Avatar n tn Our daughter was forced to have unsupervised custody last week where she informed us that he was vomiting all evening. I have researched symptoms of alcohol and Tylenol abuse and found possible signs of liver damage. For the concern of my daughter, we are extremely scared on what he is capable of when she see's him. We are hoping anyone who has experience on this could offer us advise.
Avatar m tn This condition, called steatohepatitis, does cause liver damage. Sometimes, inflammation from a fatty liver is linked to alcohol abuse; this is known as alcoholic steatohepatitis. Otherwise the condition is called nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, or NASH.
Avatar n tn While some doctors use it in all people they suspect of having liver disease, others use it only to help explain the cause of other changes or if they suspect alcohol abuse.(!) For example, both ALP and GGT are elevated in disease of the bile ducts and in some liver diseases, but only ALP will be elevated in bone disease. If the GGT level is normal in a person with a high ALP, the cause is most likely bone disease.
362971 tn?1201987034 As I recall from biochemistry, 30 g of alcohol can be detoxified by a healthy liver in 1 hr without obvious intoxication effect (the same effect for which alcohol is consumed in the 1st place). The emphasis should be given to the term of a "healthy" liver. Interestingly, a few studies I read lately suggest that heavier consumption for "healthy" livers is a safe and sound practice... for whatever reasons the think it is appropriate.... This makes me wonder...
Avatar n tn you may not carry the virus but liver damage wont go away overnight - alcohol will cause further damage - down the line a drink or 2 here or there might be ok - alcohol is one of the leading causes of cirrhosis
Avatar f tn t know what you mean you don’t “abuse alcohol like that” you don’t have to be an alcoholic living on the street to have liver damage from alcohol. Some people have trouble with alcohol liver damage with less alcohol then others especially when combined with other health problems. American Dietary Guidelines recommend limiting your alcohol intake to one drink per day for women and two drinks per day for men.
Avatar f tn Becoming free from alcohol is a very doable thing. But remaining free from alcohol takes work. I had to take part in my own recovery and work on myself so I would change. If I don't change nothing changes. Nobody could do that for me. But there are millions of us in recovery all over the world. So freedom for you is out there waiting. Keep your willingness and continue to make the steps in the right direction like you've described in your post. You don't have to be sick anymore.
Avatar n tn How likely are you to die from long term abuse of painkillers and alcohol- say four years worth of this. I started taking Mersyndol and Dolaced tablets with alcohol because I could not sleep and I had headaches. Sometimes I would take up to 30 tables at a time a couple of times a week. I realise codeine in high doses is bad and mixed with alcohol. I have never been to hospital, I dont appear to have yellowing of the skin or eyes.
Avatar m tn The enzymes will revert back to normal range, if the insult to the liver is controlled. So, avoid alcohol and take the medications prescribed by your doctor. And recheck the values after 4 weeks. Was GGT done? Normal value for Glutamyl Ttansferase (GGT) is 8-38. GGT can be used to screen for chronic alcohol abuse (it will be elevated in about 75% of chronic drinkers).
Avatar m tn Take heed and realize that at such a young age your liver is responding to the alcohol abuse. It's awesome that you are addressing the fact before the damage has occurred. Not only will drinking affect your liver, but drugs will also cause distress. The combo will likely exasperate the outcome. At this time your liver will heal if you quit partying. Prolonged abuse on the other hand can/will create problems down the road.
Avatar m tn i used to abuse alcohol heavely which turn my eyes constantly red for about 24 years but i have stopped now going onto eight months, tried eye drops and herbs for my liver but to no avail, a herbalist guy said it was dilated veins due to the alcohol abuse is there any hope for my poor eyes!
Avatar n tn 1. Due to my alcohol abuse could my immune system be negatively effected and not producing enough anti-bodies resulting in a false negative out to 9 months. 2. My lymphocyte count was around 1700 on my CBC a little on the low end of the scale. Would this be any indication that my body isn't functioning correctly? 3. I know IV drug users have sometimes taken longer to sero convert, could this also be the case for long time alcohol abusers? 4.
Avatar n tn Two exceptions to this rule exist. Both cirrhosis and/or alcohol abuse are associated with higher AST levels than ALT levels, often in a ratio of approximately 2:1. From the data you supplied I would suggest that you should be very concerned.
Avatar f tn He has to be taped two to three times a month. A year ago he was given three months to liver. All due from alcohol and drug abuse. His health is deteriorating. He has not been placed on the transplant list. Last hospital stay paper work indicated decompensated liver. My question is how bad is it and life expectancy.
Avatar f tn These guidelines suggest that it can be useful in determining the cause of a high ALP. In persons with a history of alcohol abuse who have completed alcohol treatment, GGT may be used to monitor compliance with the treatment program. ALT (also called alanine aminotransferase or SGPT) is found in the liver only. High levels of ALT in the bloodstream mean that there may be liver inflammation and/or damage. This test cannot predict liver damage or disease progression.
Avatar n tn I used to abuse Adderall. I was taking 10x the prescribed amount with alcohol. I did this probably a dozen times. That was almost a year ago. I just had some bloodwork done and I have high liver enzymes. Could this be linked to Adderall abuse? Thanks.
647554 tn?1227116482 there are people who can abuse 10s of thousands of mg of tylenol and top it off with alcohol and their liver actually becomes like concrete/immune to the whole thing..anf then others show the signs of liver damage...i would keep a check on it and stop whatever i was doing to cause this...u r obviously not immune to liver problems,,does not mean ur enzymes will not come down tho...just means u need to be safe...have u talked to ur doctor?
Avatar f tn You have your diagnosis and is nothing more right now than a fatty liver but to continue alcohol abuse will guarantee you to move on to fibrosis. Your liver function is fine, AST/ALT are well with-in range. Your kidney function is also excellent. Nothing abnormal about the amount of liver cells dying off either. I am curious what the lab result were that prompted the ultra sound.
Avatar n tn Sometimes, inflammation from a fatty liver is linked to alcohol abuse; this is known as alcoholic steatohepatitis. Otherwise the condition is called nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, or NASH. An inflamed liver may become scarred and hardened over time. This condition, called cirrhosis, is serious and often leads to liver failure." What causes fatty liver? Eating excess calories causes fat to build up in the liver.
Avatar m tn even without HCV you could have liver damage that alcohol would bother - but ultimately I would ask your Dr! congrats on finishing your treatment!
Avatar m tn GGT may be caused by liver disease or damage to the bile ducts, they may also be caused by drinking alcohol. GGT is sometimes used to screen for chronic alcohol abuse. TIBC - Total iron binding capacity is a blood test that shows if there is too much or too little iron in the blood. You have a fatty liver disease as diagnosed by the ultrasound. The cause is unknown. People that abuse or overuse alcohol develop fatty livers.
Avatar m tn He has been diagnosed with fatty liver disease and possible stage A cirrhosis due to alcohol abuse. He had an ultrasound and all of his blood work has come back normal two different times. My concern is that he was put on a diuretic for the edema. He lost all of the fluid except for the abdomen. I had noticed his face and arms were getting very thin even when he was so swollen in his lower body and before the diuretic.
