my mom passed away, he is all alone and put himself in to this risk. I have tried to talk to him but he denies and keep on ignoring whatever we asked him to do. I have contacted a counselling center in Toronto, Bellwood Health Services ( http://www.bellwood.ca/drug-addiction/ ) but I don’t know how to convince my father for the recovery program.
Avatar f tn That is 1) We admitted we were powerless over alcohol, and that our lives have become unmanageable. So many people get through the detox, at home (which can be dangerous and is often done though a medically supervised detox). It's like it's all or nothing. Those that don't have the opportunity to go to a residential / outpatient Rehab Facility do not instead go to an Addictions Therapist and use them for the therapy that is many times necessary to quit an addictive substance.
Avatar n tn Detoxing off of alcohol cold turkey can be very dangerous if the person has developed a profound dependance on alcohol. There can be very very serious, even life-threatening withdrawl symptoms. If he's at the point where he's puking from withdrawl it may not be safe for him to detox on his own. I would seriously SERIOUSLY consider having him detox in a hospital or rehab center. Not only will they treat his physical state so he can detox safely, they'll help treat his alcoholism.
Avatar m tn She got it done from Seager Medical Group at Toronto, Ontario. Where did you get it done from? And did you consult your doctor again?
317822 tn?1223241475 Detox gets you off the drugs safely, and a little of what rehab does. Rehab deals with learning about your addiction and how to live life without drugs. Once you are done with detox, they will help set you up on some continuing aftercare activities. Like an inpatient rehab, or outpatient rehab, a psychiatrist to follow your meds etc. that kind stuff. Hope this helps?
Avatar m tn Am I able to quit it by myself? Or Do I to join in any rehab centers for it? My mom is advising me to join in Edgewood, an addiction treatment center in Toronto. Since it is expensive, I’m confused, but I wonder whether I could handle the withdrawal symptoms. Any advice would be appreciable.

Avatar m tn you are in toronto, right? im not sure about the rehab centres around there, but as you know in canada, they are almost all free. i live 5 minutes from one of the largest rehabs in ontario and have lots of info about this place. i think inpatient treatment is the best for you as crack is a bugger to beat, but with this help i know you can do it. i can tell you want this now and im happy to hear that you know you will need help to do this. best of luck to you.
Avatar f tn How many mommies from toronto or GTA??? Maybe we can share stores and other babies info.
Avatar f tn I have spent the last month trying to get into the medical detox program at the center for addiction and mental Heath in Toronto. I'm feeling so frustrated that they are not consistent in returning my phone calls or giving me an admission date. I so badly want to get in and get my life back on track! The waiting is killing me! The longer I wait, the more I use. I could really use some support around hanging on and not giving up on the prospect of going into treatment.
Avatar m tn I know lithium intensifies with alcohol but know after not drinking for two weeks my hands are still shaking. Is it the combination of lithium and alcohol and the alcohol that is causing this? I plan to stop drinking and feel I have no problem doing that but how do I stop my hands from shaking?
Avatar f tn Well I leave Thursdays to do an inpatient detox and rehab. After several surgeries I became dependent on oxycodone 15mg 5xday. When I first realized I was addicted I tried to ct and ended up passing out due to my Bp dropping. Then I decided to taper but my dr stopped that as well because they said I needed to have a 3rd back surgery even tho my last one was in April. I'm not walking correctly, kinda hunched over.
594255 tn?1219163564 Hi, Was sober almost three years until last Feb. 3, 2008. All kinds of bad things went wrong on Feb. 2, 2008. I bought a half-gallon of rum, and started again. I did stop drinking again after a few weeks for about a month. I went back to meetings. Been unemployed three and a half years, and was turned down for a very good job. Guess what? I've been drinking since! I have no way to pay for rehab, so I have to go it alone.
Avatar f tn Alcohol and ANY medications is bad. Alcohol puts stress on all your organs and primarily your liver and kidneys...most medications are cleared through either your liver or your kidneys. Bad mix. You probably need to go to a Detox facility where you can be monitored and given the appropriate meds to help you get off the alcohol.
Avatar m tn I do not believe that taking him to a rehab facility would mean he would get in trouble at all. I am currently in an outpatient rehab, and I have told them some terrible things that I did to get my DOC (drug of choice), but they did not tell on me to anyone. I don't think any rehabs do that. It is my understanding that outpatient rehabs are more affordable than inpatient rehabs. I have just recently been told about and am researching rehab scholarships.
Avatar f tn Help..I'm on day 2 from going cold turkey from heavy alcohol abuse. How long will the anxiosness n sweats last?
Avatar m tn hey johnny, are you still considering inpatient rehab? we never heard back from you after that post of yours. i guess we learn from our mistakes and i can tell you really want this. let me know if you want the info about this rehab as it is not far from you. p.s. i heard you guys got rocked with the snow and it's coming down hard now here too, as i am only an hour away from you.
Avatar n tn My 18 yr old granddaughter has been arrested for calling her boyfriend who had a restraining order against her. She also has pending, stealing cigarettes, verbal abuse to a nurse, breaking a car window in an argument with someone & we did not post bail & would like to get power of attorney & see if we can have her put in a rehab. She has been on a downward spiral for at least 4 years. We know she drinks & are pretty sure that she takes various drugs. What can we do?
Avatar m tn is there an online doctor that can give u the rx...i know the protocol to get through this but i know my physician will want to send me to rehab...i cant do rehab right now....
Avatar n tn My husband has been addicted to various drugs and alcohol for over 10 years. His current problem is opiates, xanax, and alcohol. But he'll basically take whatever he can get a hold of. He's tried quitting on his own a bazillion times, only to fail within a few days. We even moved out of state to where he didn't know anyone to buy from, but he just replaced drugs with loads of alcohol. This has caused lots of strain on our relationship and I initiated a seperation last week.
Avatar f tn I didn't know about Gerard Butler... So it helped him then?? Do you know the guitarist on Celebrity Rehab that died?? Ive been trying to think of his name. I think he was with Alice in Chains?? Mike Star or something?? That was so sad! He was so young and had a sweet spirit. I stopped watching the show after that! AMBER PORTWOOD: Prescription pills LAMAR ODOM: a little bit of everything KIRSTIE ALLEY: She said rehab saved her life.
Avatar f tn Just got out of rehab I have 28 days clean of of Xanax stayed in the rehab for 21 days , the dr sent me home on inderal , nuroten , and visteral
Avatar n tn I did not really like alcohol in my teens and twenties. During my thirties I discovered wine coolers and progressed to wine, but never more than three glasses, certainly not on a daily basis. Then followed divorce, nursing school, and I drank wine as a reward after studies over. I think I really escalated after graduation when I got my first job and could afford more and also when my children were gone to college. I am now remarried to a great guy who does not drink at all.
Avatar f tn I would try to go the detox/rehab route because of the combination of the drugs and alcohol. A focused intervention with a drug counselor could be set up with a trip to detox immediately. Look in your phone book for drug/alcohol assistance. It is usually in the front pages in a special services section. She is in heavy denial and needs to be approached with a worked out strategic plan. Good Luck. Ask for lots of help.
Avatar m tn I tried to get into a rehab but was turned away. I detoxed with the help of friends, enrolled in an IOP and went to mtgs. I still go to mtgs and stay active in AA. I have a sponsor and I sponsor others. For me it's not so much about where I go it's about what I do with the stuff I learn from being where I'm at.
