20850242 tn?1536178425 Look, your drug regimen is probably allowing you to have a life. But it's also got to be faced that it isn't sustainable for you. If what you're taking is causing constant diarrhea, you're not absorbing the nutrients from the little food you're allowing yourself to eat.
Avatar n tn Sorry to disagree with you, but alcohol is not a food group; nor can many people maintain a 2000 calorie diet and lose weight. If I ate 2000 calories/day, I'd be too big to get into my house!! I do agree that fat, protein and carbs are all important to a healthy diet; most foods will fit into one of those categories. Those categories can be broken down even further into the following: grains, vegetables, fruits, dairy, meat/beans, nuts, seeds and legumes.
Avatar m tn You need to eat more calories than the amount that you burn. Every calorie that you eat above that what you burn will eventually be converted into fat and stored in your body. (regardless if these calories come from protein, fat, carbohydrates or alcohol) 1 kilogram of fat is about 10.000 kCalories so if you daily eat 500kCals more than you burn you will gain a kilo every 3 weeks. remarks: -you will not gain much energy with a few extra kilo's of fat unless you are currently underweight.
649848 tn?1534633700 A light beer (approximately 100 calories) or a glass of reduced-calorie wine (about 90 to 100 calories) are other lower-calorie options. But if you want to know why some alcoholic beverages contain more calories than others, read on. Pure alcohol contains 7 calories per gram -- that's less than a gram of fat, which has 9 calories, but more than protein and carbs, which have 4 calories per gram each -- but other variables of your drink influence the calorie count.
Avatar f tn The best way to lose weight and keep it off is to create a low-calorie eating plan that you can stick to for a long time. Rapid Weight Loss Diets 1. Do a juice cleanse. 2. Consider the Master Cleanse - The master cleanse is a liquid-only diet that consists of a “lemonade” (lemon, cayenne pepper powder, maple syrup, and water), a salt-water drink, and herbal laxatives. 3. Try the water diet. 4. Try the fasting diet. 5.
Avatar f tn Here is the answer to this question. In order to lose weight, you have to subtract calories. Safe weight loss is 1-2 lbs/week, so in order to lose 1 lb/week, you'd have to drop 500 calories from your BMR each day (1 lb is equal to 3500 calories, so 500 calories X 7 days = 3500 calories or 1 lb). OR you can drop 250 calories from your diet and increase exercise to use an additional 250 calories. Changing up calorie counts and exercises will help prevent plateau.
Avatar n tn You also have to include calories/serving of the things you drink or add to your food, such as sugar, honey, butter, etc.
397560 tn?1220022177 Reading other posts you guys suggest to keep track of the food intake. My question is where can I find a book or something that tells me how many calories do I need a day and hpw many calories i take in every time I eat something? Thank you for your replies.
1661682 tn?1313135396 It might be easier to list what you should avoid while pregnant. :) You don't want to eat Raw Meat, Fish high in Mercury---stuff like shark, swordfish, etc---raw eggs, soft cheeses like Brie, Gorgonzola, etc, Alcohol, unwashed fruits and vegetables and of course you want to limit amounts of caffeine to under 300mg a day. Any lunch meats you eat should also be heated up to reduce any risk of Listeria, but I know many who don't bother to do this.
Avatar f tn You can use that information to help you find those values and then return to the setup page and lower the calories so it will show you where you want to be to lose weight. For example .. if I default and it should 1,900 calories to maintain .. I may want to return to the setup page and check the manual calculation of 1,400 calories, which should allow me to lose approximately 1 lb per week.
Avatar f tn Other than that, just keep working out and try keeping a food journal to keep track of your calories. Calorie counting is a very effective way of losing weight (it's what I do!) so if you stick to around 1200-1500 a day, that paired with exercise will get that scale moving I'm sure of it!
Avatar f tn It faulted alcohol for being even easier to burn than carbs, so your body stores all your food and burns the alcohol instead, hence the "beer belly". Alcohol, as well as other high carb foods also make you crave more alcohol and high carb foods- a terrible cycle to fall into either way. Back to the point that our bodies are lazy and want to burn the easiest form of energy possible. SO... if you can stick to it for 3-7 days, you will feel a noticeable change in your body.
649848 tn?1534633700 RPS, you have been posting this stuff all over this site and everyone keeps correcting you. Perhaps you might reconsider. There is no research that has stood the test of time to support your theory, although as I've said to you often, you can do whatever pleases you, that's fine. If you have a special condition and this works for you in the short term while you try to fix that condition, I get it. But long term, you can't live that way and expect to live a long healthy life.
1555116 tn?1294483683 I also advise you to get rid of the drinking alcohol habit for good--it contains empty calories--if anything, drink ONE glass of red wine per night.
Avatar f tn Go ahead and enjoy the night out. Check with your doc to see if he thinks adding alcohol is alright (be sure to remind him of the medications he has prescribed for you). Personally, I stopped drinking when I realized MS caused plenty enough off-balance walking, slowed cognition, thick speech, blurry vision, and unreliable reaction times. MS also limits my activity so much that even small portions of nutritious calories pack on extra pounds.
Avatar f tn s always advisable to discuss any new diet with your doctor. You say, how many calories am I supposed to eat in a day? I live in Canada. So I use the Canada food guide to plan most of my meals. That's why it's a good idea to consult your doctor. You say, the calorie bar says I should only eat 494 calories a day. Is that right ? No, it's not. That would be under 500 calories a day which in my opinion is like a starvation diet . I saw that you are 23 years old.
Avatar f tn t use alcohol, drugs, or even much soda pop as those are worthless calories.
Avatar m tn Alcohol does have carbohydrates in it, but different types of beverages have different amounts of carbs. It has a lot to do with what is used to make the alcohol and how it is made. (ie: many beers are made from wheat, barley, corn, or rice...typically high in carbohydrates. Wine is often made from grapes or other fruits that are then fermented to produce alcohol) In short- alcohol does have carbohydrates, but the amount of carbs varies a good bit between various types of drinks.
Avatar f tn I feel like a complete idiot, but cannot figure out how to add my food/calories. I can only get to the main page where it lists calories available, calories consumed, and exercise. Have tried everything I can think of but can't seem to figure it out. Help! Please!
Avatar n tn i asked the same question, although I don't know what exactly my disease is, except my doctor told me my liver doesn't look good, and told me to avoid alcohol, sent me on check up for hepatities AB and C - which I don't have, came back negative. I don't drink, didn't ever, so she told me that meds could cause this, but I don't use them either, so anything I can think of are bad food and sweetners.
620923 tn?1452915648 Every gram of protein and carbs are equal to 4 calories, but every gram of fat is equal to 9 calories, which shows why we should chose our fats wisely. Secondly, protein should be 12-20% of your daily caloric intake, carbohydrates should be 65%, and fat 20-25% (less than 10% saturated fat).
748902 tn?1286034758 It takes me 1,300 to 1,400 calories with minimal exercise. You can add some calories back for the exercise .. need to be sure you keep your strength up and don't go into starvation mode or lose too fast. YOU are doing Amazingly well!!!! The proof is in your Pics, your health, your trackers, your food diary AND the fact YOU CLIMBED A MOUNTAIN!!! Does everyone know she and Steve climbed a MOUNTAIN!!!! **GOLD STARS** for you and Steve! ...
Avatar f tn For your height you normally need to eat 1800 calories daily. Now that you are pregnant you need to increase your daily intake by 300 calories, total of 2100+ a day. Add an additional 200 calories if you are breast feeding after the baby is born, total 2300 calories daily. This will keep you healthy and baby will grow for both pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Avatar f tn I weigh 100 pounds and sometimes act with eating disordered behaviors, such as vomiting after I eat mostly because I felt sick. Starving myself is another thing I often do because I don't feel hungry. I occasionaly use laxatives because I feel I have ate too much and will need help getting it out. The problem is I often don't feel well when I eat. On my most fat days consume about 3,000 calories. On some days I consume as little as only 200 calories.
Avatar f tn Hi. Your profile states that you have stage 4, cirrhosis, (not sure if you are compensated or not) it is not recommended that cirrhotics ingest any alcohol. If you had less liver disease, as most persons of this forum, it would not be an issue. How much alcohol gets burned off when cooking is debatable (see below) but is it really worth the risk to damage your liver even further?
1332403 tn?1278859824 I read somewhere that to lose a pound a week you have to eat 500 calories less than you need per day. Just remember to pay attention to the fat intake its way more important that the calories in my opinion.
Avatar f tn as i am just setting up my profile does anyone know how to enter your calories
2188958 tn?1346444891 At this stage you only need 200 more calories than you'd normally eat, you don't need to be eating any more than you usually do, and it's very normal. I got food aversions for EVERYTHING in the beginning, thank god it went away, but you'll be able to eat soon enough, make sure you're eating high protein snacks and you'll be fine!
