1397290 tn?1357777871 , would eating more than 2200 calories each day mean I would gain more weight faster? I get confused by people who say they eat 2800-3000 and still don't gain. Will my metabolism speed up if i quit restricting?
Avatar f tn I'm not sure to whom you are addressing your question. I haven't done a lot of research on the subject, but since hypothyroidism does affect metabolism, I'd guess that alcohol metabolism would be altered, just as food metabolism is altered.
Avatar f tn I plan on adding very small amount of calories each week...lets say 5-10 grams of carbs of 1-2 grams of fat and see how it works. my questions are: 1. what do you think about my plan? 2. is it possible that I will be able to maintain my weight while adding calories each week? (i'm doing high intensity intervals 3 times a week and 3 lifting workouts)? 3. do you think that 1200 calories per daycan possibly be enough for a girl my size?

Avatar m tn take the stairs, stand instead of sitting, do small exercises / stretches etc. here and there, take breaks to stand up and exercise a bit if you're sitting for long... not entirely what you asked about, but just throwing it out there, not something to overlook!
Avatar n tn I just read that your metabolism adjusts to burn whatever calorie intake you are at? For instance, it said that if a person starts to eat 2500 calories a day their metabolism will adjust and they will burn that amount but if they suddenly lower to 1500 or even 2000, their metabolism will adjust and they will still only burn that amount. Is this true?
Avatar m tn By eating less, your body will get into a panic, it will think that it will starve, and therefore change your metabolism into keeping everything. Instead, you should eat at least three times daily, but choose more healthy options, low carb, high in protein meals: Lots of lean meat, poultry, tuna, low fat-no sugar dairy, veggies, fruits and raw nuts, cut down on pasta, rice, bananas, sugar, honey and potatoes. No alcohol, it helps, too. Good luck!
Avatar m tn However, my metabolism (observed based on calories in vs weight change as well as energy levels in response to calorie intakes to distinguish between starvation metabolism and actual calorie needs) is much higher than the standard 2000 calories — even starvation level for my metabolism is much higher than 2000 calories. The following are the nutrients that I suspect would have a higher RDI for a higher metabolism.
756140 tn?1294767094 Breakfast turns up your metabolism by 300 calories!! Your metabolism sleeps when you do--and it only wakes up when you eat your first meal of the day. So the sooner you eat, the better, "Research shows that breakfast eaters burn an extra 200-300 calories a day," notes Gillitt. And if you're already a breakfast eater? At 100-200 calories, a banana breakfast is probably fewer calories than you'd normally eat, yet you'll still get the same metabolism boost.
649848 tn?1534633700 ” When people talk about a fast or slow metabolism, what they’re really getting at is how many calories their body burns as they go about their day. The idea is that someone with a slow metabolism just won’t use up the same amount of energy to do the same task as does someone with a fast metabolism. But does the speed of metabolism really vary all that much from person to person?
Avatar f tn Avoid reducing your calorie intake too drastically. Eating too few calories is counterproductive because it slows down your metabolism. The American College of Sports Medicine recommends that your caloric intake never drop below 1,200 calories per day for women and 1,800 calories for men. Perform strength-training exercises twice a week to increase your metabolism long-term.
Avatar f tn Metabolism is another way of thinking about the rate at which calories are burned. Heavier people interestingly have higher metabolisms than smaller people do, because they require more calories over the course of a day to maintain their body's functions. I generally don't recommend supplements to increase one's metabolism, but small amounts of caffeine as well as catechins contained in green tea will boost metabolism a bit.

Avatar f tn Actually, if you listen to nutritionists, you will note that calories is not the main factor in weight. Metabolism is. While calories play a role, the main role is how well or poorly a particular person metabolizes what they eat. A simple example I often cite is fatty fish such as salmon. High in calories, but you won't find it a weight gainer unless you eat gobs of it at one sitting.

Avatar f tn I think courtney explained it quite well, but I'll answer your specific questions, as asked. 1) Starvation mode is really not a valid term - the word myth fits nicely. It's calories are restricted so much that the body shuts down metabolism in order to preserve fat stores that are already there. Reducing metabolism is a protection against starvation. If you continue to restrict calories, you will eventually lose weight, but as I said before, it won't be healthy.
Avatar f tn d have to drop 500 calories from your BMR each day (1 lb is equal to 3500 calories, so 500 calories X 7 days = 3500 calories or 1 lb). Avatar f tn ve calculated your needs, you will need to subtract calories in order to lose weight. A pound is 3500 calories, so if you want to lose a pound a week, you would need to eliminate that many calories/week. That would average out to 500 calories/day (500 calories/day X 7 days/week = 3500). You can do this a couple of ways.
