Avatar f tn Becoming free from alcohol is a very doable thing. But remaining free from alcohol takes work. I had to take part in my own recovery and work on myself so I would change. If I don't change nothing changes. Nobody could do that for me. But there are millions of us in recovery all over the world. So freedom for you is out there waiting. Keep your willingness and continue to make the steps in the right direction like you've described in your post. You don't have to be sick anymore.
1621722 tn?1333050499 Welcome to the forum. None of us are qualified to give you any sort of diagnosis, especially online. If you're using alcohol as a way to deal with anxiety and depression, you could be heading down a slippery slope. It already sounds as though you need to figure out exactly how bad your "problem" with alcohol is...and the sooner the better, before it gets any worse.
Avatar n tn Our daughter was forced to have unsupervised custody last week where she informed us that he was vomiting all evening. I have researched symptoms of alcohol and Tylenol abuse and found possible signs of liver damage. For the concern of my daughter, we are extremely scared on what he is capable of when she see's him. We are hoping anyone who has experience on this could offer us advise.

362971 tn?1201987034 207 Clearly, for heavy alcohol users, efforts should be undertaken to treat the alcohol abuse and dependence before starting treatment, but treatment is not contraindicated for persons who have an occasional drink of alcohol or who have a history of alcoholism. Although no consensus opinion exists, it seems reasonable to recommend either the complete suspension of alcohol intake while on treatment or to restrict the use of alcohol to an occasional drink during the course of the treatment.
Avatar f tn My question is this I have a history of alcohol abuse, it started about 12 years ago when I had my child, I met a guy (who I spent 10 years with), could never get a babysitter so he started bringing beer into the house (only ever drank when I went out prior to this) after a year we were drinking a full bottle of scotch together every night,I had a very highly paid job god only knows how I kept it without being dicovered, after 10 years I left him tried to make a new start abroad it went wrong I
1563920 tn?1299288683 If you look at my past posts, I have been dealing with neurological issues for some time now. I have been very depressed about everything, from having to quit nursing to my inability to work and drive. During this time, I have been turning to alcohol to kind of deal with my problems, not such a good idea, I know!!! It hadn't seemed to be a problem until last night. A group of my friends, including my boyfriend, went out for my birthday.
Avatar n tn as a rule narcs can be stopped much less dangerously than heavy alcohol abuse//physically// cos as a rule there is no risks unless a narc user is old and has heart failure//mentally both r a true bumber//and aftercare for alcohol abuse is almost imperative cos it is everywhere//and drug abuse is not socially acceptable like alcohol is..peeps do not pass out oxys at the bowling alley like they do beers u didnt state what ur abuse issue was/or if there was one at all???..
Avatar m tn We investigated the effect of alcohol on treatment outcome in a cohort of 421 treatment naïve HCV+ patients, members of an integrated health care plan treated with P/R between January 2002 and June 2008. A detailed drinking history was obtained for 259 (61.5%) eligible patients. Regular drinking was reported by 93.1% of patients prior to HCV diagnosis, by 30.9% between HCV diagnosis and treatment, by 1.9% during treatment, and 11.6% after the end of treatment.
Avatar n tn You have good reason to be worried. I doubt whether an a doctor would tell your daughter that there is no danger in this combination of drugs. This is indeed a dangerous combination and although she may be lucky and have no effect she is taking a very big risk and she should know that.
Avatar m tn It takes years of drinking alcohol for your pancreas to become inflammed, and it won't go away just because you aren't drinking as much or at all. You need to cut out alcohol completely and follow your doctor's plan of treatment. The damage was done when you drank heavily and is just now showing up, but this is common. There are things like smoking and drinking which hurts our bodies but may not show up for years, and often years after one has ceased to drink or smoke.
1032715 tn?1315984234 The genetic therapy is based on aldehyde dehydrogenase, a group of enzymes that metabolise alcohol and are thus responsible for alcohol tolerance, said Juan Asenjo, who heads a team of researchers at Chile's Faculty of Sciences and Mathematics and the private lab Recalcine. About 20 per cent of the Asian population lacks this enzyme and thus experience "such a strong reaction that it discourages consumption," he added.
Avatar n tn In persons with a history of alcohol abuse who have completed alcohol treatment, GGT may be used to monitor compliance with the treatment program.
Avatar n tn Sweet. New abuse, I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Avatar m tn If your friend doesn’t kick the alcohol/drug abuse prior to starting this treatment, I doubt she will be able to handle the side effects of the treatment. If she doesn’t do the treatment and continues with the alcohol/drug abuse, she should at least go shopping for a coffin. You should also distance your self from her because you can’t stop a train wreck. Liver Cancer is a horrible way to die and if she brings it upon herself, you shouldn’t have to watch it.
5864500 tn?1380889597 t understand why they cannot notice any real improvements with their depression, meanwhile they may be doing things that would directly counteract any depression treatment, like drink alcohol regularly, abuse drugs, continue to stay stuck with a very unhealthy lifestyle like poor diet and inactivity, in addition to not really doing much to push themselves to get better. While it's very hard sometimes to push ourselves to TRY, it's just so important.
Avatar m tn however I did just finish with the treatment. I realize that alcohol is not good for the liver but either is half the crap we have to eat! I know I can't afford to feed my family organic food! with all the chemicals in our food how can a few beers a week be all that bad? I dont know. lol. Thank you for all your opinions. To me they count!
Avatar f tn I am surprised that he was given the option of treatment since he obviously has a drinking problem Generally prospective treaters are carefully screened for alcohol/drug abuse and must go to rehab and be clean and sober for at least 6 months before beginning treatment Does your partner know that even if he clears the virus, he will continue to damage his liver by drinking?
Avatar n tn At this point I would not worry about cirrhosis, especially if you are about to quit drinking and get a doctor to look at you, to make sure that you neuropathy is due to vitamin deficiency and will resolve spontaneously with thiamine replacement and proper nutrition. Let us not give you diagnoses that you have not earned yet, OK? Let us take care of your health and avoid future problems. Good luck. P.S. BTW, if you smoke, might be a good idea to quit as well, while you are at it.
Avatar m tn I am so glad that you have finally come to a realization that alcohol abuse is truly poisonous to your body. It leaches vitamins and nutrients out of you and damages your central nervous system. That is why I always suggest that alcohol detox take place in a hospital under medical supervision. You need to be on medication such as benzodiazapines to prevent seizures and have IV vitamin supplementation, especially thiamine, among others. Please do not take this advise lightly.
Avatar f tn t work that way. Alcohol is a drug just like the others and is just as dangerous. I never liked alcohol. In fact, I've been drunk enough times to count on one hand. However, I plan to never drink again. Why? Because the brain has no way to differentiate between the chemicals that I use to alter my mood. You're discovering that addiction actually has very little to do with the substances we take. It's a mental disease that changes the very way we think.
