Avatar f tn My question is this I have a history of alcohol abuse, it started about 12 years ago when I had my child, I met a guy (who I spent 10 years with), could never get a babysitter so he started bringing beer into the house (only ever drank when I went out prior to this) after a year we were drinking a full bottle of scotch together every night,I had a very highly paid job god only knows how I kept it without being dicovered, after 10 years I left him tried to make a new start abroad it went wrong I
Avatar f tn s bilateral, both upper and lower (feet, calves, legs and arms) which is more suggestive of peripheral nervous system than conditions effecting the central nervous system which MS is....To be honest i don't think the tests you've mentioned are not enough to point towards what could be causing what you've been experiencing, i'd suggest you ask your primary physician what tests you still need to determine what is more likely causing these types of symptoms. I hope that helps.....

1563920 tn?1299288683 If you look at my past posts, I have been dealing with neurological issues for some time now. I have been very depressed about everything, from having to quit nursing to my inability to work and drive. During this time, I have been turning to alcohol to kind of deal with my problems, not such a good idea, I know!!! It hadn't seemed to be a problem until last night. A group of my friends, including my boyfriend, went out for my birthday.
Avatar f tn Becoming free from alcohol is a very doable thing. But remaining free from alcohol takes work. I had to take part in my own recovery and work on myself so I would change. If I don't change nothing changes. Nobody could do that for me. But there are millions of us in recovery all over the world. So freedom for you is out there waiting. Keep your willingness and continue to make the steps in the right direction like you've described in your post. You don't have to be sick anymore.
9299142 tn?1402941543 I am so glad that you have finally come to a realization that alcohol abuse is truly poisonous to your body. It leaches vitamins and nutrients out of you and damages your central nervous system. That is why I always suggest that alcohol detox take place in a hospital under medical supervision. You need to be on medication such as benzodiazepines to prevent seizures and have IV vitamin supplementation, especially thiamine, among others. Please do not take this advise lightly.

Avatar m tn Wow that is a heavy duty question.......the risk of sudden death and arrythmias due from alcohol abuse are fairly remote however you have to remember that with overdoing it with the alcohol which is a depressive causes your whole system to slow down and depress everything in your body....
Avatar n tn Neurontin acts on the GABA receptors in the nervous system. GABA is the inhibitory neurotransmitter, that is, (very simplistically), it turns down the effects of the other stimulatory neurotransmitters. The benzos, (valium, Klonopin, etc also act on GABA). Alcohol also promotes GABA's numbing effects & it's likely that some people who like this effect of alcohol may experience similar sensations from Neurontin.
Avatar m tn Is it concluded that there is to be no more alcohol of any kind forever? What about after you have cleared the virus?
Avatar m tn Alcohol seriously damages the liver, the central nervous system, the gastrointestinal tract, and the heart as well as severe brain issues. Have you ever heard of "wet brain"? Long term alcohol abuse can cause a retardation effect referred to as wet brain. I've seen it in person and it's not nice...
Avatar n tn as a rule narcs can be stopped much less dangerously than heavy alcohol abuse//physically// cos as a rule there is no risks unless a narc user is old and has heart failure//mentally both r a true bumber//and aftercare for alcohol abuse is almost imperative cos it is everywhere//and drug abuse is not socially acceptable like alcohol is..peeps do not pass out oxys at the bowling alley like they do beers u didnt state what ur abuse issue was/or if there was one at all???..
Avatar n tn I have a hard time believing that such powerful drugs will not interact with alcohol, and that they are completely out of her system by evening. I am also concerned about the addition of birth control pills in the "mix". Do I have anything to worry about? There are a lot of scary "confessions" on the Internet from Adderall abusers, I just don't know who to believe. She also has a family history of addiction and drug/alcohol abuse that I am concerned about.
Avatar f tn m staring off in a daze • No energy, yawning all the time • Anxiety, periods of depression These symptoms continued to get worse over the years and then a little over a year ago I developed new symptoms • Eye floaters • Eye pain • Light sensitivity • Seeing After images (image burn in) • Tinnitus • Dull ear ache feeling off and on • Muscle twitching, weakness and pain Maybe there are different causes to all these symptoms but the biggest thing I keep thinking about is it possible that I
Avatar f tn Sedatives, tranquilizers, muscle relaxants, antidepressants, and other central nervous system (CNS) depressants may have additive CNS- and/or respiratory-depressant effects with propoxyphene. Misuse of propoxyphene, either alone or in combination with other CNS depressants, has been a major cause of drug-related deaths, particularly in patients with a history of emotional disturbances, suicidal ideation, or alcohol and drug abuse.
190885 tn?1333025891 She will be xperiencing a moderate amount of depression for some time due to the amount u describe she was drinking....alcohol is a central nervous system depressant so go figure here.....Campral or Naltrexone would be a good choice in helping her to stay sober and further take the craving away for alcohol.she in counseling?a support group?church involvement?
Avatar m tn Alcohol is a nervous system depressant, somewhat the same as the benzo drugs' effect on the body. When you depress the nervous system, it wants to return to its normal level self as soon as the chemical begins to wear off. So it speeds up. That's when you get jittery, sweaty and anxious. Its also the way into addiction in order to not want to face those symptoms. Stop drinking for good. It's only a path to an awful life.
Avatar n tn 1. Due to my alcohol abuse could my immune system be negatively effected and not producing enough anti-bodies resulting in a false negative out to 9 months. 2. My lymphocyte count was around 1700 on my CBC a little on the low end of the scale. Would this be any indication that my body isn't functioning correctly? 3. I know IV drug users have sometimes taken longer to sero convert, could this also be the case for long time alcohol abusers? 4.
Avatar n tn Hi, “A demyelinating disease is any disease of the nervous system in which the myelin sheath of neurons is damaged. This impairs the conduction of signals in the affected nerves, causing impairment in sensation, movement, cognition, or other functions depending on which nerves are involved”.
1621722 tn?1333050499 Welcome to the forum. None of us are qualified to give you any sort of diagnosis, especially online. If you're using alcohol as a way to deal with anxiety and depression, you could be heading down a slippery slope. It already sounds as though you need to figure out exactly how bad your "problem" with alcohol is...and the sooner the better, before it gets any worse.
Avatar f tn I would call and ask because something either in your blood or urine test came back positive because that is what poly substance abuse means multiple drugs in your system. I don't think cigarettes can cause that but I'm not sure I am not a smoker.
