I have spoken to about a ten nurses and even seen my doctor..all of whom had no clue what to tell me. Avatar n tn There are many causes like worms in stool, depression, anorexia nervosa, AIDS, cancers especially colon cancers, drug abuse, infections and loss of appetite. Loss of appetite can again be due to certain medications, drug abuse, depression, AIDS, acute and chronic infections, cancers and hypothyroidism. Either you do not eat well or there is increased metabolism as in hyperthyroid states, HIV, cancer etc.
1621722 tn?1333050499 Welcome to the forum. None of us are qualified to give you any sort of diagnosis, especially online. If you're using alcohol as a way to deal with anxiety and depression, you could be heading down a slippery slope. It already sounds as though you need to figure out exactly how bad your "problem" with alcohol is...and the sooner the better, before it gets any worse.
86075 tn?1238115091 WEDNESDAY, March 5 (HealthDay News) -- Mice given the weight-loss drug rimonabant became resistant to alcohol's fat-building effects in the liver, which suggests the medication may help fight alcoholic fatty liver in humans, says a U.S. study. Alcoholism is the leading cause of liver disease in Western societies, according to background information in the study.
Avatar f tn Becoming free from alcohol is a very doable thing. But remaining free from alcohol takes work. I had to take part in my own recovery and work on myself so I would change. If I don't change nothing changes. Nobody could do that for me. But there are millions of us in recovery all over the world. So freedom for you is out there waiting. Keep your willingness and continue to make the steps in the right direction like you've described in your post. You don't have to be sick anymore.
Avatar f tn More can be lost through water weight with diuretics and crash dieting can also increase fat loss but only for a short time. When we lose fat too fast our metabolism will slow in order to conserve fat (fuel) deposits (starvation mode) and that creates new problems such a resetting the metabolic rate and fat gains during the plateau, etc.
Avatar f tn Hi all. I am about to start my weight loss prog. Is it true about coffee? I dont drink alcohol but do drink about 20 cup's of coffee a day.
2032821 tn?1330563082 Weight loss can come from both diverticulitis and ulcers. But the weight loss indicates a worsening of her diverticulitis, which can be fatal. Drinking alcohol on top of all this ulceration and diverticulitis can hasten this outcome. If she would simply quit drinking and follow her physician's advice on how to control the diverticulitis and how to control her ulcers, she would not lose anymore weight and she will live.
1669446 tn?1303551937 That is a pretty quick weight loss from Feb 20th to now. That alone can be very hard on your body......How is your appetite?
1563920 tn?1299288683 If you look at my past posts, I have been dealing with neurological issues for some time now. I have been very depressed about everything, from having to quit nursing to my inability to work and drive. During this time, I have been turning to alcohol to kind of deal with my problems, not such a good idea, I know!!! It hadn't seemed to be a problem until last night. A group of my friends, including my boyfriend, went out for my birthday.
Avatar n tn He had a car accident and he did not remember leaving the house it like he is doing these things in his sleep. Can Ambien cause memory loss and blackout periods after long term abuse and will this go away after awhile?
Avatar m tn He has been diagnosed with fatty liver disease and possible stage A cirrhosis due to alcohol abuse. He had an ultrasound and all of his blood work has come back normal two different times. My concern is that he was put on a diuretic for the edema. He lost all of the fluid except for the abdomen. I had noticed his face and arms were getting very thin even when he was so swollen in his lower body and before the diuretic.

Avatar f tn It sounds like, as you lose the weight, you are bumping into some of the emotional reasons you had for gaining it. It sounds kind of like you think somehow you will starve or shortchange yourself or not be protected, if you get rid of the weight. But fear is not fact, and the weight is excess weight, not necessary for your body and in fact somewhat dangerous during pregnancy especially. When I was in my ninth month I had gained 35 lbs. and was 160 lbs.
Avatar n tn Thank you for taking the time to respond. One follow up question. What about the chances of NASH? Why does APAP rarely result in chronic liver disease when it destroys the liver so much quicker than alcohol? Thank you.

Avatar n tn People tend to develop fatty liver if they have certain other conditions, such as obesity, diabetes, or high triglycerides. Alcohol abuse, rapid weight loss and malnutrition may also lead to fatty liver. However, some people develop fatty liver even if they have none of these conditions – so everyone should know about it. How is fatty liver diagnosed? Your doctor may see something unusual in your blood test or notice that your liver is slightly enlarged during a routine checkup.
Avatar m tn Fatty liver can also be caused from diabetes, alcohol abuse, obesity or poor diet to name a few. Weight loss, abstaining from alcohol and proper diet can help to reduce or the problems caused by fatty liver. Currently, studies are underway on certain drugs such as Actigall. This drug appears to reduce liver damage in cases of steatohepatitis otherwise known as fatty liver. At this time, however, it is not certain how helpful these drugs will be.
Avatar n tn They don't work for weight loss...you do know that right?

Avatar f tn I think depression can lead to weight loss. Before i went on mirtazapine My weight was a bit under what is should have been. Now Ive put on over a stone and want to get off mitrazapine as it no longer helps with depression. But I lost nearly a stone five years ago due to severe depression so it can cause weight loss. I want now want to lose a stone and get back to my normal weight of 11 stone for my build . I hate being overweight.
Avatar f tn Speaking to your original question about rapid weight loss in cirrhosis. The symptom of rapid weight loss would be associated with end stages of cirrhosis would be when the body begins consuming itself and basically begins to shut down near death. This weight loss is a symptom of muscle waisting.
