Avatar n tn My eye rash started as a bit of raw skin at the outer corners where my eyes would tear, then spread to the fold of my upper eyelids, and now the entire undereye area of both eyes is painful, itchy, red and raw. After drinking alcohol the eye rash becomes much worse and causes me great pain. I have had an allergy test and are only allergic to milk and nuts. However I have discarded these foods from my diet and still have the same problem.

Avatar m tn Avoid wine and alcohol products if you know that they trigger an asthma/ allergy attack. There are already a number of wines without the preservatives that causes the allergy. But have yourself tested first with what you are allergic to.
Avatar f tn It definitely sounds like you could have some type of allergy to alcohol! I have a friend who has very similar symptoms after drinking but his normally starts within about 6 hours of having a couple of drinks. Alcohol allergies at some level is surprisingly more common than most people think. My advice, talk to your Dr. about it just to make sure its nothing more serious ie: liver issues. Good luck!
Avatar n tn I asked my doctor the other day and he said he never heard of such a thing but to go home, get rubbing alcohol and put it on my forearm. If a rash appeared, then I am allergic to alcohol. So I did, and nothing happened.. It seems to be only when I ingest alcohol internally. So I'm guessing something in liquor? I have no clue. So, I was wondering if anyone knows what it may be? Oh, also, if I take 2 benadryl it does seem to help. I don't know!!!
Avatar f tn In the next week it has developed into a patch rash on my lower lip. It is not a bumpy rash, it is just red itchy and ugly. I have been applying Abreva and cortisone. One of the two seemed to work and dry it out. On August 22 I went to the doc and by this time it was dry. The doc did a blood test and it came back negative. It is now the first week of September and the rash is back to being red and itchy because I stopped using the Abreva and cortisone....
Avatar m tn I drank Holsten 3-4 years ago nothing happened but this time I got red face like red pepper, red eyes, rashes on forehead, below front of neck, knees and red palms with little nervousness but no itches. This is disturbing me and sounds like I would have to sacrifice my enjoyment of drinking beer Friday every week. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Avatar m tn Over the past couple of years I have noticed my skin dramatically changing color from fair to pink/red. This mostly occurs when I am drinking beer or wine. The rash usually begins on my chest/throat area, and generally moves on to my face and occasionally arms. It is not raised, like hives, but is blotchy and hot to touch. My guess is that it is an ingredient found in both drinks, but what could it be?
Avatar m tn Its been 4 days and still the same right now. At first its like normal rashes red, but after one day it turns into mini pimples like that. Got it on 1st January after a night of heavy drinking (Carlsberg, Guinness, some mojito and few shots of JD) (is this alcohol flush?) and also eating seafood (squid, fish, softshell crabs) (is this allergy?). I also slept at a very cheap motel beside the sea (is this a bug bite? bed bugs?).
Avatar n tn Everytime my skin is exposed to the sun I find myself developing a small collection of pinprick spots with a red rash on both arms. This rash seems to always occur in the same place (the part of my arm near my elbow and my chest area) and are often soo itchy. I'm worried I may have a form or skin cancer as I got sunburned a few years ago. I do suffer from hayfever and I have had reactions in the past. How can I treat them, or better yet how can I avoid getting them.
Avatar f tn Over the past two years i have had a dry red rash on the area between my anus and vaginal opening. Doctors say it's an allergic reaction but now i have hard whiteish rough bumps on The same Area as the rash, the doctor says it's still an allergic reaction but the steroid cream isnt helping. What could it be?
Avatar m tn Visiting a friend at (1645hrs) she opened a bottle of rose wine and sat down to relax, her friend immediately asked what was wrong with her blotchy neck, the rash spread extremely quickly from there, her ears, hands and top lip began to swell and the spots turned to lumps, within minutes the rash began to turn deep red/purple and the spots and patches began to join together, slightly facial within half an hour her whole body was an extreme bright red.
Avatar m tn My Son is 5 years old and we are noticing red rash in his leg (mostly in knee and below knee), occasionally in hand. No itchy or pain in the rash and it goes off in 3 to 4 days. Checked with dermatology and also allergist but not able to find the cause. We noticed the rash only after he plays in the playground in school or in home. Please share your thoughts if anyone encounter similar kind of problem.
Avatar n tn You are not allergic alcohol. It causes direct vasodilation of the skin, related either to alcohol directly or its metabolite, acetaldehyde. Alcohol is oxidized to acetaldehyde in the liver by alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH). This acetaldehyde is further converted to acetic acid by acetaldehyde dehydrogenase. In some individuals due to abnormal or deficient acetaldehyde dehydrogenase will cause accumulation of acetaldehyde which is a potent trigger of flushing.
