Common Questions and Answers about Alcohol rehab help

rehab

Avatar n tn Detoxing off of alcohol cold turkey can be very dangerous if the person has developed a profound dependance on alcohol. There can be very very serious, even life-threatening withdrawl symptoms. If he's at the point where he's puking from withdrawl it may not be safe for him to detox on his own. I would seriously SERIOUSLY consider having him detox in a hospital or rehab center. Not only will they treat his physical state so he can detox safely, they'll help treat his alcoholism.
Avatar f tn The pain in the right side is from gall bladder inflammation. The pain on the left is pancreatic inflammation. These are serious warning signs of advanced alcoholic damage. If you don't stop drinking completely you will end up dead.

Avatar n tn my 51 year old son is currently on a 100 per day mg menthodone program and has relapsed on alcohol - he is sober now and is planning to detox at the menthodone clinic and get in a 9 month rehab facility - they (the rehab ) do not use any drugs for detox and my son says he cannot stand nothing from 100 mg - do you think this will work?
317822 tn?1223241475 Detox gets you off the drugs safely, and a little of what rehab does. Rehab deals with learning about your addiction and how to live life without drugs. Once you are done with detox, they will help set you up on some continuing aftercare activities. Like an inpatient rehab, or outpatient rehab, a psychiatrist to follow your meds etc. that kind stuff. Hope this helps?
Avatar n tn I realize I need help. I also am of the firm conviction that AA or conventional rehab would not be useful. What other options are there?
594255 tn?1219163564 Hi, Was sober almost three years until last Feb. 3, 2008. All kinds of bad things went wrong on Feb. 2, 2008. I bought a half-gallon of rum, and started again. I did stop drinking again after a few weeks for about a month. I went back to meetings. Been unemployed three and a half years, and was turned down for a very good job. Guess what? I've been drinking since! I have no way to pay for rehab, so I have to go it alone.
Avatar f tn Alcohol and ANY medications is bad. Alcohol puts stress on all your organs and primarily your liver and kidneys...most medications are cleared through either your liver or your kidneys. Bad mix. You probably need to go to a Detox facility where you can be monitored and given the appropriate meds to help you get off the alcohol.
Avatar m tn I do not believe that taking him to a rehab facility would mean he would get in trouble at all. I am currently in an outpatient rehab, and I have told them some terrible things that I did to get my DOC (drug of choice), but they did not tell on me to anyone. I don't think any rehabs do that. It is my understanding that outpatient rehabs are more affordable than inpatient rehabs. I have just recently been told about and am researching rehab scholarships.
Avatar f tn Help..I'm on day 2 from going cold turkey from heavy alcohol abuse. How long will the anxiosness n sweats last?
Avatar m tn I know lithium intensifies with alcohol but know after not drinking for two weeks my hands are still shaking. Is it the combination of lithium and alcohol and the alcohol that is causing this? I plan to stop drinking and feel I have no problem doing that but how do I stop my hands from shaking?
Avatar f tn I have a brother who is 28 years old who is addicted to alcohol and I believe meth and marajuana. He has been doing this since he was a teenager. We were not raised in drugs and alcohol. He doesn't think he has a problem. Then he says it's too late for him. My parents are just now coming to realize that he does have problem. He is now getting in trouble with the law. I have begged him to get help, my mother and father have begged him, but he refuses.
Avatar f tn I would try to go the detox/rehab route because of the combination of the drugs and alcohol. A focused intervention with a drug counselor could be set up with a trip to detox immediately. Look in your phone book for drug/alcohol assistance. It is usually in the front pages in a special services section. She is in heavy denial and needs to be approached with a worked out strategic plan. Good Luck. Ask for lots of help.
Avatar f tn These combo of drugs is bad bad bad. I hope he goes to see a dr and also gets the help he needs with rehab etc, there is help out there. As far as the crystal meth goes, that is one of the most addictive drugs and many don't come back from it. I am glad you want to help him, but he has to want to help himself, first and foremost. Keep us updated and I wish you both the best. Please take care of yourself. Have you ever heard of alanon?
Avatar n tn t just serve time and get released without the help she needs. Still drugs and alcohol doesn’t excuse any crime committed so sentencing may still be necessary. Good luck to you and I hope the best for your granddaughter. Do the best you can to let her know that your there for her through all of this. She may really need the support.
Avatar m tn Hello Mustang. Call your doctor who first detoxed you. You didn't mention if you're alcoholic, but alcoholism is a disease, not a social problem. Relapse is common with the disease and I'm sure your doctor will understand. Don't worry, they just want to help us. It's what they got in the business for. As far as my story goes; l stay sober by going to AA. I surround myself in the atmosphere of recovery with other alcoholics. I could never do it alone.
Avatar n tn when i called them last year, when i started my search to become clean, they told me just show up, with your bag,(shampoo, deodarant, lotion, pjs) and they wont turn you away. they will help him at least to detox off the drugs/alcohol. they will keep him about 3 -5 days, but he will need more treatment than that, that will only be the beginning, he must follow up with aftercare. But also as someone else mentioned above, if he does not want to get clean, there wont be too much, you can do.
Avatar f tn m 5 years clean from alcohol now. It was hard in the begging but I had help from my Dr. My doctor prescribed me Librium (Chlordiazepoxide) and a drug called campral. The camoral helps to take away the cravings for alcohol and it worked for me, but everyone is different and what worked for me may not work for everyone.
Avatar f tn Well I leave Thursdays to do an inpatient detox and rehab. After several surgeries I became dependent on oxycodone 15mg 5xday. When I first realized I was addicted I tried to ct and ended up passing out due to my Bp dropping. Then I decided to taper but my dr stopped that as well because they said I needed to have a 3rd back surgery even tho my last one was in April. I'm not walking correctly, kinda hunched over.
324184 tn?1308076203 re a functioning addict, then outpatient rehab may be for you. I did outpatient rehab, and I went from 9-3 for 3 weeks, and then nights. I do know that they worked with people. Maybe a week long detox and afternoon rehab sessions? The key is to call around..tell them what you need and ask them to work with you. You really do need a medically involved detox with alcohol. Can you give a little more on your history...are you a binge user? Every day?
Avatar m tn I tried to get into a rehab but was turned away. I detoxed with the help of friends, enrolled in an IOP and went to mtgs. I still go to mtgs and stay active in AA. I have a sponsor and I sponsor others. For me it's not so much about where I go it's about what I do with the stuff I learn from being where I'm at.
Avatar n tn I did not really like alcohol in my teens and twenties. During my thirties I discovered wine coolers and progressed to wine, but never more than three glasses, certainly not on a daily basis. Then followed divorce, nursing school, and I drank wine as a reward after studies over. I think I really escalated after graduation when I got my first job and could afford more and also when my children were gone to college. I am now remarried to a great guy who does not drink at all.
Avatar m tn 3 years 1.
Avatar f tn I didn't know about Gerard Butler... So it helped him then?? Do you know the guitarist on Celebrity Rehab that died?? Ive been trying to think of his name. I think he was with Alice in Chains?? Mike Star or something?? That was so sad! He was so young and had a sweet spirit. I stopped watching the show after that! AMBER PORTWOOD: Prescription pills LAMAR ODOM: a little bit of everything KIRSTIE ALLEY: She said rehab saved her life.
Avatar f tn You have to be ready and willing to put in the work or else no rehab in the world is gonna be able to help you. Im all for it and yes they do work if your willing and ready to open your mind and heart to sobriety. You have to be ready. Are you ready?
388204 tn?1236403834 t know if outpatient will help him. It seems like he always no matter what else has acess to alcohol and girls. One thing you need to know is he is a great talker so you never know what to believe, and also he doesn't look like someone in need of help.He lies to me about things he knows I will hear different. Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn t seem to want to get out and enjoy life. Any help would be much appreciated. Her rehab is only for 8 weeks and we feel it isnt enough as she has been battling this for over 6 years. Help!!!
Avatar f tn I have been trying to kill or drown my past with drugs and and a gallon of liquor a week for years now .....been to rehab but between then pain and memory's I have found no peace or rest what do I do ......
Avatar m tn that is alot of alcohol. Was he drinking at all before that? Alcohol withdrawl can be fatal and needs to be done at a rehab center or hospital. You can call a center and I'm sure they would answer your questions. Hopefully someone else will come on and be able to help.
