Alcohol allergy rash

Common Questions and Answers about Alcohol allergy rash

alcohol

Avatar n tn I asked my doctor the other day and he said he never heard of such a thing but to go home, get rubbing alcohol and put it on my forearm. If a rash appeared, then I am allergic to alcohol. So I did, and nothing happened.. It seems to be only when I ingest alcohol internally. So I'm guessing something in liquor? I have no clue. So, I was wondering if anyone knows what it may be? Oh, also, if I take 2 benadryl it does seem to help. I don't know!!!
Avatar m tn A few hours later my boyfriend complained of having a burning penile rash, which I assumed was from an allergy to the Metronidizale. He went to the hospital and got a cream for it. Now, several days later, he says its "better" but still complains of being raw. He also did bizarre stuff like apply alcohol to his penis. Have you heard of such an allergic reaction. What can we do now?
Avatar n tn I was wondering what in Beer could I be allergic to that would make me puke after no more than 2 sips. I can drink hard alcohol and never puke, but if I take a few sips of beer it's instant projectile vomit... and then I am fine again.
Avatar n tn You can take antihistaminics prior to consumption of alcohol also but pls get yourself prescribed for them from an allergist. Also it is true that allergy to alcohol can cause anaphylactic reaction which may be life threatening. Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar n tn My eye rash started as a bit of raw skin at the outer corners where my eyes would tear, then spread to the fold of my upper eyelids, and now the entire undereye area of both eyes is painful, itchy, red and raw. After drinking alcohol the eye rash becomes much worse and causes me great pain. I have had an allergy test and are only allergic to milk and nuts. However I have discarded these foods from my diet and still have the same problem.
Avatar f tn It definitely sounds like you could have some type of allergy to alcohol! I have a friend who has very similar symptoms after drinking but his normally starts within about 6 hours of having a couple of drinks. Alcohol allergies at some level is surprisingly more common than most people think. My advice, talk to your Dr. about it just to make sure its nothing more serious ie: liver issues. Good luck!
779797 tn?1263618235 s called intoxication, not allergy. None of your symptoms point to an alcohol allergy. I suggest you stay away from it. Why make matters worse? Have you seen a doctor for any of these symptoms? Something as simple as an inner ear problem can also cause dizziness. Allergies can pop up out of nowhere. Did you test positive for anything?
Avatar m tn Avoid wine and alcohol products if you know that they trigger an asthma/ allergy attack. There are already a number of wines without the preservatives that causes the allergy. But have yourself tested first with what you are allergic to.
Avatar m tn Thanks for getting back,I did cut alcohol out entirely. gone back to 5mg lamictal until I see my doctor. Mind you the Allergy test came back negative for Steven's Johnson, or any other allergy to Lamictal when I did that 4 weeks ago, or else I wouldnt have gone back on it. Thanks again for for your input.
Avatar m tn My doc also told me it was an allergy to the sun. Only exposed spots show a rash and if I am in the sun, the rash is 10 times worse. I never actually "tan" but rather just remain a blotchy red all the time. And the itch is ridiculous!!
Avatar m tn Excessive alcohol consumption causes the blood capillaries to swell and what u see in ur cheeks is them rupturing close to the skin surface.
Avatar n tn I have always had sensitive skin and a belt buckle rash that comes and goes...same with the eczema on my thigh. That has been diagnosed in the past as eczema and I've usually just been given elocon until it goes away. Now, however, out of nowhere, drinking suddenly makes it much worse. Is there a certain type of alcohol that would be less likely to cause this? And is it possible that I developed a sudden allergic reaction to alcohol? I drink a few times per week.
Avatar f tn my question is could he get an allergy now? his symptoms are as follows...as soon as he gets a taste of beer he is instantly drunk. he staggers and slurs his words. also his eyes open all the way, as wide as they can. he starts to grind his teeth like hes on a drug too. he doesn't believe this happens to him but i am very worried he may be causing some major damage. i realize being an alcoholic this long has done damage but this is scary. i have never seen anyone like this before.
Avatar m tn For that please consult an allergy specialist and get skin ***** tests and blood tests for allergy done. If the skin testing is negative, it is likely that you are intolerant to wine and beer. If the skin testing is positive, you should avoid food and drink that contain that specific ingredient. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Avatar m tn I had an allergy to alcohol. It gave me asthma that once was so sudden and severe that I was blacking out. Luckily my dinner partner was a doctor. I was subsequently cured of the allergy. The throat problem certainly sounds like allergy, except for the delay in your reaction. It should be immediate. It seems more likely that alcohol or some additive in the alcohol is toxic for you. If that is the case you should never drink anything alcoholic.
