Avatar n tn He had a car accident and he did not remember leaving the house it like he is doing these things in his sleep. Can Ambien cause memory loss and blackout periods after long term abuse and will this go away after awhile?
Avatar m tn m in connecticut, as far a the brain, i think it depends on how much abuse is involved, but i know memory loss is enevitible.
Avatar m tn I will be praying for your healing - and for the return of your memory. As GoPens66 mentioned - you're in an alcohol/substance related group - memory loss can be associated with drinking. It can be associated with many other things, too - from different medications, mental or cognitive health conditions, and even sometimes stress.
Avatar n tn Memory loss or amnesia, has multiple causes including a number of chronic medical and psychological conditions, trauma, medications, drug or alcohol abuse, and infections Hed trauma may be another cause. Depending on the cause, memory loss may have either a sudden or gradual onset, and memory loss may be permanent or temporary. Have him evaluated further to ease your anxiety and for proper management.
Avatar f tn I have had memory loss for a long time now. I have gone through some trauma in my life, but I have never banged my head or been in a car accident. I have been emotionally abused and was in a bad controlling relationship 4 years ago. I am 21 years old, yet as soon as events happen I don't remember them unless I see pictures or hear someone recall a happy event. For example, they will say remember when? and then they will tell a story and I don't remember it until they explain.
Avatar n tn Infections that affect the brain, such as herpes or encephalitis may also cause memory loss. Severe alcohol or drug abuse, and malnutrition, act to deprive the brain of nutrients causing the death of brain cells. This can also cause significant loss of memories. Memory loss may sometimes result from stroke, if it affects the area of the brain concerned with memory functions. Once brain cells die, they cannot be replaced.
Avatar n tn I get cluster headaches EVERY day & migraines at least 2-3 times a week. I can't have an mri because of an implant,so I'm going for a ct scan. One year ago they were only "tension" headaches & now they are blinding. My neurologist gave up & said "just migraines" not to treat them any more because of 1 missed payment & dismissed me. Another doctor found the clusters & put me on oxygen, but they come back soon after I stop.
Avatar n tn I am on effexor and am experiencing memory loss. I have been on it for years at 225 mg I am a practicing bulimic, recovered alcoholic, ex smoker and exercise regularly. I am 61 and eat right in the morning and day, but the evenings are always shot. my question is does antidepressive medicine cause memory loss?
Avatar f tn My question is this I have a history of alcohol abuse, it started about 12 years ago when I had my child, I met a guy (who I spent 10 years with), could never get a babysitter so he started bringing beer into the house (only ever drank when I went out prior to this) after a year we were drinking a full bottle of scotch together every night,I had a very highly paid job god only knows how I kept it without being dicovered, after 10 years I left him tried to make a new start abroad it went wrong I

Avatar m tn t see anything it was progressive but I may have over-looked it, it mentioned memory loss as an immediate side effect. I just thought it to be strange to be capable for twenty years and then not. To manage the whole department was a big responsibility and something you surely must have worked hard for. Sorry you had to go through so much.
Avatar m tn Sorry Hi, My question really is about memory loss. I am only 24 years and I feel like I am too young to be experiencing this kind of memory loss; I don't know what you want to call it but I just think maybe it's getting worse? I always had a little hard time remembering things but recently I think it has reached a level now where it is impacting me and my surrondings. Less than a week ago, I lost my iphone, (or so I thought) when going at the post office.
Avatar n tn I can understand your concern. A couple of questions--How long has this memory loss been going on, that she can't remember having taken a shower? And how long ago did she see a doctor, and what tests if any did they do when she saw him/her? If she hasn't seen a doctor lately, since she seems worse today than she has been in the past, I would call and see if the doctor can see her today. Many different conditions can cause memory problems (including alcohol and/or other drug problems).
Avatar m tn Hi there. You have short term memory loss and you are young. The causes for this loss of memory could be many like lack of sleep, hurried up routine, psychogenic memory loss after a stressful and life threatening event, vitamin B1 deficiency, certain drug abuse like PCP, LSD and cocaine. Some prescription drugs can also be the culprit like barbiturates, tricyclic anti depressants etc. brain infections like encephalitis and head trauma are other rare causes.
Avatar m tn He has been diagnosed with fatty liver disease and possible stage A cirrhosis due to alcohol abuse. He had an ultrasound and all of his blood work has come back normal two different times. My concern is that he was put on a diuretic for the edema. He lost all of the fluid except for the abdomen. I had noticed his face and arms were getting very thin even when he was so swollen in his lower body and before the diuretic.
Avatar f tn m thinking things that happened yesterday actually happened two days ago.....anyone experience memory loss in withdrawal. Its very bizarre. Anyway today is cussing amazing! It is day seven right?
1563920 tn?1299288683 If you look at my past posts, I have been dealing with neurological issues for some time now. I have been very depressed about everything, from having to quit nursing to my inability to work and drive. During this time, I have been turning to alcohol to kind of deal with my problems, not such a good idea, I know!!! It hadn't seemed to be a problem until last night. A group of my friends, including my boyfriend, went out for my birthday.
1475202 tn?1536270977 Side effects such as loss of balance, confusion, lack of concentration and memory loss. There are many more to list but screw that! ha ha you get the point. For example this post has already taken an hour to write because sometimes I find myself just gazing out the window! ha ha Anyways my over all point is that the transplant will be necessary since the TIPS procedure from what I know would increase the toxins to very dangerous levels.
Avatar n tn Alzheimers is a form of Dementia where the brain cells die causing loss of memory and 'tangled' thoughts with the thinking process. There are many forms of Dementia....Alzheimers being one of them. Basically it is where the frontal lobe of the brain starts to die off. There is thought to be some connection between thyroid issues and Dementia but not enough evidence to prove this. Most types of Dementia are caused by aging....and Alzheimers being one of the most common signs of Dementia.
Avatar m tn I am sorry to hear about your son’s medical problems. His memory loss could be due to the weight loss. Unintentional weight loss could be due to eating disorder. In which case taking help from a doctor specialized in treating eating disorders will help. There are many other causes of unexplained weight loss like worms in stool, depression, anorexia nervosa, AIDS (unlikely in your son’s case), cancers especially colon cancers, drug abuse, infections and loss of appetite.
Avatar n tn as a rule narcs can be stopped much less dangerously than heavy alcohol abuse//physically// cos as a rule there is no risks unless a narc user is old and has heart failure//mentally both r a true bumber//and aftercare for alcohol abuse is almost imperative cos it is everywhere//and drug abuse is not socially acceptable like alcohol is..peeps do not pass out oxys at the bowling alley like they do beers u didnt state what ur abuse issue was/or if there was one at all???..
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed a version of ADD and has shown symptoms of depression based on having a terrible history of physical abuse (as a child) and rape and associated physical abuse as an adult. It’s been a few years since anything traumatic has happened to me yet I am still having these adverse side effects. Not being able to afford (and having too much pride) a counselor, how can I get some real sleep at night without throwing punches?
Avatar n tn m having depression/anxiety issues after alcohol abuse) but maybe someone here might also know something about this. I know no one here knows this for sure, and maybe I'm looking in the wrong place on here but thought I would put it out there. I am just wondering if anyone here has ever asked their doctor or qualified professional if it is possible to run out of neurotransmitters whether it be naturally or from substance abuse. I'm a young male (24) and abused alcoholfor 5-6 years.
1318483 tn?1318347182 Hi, all- I was wondering if any of you all know of what could mimic an MS hug. Especially if the person is having headaches and memory loss and poor sleeping patterns. She has also been experiencing hives. This person is female, age 15, who has a history of sexual abuse. I suspect PTSD...maybe panic attacks? What do you think? I will say she just got a referral to a neuro and has an MRI and C-scan scheduled.
715004 tn?1309077280 I didnt think you had Alzheimers I go there as I have a family member with certain issues, and you get feedback from others ,regarding any memory loss. Not meds either so it seems to be your thoughts and as you say yourself it is a defense mechanism , there are some good books out there to help you find out the ways your past has influenced your life and the presant.
