Avatar n tn Is this free? NO!! I have temporal wasting and nobody has been knowledgeable enough to tell me how to reverse it. I have spoken to about a ten nurses and even seen my doctor..all of whom had no clue what to tell me. I feel really defeated because I have been trying to add more protein, calories, and carbs to my diet, but with little results. I look like I have Anorexia, TB, or HIV when I don't!! What should I do? Do you even know?
Avatar f tn Becoming free from alcohol is a very doable thing. But remaining free from alcohol takes work. I had to take part in my own recovery and work on myself so I would change. If I don't change nothing changes. Nobody could do that for me. But there are millions of us in recovery all over the world. So freedom for you is out there waiting. Keep your willingness and continue to make the steps in the right direction like you've described in your post. You don't have to be sick anymore.
Avatar f tn My question is this I have a history of alcohol abuse, it started about 12 years ago when I had my child, I met a guy (who I spent 10 years with), could never get a babysitter so he started bringing beer into the house (only ever drank when I went out prior to this) after a year we were drinking a full bottle of scotch together every night,I had a very highly paid job god only knows how I kept it without being dicovered, after 10 years I left him tried to make a new start abroad it went wrong I
1563920 tn?1299288683 If you look at my past posts, I have been dealing with neurological issues for some time now. I have been very depressed about everything, from having to quit nursing to my inability to work and drive. During this time, I have been turning to alcohol to kind of deal with my problems, not such a good idea, I know!!! It hadn't seemed to be a problem until last night. A group of my friends, including my boyfriend, went out for my birthday.
Avatar n tn as a rule narcs can be stopped much less dangerously than heavy alcohol abuse//physically// cos as a rule there is no risks unless a narc user is old and has heart failure//mentally both r a true bumber//and aftercare for alcohol abuse is almost imperative cos it is everywhere//and drug abuse is not socially acceptable like alcohol is..peeps do not pass out oxys at the bowling alley like they do beers u didnt state what ur abuse issue was/or if there was one at all???..
Avatar n tn People tend to develop fatty liver if they have certain other conditions, such as obesity, diabetes, or high triglycerides. Alcohol abuse, rapid weight loss and malnutrition may also lead to fatty liver. However, some people develop fatty liver even if they have none of these conditions – so everyone should know about it. How is fatty liver diagnosed? Your doctor may see something unusual in your blood test or notice that your liver is slightly enlarged during a routine checkup.
Avatar f tn Hi There As hector has said the score is indicative of F3 or F4 depending on the cause, it may alcohol alone or you may have metabolic syndrome which has been exacerbated by the alcohol. F3 and F4 is usually permanent damage and will likely be progressive. Some people do however stop progression and live a long life. here is a scoring card; http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/de/FibroScan_Scoring_Card_for_Liver_Stiffness_Diagnosis.
Avatar m tn He has been diagnosed with fatty liver disease and possible stage A cirrhosis due to alcohol abuse. He had an ultrasound and all of his blood work has come back normal two different times. My concern is that he was put on a diuretic for the edema. He lost all of the fluid except for the abdomen. I had noticed his face and arms were getting very thin even when he was so swollen in his lower body and before the diuretic.
1621722 tn?1333050499 Welcome to the forum. None of us are qualified to give you any sort of diagnosis, especially online. If you're using alcohol as a way to deal with anxiety and depression, you could be heading down a slippery slope. It already sounds as though you need to figure out exactly how bad your "problem" with alcohol is...and the sooner the better, before it gets any worse.
Avatar f tn lots of pain meds have tylenol in them...and sometimes they are loaded with it...this s@#! can kill your liver ..........sounds to me like if you keep up the drinking and meds you"ll be having problems that last a life time and are not at all fun...i guess it's up to you what your goals in life are are...good luck...
Avatar n tn Our daughter was forced to have unsupervised custody last week where she informed us that he was vomiting all evening. I have researched symptoms of alcohol and Tylenol abuse and found possible signs of liver damage. For the concern of my daughter, we are extremely scared on what he is capable of when she see's him. We are hoping anyone who has experience on this could offer us advise.
Avatar f tn ve also noticed a growth on my skin, I had thought it must be fungal, but now I am starting to wonder whether it could be related to Malnutrition? Exhaustion, hair-loss, involuntary-trembling, breathlessness and rapid heart-rate are the symptoms I'm starting to pick up now. But the growth on my skin, spreading in my chest, tummy and the other side of my elbows are what worries me the most. I've been applying Live Yogurt on the spots to no avail. Could it be related to Malnutrition?
82861 tn?1333453911 Hard to believe in this day and age, but after years of fighting abdominal adhesions and constant small bowel obstruction I finally hit bottom. What with one disaster after another I completely let myself go and paid no attention to what I put in my mouth - or not. It didn't happen overnight that's for sure.
Avatar n tn Prealbumin is a pretty good indicator of malnutrition. Also some stool tests will show different types of malnutrition. Can you give us some more information about your condition?
Avatar m tn if the xanax is in addition to the alcohol.....then he's really playing with fire here. being a medical student, you should know already how diazepam is used for withdrawal from xanax. this needs to be dr surpervised and the process alone of switching from xanax to valium is a long process...but ultimately at these doses and with alcohol in the mix, perhaps thats the best route? a doctor will know best...but the alcohol needs to be dealt with FIRST...then the xanax.
1255505 tn?1272819115 How many people here have a history of substance abuse? Did it result from or result in any episodes? I abused cannabis off and on from 13 to 20. I abused LSD from 16 to 20. I abused alcohol off and on from 21 to 37. I abused morphine & oxycodone at 40. Yikes! I also tried a few other things, but they never really took hold.

Avatar n tn Infections that affect the brain, such as herpes or encephalitis may also cause memory loss. Severe alcohol or drug abuse, and malnutrition, act to deprive the brain of nutrients causing the death of brain cells. This can also cause significant loss of memories. Memory loss may sometimes result from stroke, if it affects the area of the brain concerned with memory functions. Once brain cells die, they cannot be replaced.
Avatar f tn Hello, Without examination, confirming a diagnosis is tough but various possibilities are there for your symptoms. Avatar f tn Has she lost a ton of weight and looks very old? This is from her body being poisoned and from malnutrition accelerating the process. Soon, her kidneys may began to fail, she may suffer a heart attack or stroke, and she may begin to hallucinate (or just become very paranoid). My brother went through this and, by some miracle, got out of it before it killed him. He has a productive life now, and has not touched meth in many years but has some heart damage and a criminal record from it.
1171357 tn?1285851820 While i was suffering from anxiety i was doing like you and only reading about something i might get or have would trigger a panic attack. Also alcohol abuse is not a good thing and you probably know it and it's a depressant and damage your liver and prevent a good sugar's excretion. Medications can surely treat symptoms but they don't address the problem to the root.
362971 tn?1201987034 207 Clearly, for heavy alcohol users, efforts should be undertaken to treat the alcohol abuse and dependence before starting treatment, but treatment is not contraindicated for persons who have an occasional drink of alcohol or who have a history of alcoholism. Although no consensus opinion exists, it seems reasonable to recommend either the complete suspension of alcohol intake while on treatment or to restrict the use of alcohol to an occasional drink during the course of the treatment.
