Avatar n tn prichard16 - yes, the types of calories makes a difference. While I agree with caregiver222, that 1000 calories is 1000 calories; if you make that 1000 calories a mix of fruits, veggies, dairy, lean meats, nuts, etc --- you will be much healthier and more likely to lose weight than if you get that 1000 calories from 5 candy bars (200 calories/each) throughout the day........... there's a huge difference........
Avatar f tn Then with that number you should calculate how much protein 1 X body weight and minus that from the calories and the rest should be carbs and fats
649848 tn?1534633700 In that sense, sugar is like alcohol. It’s got calories, but it’s not nutrition. There’s no biochemical reaction that requires it. And at high doses, alcohol can fry your liver. Same with sugar. Fructose, the sweet molecule in sugar, contains calories that you can burn for energy, but it’s not nutrition, because there’s no biochemical reaction that requires it. In excess, it can fry your liver, just like alcohol. And this makes sense, because where do you get alcohol from?
644592 tn?1226588817 I have been focusing more on low carbs than calories but my wife things I should be looking at my calories more. What is your opinion and tell me what you have more sucess at.
Avatar f tn It faulted alcohol for being even easier to burn than carbs, so your body stores all your food and burns the alcohol instead, hence the "beer belly". Alcohol, as well as other high carb foods also make you crave more alcohol and high carb foods- a terrible cycle to fall into either way. Back to the point that our bodies are lazy and want to burn the easiest form of energy possible. SO... if you can stick to it for 3-7 days, you will feel a noticeable change in your body.
Avatar f tn 5) now for a month and eating about 1400 calories a day as part of a no more than 35 grams of carbs diet. I only eat fresh low carb vegetables and lean meats; no sugar, no sodas, no junk food, no alcohol, no smoking; and walking 1 hour / 3 times a week. I only lost 5 pounds in 30 days. This is very depressing. I am on Thyroid medication for an under-active thyroid and am within range. What else can I do?
Avatar n tn Carbs raise BG so restricting carbs will help BG. when you say 6 units I assume you mean 6 exchanges which is 90 gr of carbs. If you take 250 mg at each meal that is 750 mg a day, the limit is 2400mg a day so you have room to go up on the Met. It can take 6 to 8 weeks for met to become fully effective.
7894272 tn?1395206727 There are three types of carbs.(fiber, starch, and sugar) All carbs are four calories per gram, but sugar holds no nutritional value, so if you consume a lot of sugar you may meet your caloric(energy) needs, but your body is still starving for nutrients and as a result you consume more and add the calorie surplus to your reserves. (fat) So, in my opinion, if you're trying to use your reserves, it's important that you try and avoid high sugar intake, but the other carbs are fine.
Avatar f tn If not burned quickly they store as fat, and the belly is the first place they are stored, which gives rise to the term beer belly -- alcohol is high is sugar and carbs. So along with exercise, the important thing is to eat foods you metabolize well and digest well and cut down on the ones that "stick," such as simple carbs and the wrong kinds of fat.
Avatar f tn d have to drop 500 calories from your BMR each day (1 lb is equal to 3500 calories, so 500 calories X 7 days = 3500 calories or 1 lb). OR you can drop 250 calories from your diet and increase exercise to use an additional 250 calories. Changing up calorie counts and exercises will help prevent plateau.
Avatar n tn Here is my favorite low calories recipe for mashed potatoes, my family love it. Peel and cube potatoes, cook them in chicken broth. When it is done, pour out the extra chicken broth, sprinkle with dried parsley and use a fork to break up the potatoes. No need to add butter therefore no added calories. Enjoy.
Avatar f tn Also the average person only should be having 300 carbs a day. Sugars are a carb so dont add them to the carbs on the label ( i did that for the longest time lol) Its going to be hard the first month but after that it is a piece of cake. good luck and I would like to keep in contact with you if that is ok. I have also put myself back on my diet after having my two kids they have kind of kicked my butt.
Avatar f tn Of course the proper macro-nutrient levels would have to met also besides just the calories, i.e. carbs, proteins and fats. good luck.
Avatar f tn Especially if I compare decaf green tea, crystal light or zero-cal flavored water to the one decent near bear I liked which was 80 calories and seriously loaded in carbs :( ★★Flavoured water (both sparking and non & sugar-free and regular) is an explosive and growing industry so you might want to stay out of the fruit juice section altogether★★ ☞ There is a lot of variety out there.
1157811 tn?1263831494 I love bread, but also know that they are source of a load of carbs, sugars and empty calories. So, again, what is a healthy amount of carbs per day and in what for are the carbs best consumed? Thanks in advance for any help!
Avatar n tn Here's my take, for what it's worth. Calories aren't a very good guide to weight -- they're a factor but how you metabolize your food is more important. Also realize that most of the people in the world who have been studied for having the healthiest lives eat a lot of carbs -- they aren't on high protein diets. We all know that vegetables are the healthiest foods and should make up the largest portion of our diets, but they are all carbs.
1285110 tn?1420147378 For bulking i normaly go with a 4000 kcal diet of 40% Pro, 40% carbs and 20% fat Although in my next bulking period i plan to do some experementing with other precentage ranges. For loosing weight or more percisly cutting i go with a diet of around 2300 kcal of 60% fat, 35% pro and 5% carbs. This works really well for me.
Avatar f tn Eating Healthy diet does not ensure that you will lose weight. Your weight is a balance between the calories you take in and the calories you burn. You will lose weight if you burn off more calories than you take in, and you will gain weight if you eat more calories than you burn off.
Avatar f tn I agree that if it's not a real big part of your diet you won't see much difference. If you, typically, eat a lot of bread and don't replace it with other carbs/calories, you'll probably lose weight, but if you do replace those calories with something else, you should maintain, as long as you don't replace them with too many calories. Are you giving up everything in the bread group, or just bread? Curious as to why you chose bread to give up. Interesting...
Avatar n tn diet where total fat calories add up to no more than 10% of total daily calories. Protein is also limited on this diet so it's basically high carb, low fat, low-moderate protein. That said, some will say that a more balanced "Zone" type diet is better for the liver. And in fact, both may be correct because it may just turn out that high carbs work with low fat for some people and lower carbs (zone) work with higher fat.
591470 tn?1218975186 Are you eating protein in place of the carbs and maintaining an intake of 1500 calories per day? Besides genetic, loss of hair is either not enough protein or not enough calories to maintain your body. If that is not the case, then see your MD and get blood work done to see if there is a decrease of any other nutrients and be treated properly. If you are not eating properly due to the dieting then suggest you consume 1500 calories daily with protein sources (meat, dairy, egg).
