alcohol

Avatar n tn Erythritol is a natural sweetener, found in fruit such as grapes, melons, and pears. It is a sugar alcohol like sorbitol (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sorbitol) and some other sugar substitutes, but the molecule is smaller. The big attraction of erythritol is that it is excreted in urine, rather than being used for energy, so it contributes only 5% of the calories that the same amount of table sugar would supply. Question: Does your urine smell unusual?
Avatar m tn I wouldn't go as far as previous poster that all will be fine once he is 'dried out' but it will give the doctors a better view on what is caused by the drinking and the underlying symptons. If that is not an option, make sure he gets enough Thiamine (Vitamine B1). Alcohol makes it hard for any B vitamines to get absorbed into the system and Thiamine is essential for nerves. These are pills you can get everywhere.

Avatar n tn If someone has a blood alcohol level of 4.5%, does this mean that they are intoxicated?
Avatar n tn prichard16 - yes, the types of calories makes a difference. While I agree with caregiver222, that 1000 calories is 1000 calories; if you make that 1000 calories a mix of fruits, veggies, dairy, lean meats, nuts, etc --- you will be much healthier and more likely to lose weight than if you get that 1000 calories from 5 candy bars (200 calories/each) throughout the day........... there's a huge difference........
Avatar n tn So let me ask this....if a man consumes drugs and alcohol would the ingredients of the drugs and alcohol be present in the womans urine analysis after she consumes his sperm?
362249 tn?1441315018 Alcohol can trick you. It has calories so must be taken into account in your daily caloric counts but it does dehydrate you. Providing you don't drink alcohol the next day you will rehydrate and be back where you should be providing you didn't immensely go over your calorie intake. I just count it as it is since I weigh in daily.
1555116 tn?1294483683 If weight loss comes about by burning more than you eat, how can this be possible, especially on such a healthy diet and exercise plan, and particularly without all those alcohol calories? Any help anyone could give would be very much appreciated.
Avatar f tn t even look at carbs the same way anymore! You can even pass up potato chips. I read an article about alcohol in a diet. It faulted alcohol for being even easier to burn than carbs, so your body stores all your food and burns the alcohol instead, hence the "beer belly". Alcohol, as well as other high carb foods also make you crave more alcohol and high carb foods- a terrible cycle to fall into either way.

Avatar f tn Hi Libby, As Barb said, if you always consume the same number of calories, your body adapts to that amount. Especially if your calories are lower than what is required to maintain your weight, the body goes into "starvation" mode and slows your metabolism to cling to every pound.
397560 tn?1220022177 My question is where can I find a book or something that tells me how many calories do I need a day and hpw many calories i take in every time I eat something? Thank you for your replies.
Avatar m tn What are triglycerides? Triglycerides are a type of fat found in your blood. When you eat, your body converts any calories it doesn't need to use right away into triglycerides. The triglycerides are stored in your fat cells. Later, hormones release triglycerides for energy between meals. If you regularly eat more calories than you burn, you may have high triglycerides (hypertriglyceridemia). What's the difference between triglycerides and cholesterol?
Avatar f tn t use alcohol, drugs, or even much soda pop as those are worthless calories.
Avatar m tn A body in starvation mode is desperate to retain as many calories as possible and when extra calories are consumed, the body tries to hold on to all of it. Do you mind if I ask why you take prednisone when you are sick? It suppresses the immune system, which is bad for both viral and bacterial imfections. Steroids are known to trigger weight gain. This is an obscure thought, but it is possible you are sleep eating?

Avatar f tn Hi, the cholesterol and LDL values are raised. I can give the following suggestions.Reduce the total fat content of your diet to <30% of calories. Of which of saturated fat<10% of calories, polyunsaturated fat <10% of calories and mono unsaturated fat <10% of calories. Increased dietary intake of fiber rich foods like oat bran will help. Diet should be rich in antioxidant vitamins found primarily in fruits and vegetables. Reduce energy intake to achieve ideal body weight.
