1707536 tn?1334974077 The development of cirrhosis depends upon the amount and regularity of alcohol intake. Chronic, high levels of alcohol consumption injure liver cells. Thirty percent of individuals who drink daily at least eight to sixteen ounces of hard liquor or the equivalent for fifteen or more years will develop cirrhosis.
Avatar f tn Anything harmful that you or your partner put into your bodies CAN decrease your fertility. The best thing to do would be to start clean; no drinking, absolutely no drugs (for either of you) and at least a cycle of cleansing and charting to figure out when you ovulate to increase your chances. Drink lots of water during your "clean" month and eat healthy, un/low-processed foods and try to exercise lightly most days of the week (both of you).

Avatar m tn Congrats on 9 days sober!! That is great!! What you are feeling is normal and will get better with time. I would highly recommend some sort of recovery care. Using is just a symptom of what is going on. We have to get to the bottom of why we numbed ourselves up. We got used to walking around everything instead of thru it.
4113881 tn?1415850276 Hi all! I just wanted to share something as I'm really excited. I went to the Alcohol & Drug Counselor certification class orientation last night. It was awesome! Right now Im in my last semester in college and will graduate with my 2 year AA in Social and Behavioral Sciences. That's all fine and good but it doesn't so much make me employable in what I want to do. I want to be a substance abuse counselor and to do that you have to get a recognized certification.
87651 tn?1259602403 I have got to support the idea of wine (booze) and thyroid meds. Mixing alcohol with the meds causes me to suffer more panic than usual the next day. EAster I had a few too many Paul Masson's. That night I felt grrrrrreat - but in the wee hours of the morning I woke with such a panic attack - it was horrible. I haven't figured out IF it truely was /is the actual alcohol or if it is due to it converting into sugar.
Avatar f tn t good....EVER! Mixing alcohol with pills, pot and uppers is dangerous too. He is a ticking time bomb, in my opinion. I hope he will get some help before it kills him. Best of luck! Keep us posted, ok?
Avatar m tn Congrats on the month off hydro's. I read your other post and you mentioned that you smoke a few bowls on the weekend and consider that your NA meeting. This really concerns me on a lot of different levels.
Avatar f tn Ditto. A 'dry drunk' refers to a person who has stopped any drug or alcohol but who has not been through treatment. With the possible exception of the treatment of opiate dependence with Suboxone (as I describe here: http://suboxonetalkzone.com/?p=747 ) the addict's behavior doesn't change back to how it was before the addiction.
96938 tn?1189799858 Welcome. I have read other forums in which you have participated and appreciate your views. For a person who has achieved svr what should be the expectation for the reversal/repair of firbrosis and/or cirrhosis? Secondly, if it's medically necessary to evaluate such recovery/repair; how, when and should it be it be done? Thanks.
Avatar n tn Go out and have a great time. I personally have had no issues with alcohol since in recovery. I had 2 beers once, a sip and poured it out another time. I can see how the above could ring true, however each person is an individual. Statistics are a basis to apply a theory and nothing in life is guaranteed. Have a blast and stay safe.
Avatar f tn Recovery care is what you need, not anymore meds. Since this isnt your first rodeo you know the getting clean part is the easy one, staying clean is the hard part. Surround yourself with healthy recovering people. There are many programs out there. Check into it.
Avatar n tn Most people in the very earliest days of addiction recovery experience cravings. It is a common experience in addiction recovery. Alcohol or other drug (AOD) cravings do not mean that you are not working a good program of recovery. With continued abstinence over time, cravings will be reduced in intensity and duration. Eventually, cravings may disappear altogether.
Avatar f tn really.. you check even the vanilla extract label ? ok, it is up to each one and i respect each decision but i don't see it that way... my limit is only one drink and only once or twice per month,.. sometimes i don't drink any alcohol in a month and so far, i haven't had any problems with this. But i see where are you going, opening a gate is always a danger and i would not advice any one to drink even one when going out cause this one could be the first and not the last .
Avatar m tn I would try getting off the alcohol first and see what happens to your anxiety once you are completely and totally sober for many months. For me, my anxiety began with drug use. After halting the drug use...HALTING the drug use completely...my anxiety has been GREATLY reduced. I have hardly any anxiety left. I fear going on meds as well. I am very active and in shape, this also helps a lot. In conclusion, I would try to get off the alcohol COMPLETELY as soon as possible.
Avatar f tn And when we are newly clean, our pain receptors react to alcohol in a similar way as they would to our drug of choice (DOC).. They are raw and healing and that's when our bodies begin to make their own natural chemicals. Plus, with drinking, our inhibitions will lower our resolve to "not pick up" our DOC (drug of choice.) It's like playing with fire.....at least in the first 6 months to a year of being clean.
Avatar f tn any mind altering chemical is a drug. I think we like to say we are "clean" but if stop using vicodins or percs and still smoke pot or use booze we are not really clean. progress not profection. Hang in there.
Avatar n tn would have factual or medical knowledge (rather than your or my opinion, unless you are a doctor) of this drug and what to administer during detox and the recovery process. I found the original question rather ( actually extremely!) alarming, from someone whom is assisting addicts. Apparently I didn't make myself clear in my original post.
457721 tn?1256640798 Before then, I had no history of drug/alcohol abuse and I usually avoided alcohol anyway (it gives me stomach aches). The cravings were a brand new sensation that started about a week after going on Paxil and stopped a few days after quitting it and switching to Effexor.
Avatar f tn Kacey - OK, I get it now. My advice to you still stands. Your chances of surviving the trouble at work will exponentially increase if you're clean and sober...agreed? Then there's the rest of your life. you've had issues with alcohol, you stopped drinking, you were sober a while, then you were uncomfortable with yourself and found another chemical to replace the alcohol. Is that right? Sounds like me. It's drug-seeking.
1253584 tn?1332877954 m reminded on what my so er life has to offer as opposed to my drug lifestyle offered nothing but pain and suffering and feeling of being alone. -Stay away from alcohol it affects the same receptor in my brain that the pills destroyed. I have plenty more but I don't want to bore everyone. What r urs?
Avatar f tn Clean to me is absent from all drugs and alcohol. ( alcohol first messes with your judgement and when ever i drink i want pills so I can not drink) Ive relapsed in the passed because of alcohol. For me getting clean and staying clean is a whole 360 of your life from friends that use, to having support, to vitamins, working out, positive music, even counsling if possible, Ive had to put in work these passed 17 days and some days its not easy but it is so key to take one day at a time.
