Avatar m tn what are other causes for the pancreas to become inflammed, to the point the pain sent me to the hospital, other than booze as I haven't drank heavily for years and now only have 1 or 2 drinks a month if that. the Doctors are persistant in saying that this is alcohol related but, I haven't had a drink in three weeks prior to this incodent. Please help me to understand!!! This discussion is related to pancreatitius.
Avatar f tn Becoming free from alcohol is a very doable thing. But remaining free from alcohol takes work. I had to take part in my own recovery and work on myself so I would change. If I don't change nothing changes. Nobody could do that for me. But there are millions of us in recovery all over the world. So freedom for you is out there waiting. Keep your willingness and continue to make the steps in the right direction like you've described in your post. You don't have to be sick anymore.
Avatar m tn Wow that is a heavy duty question.......the risk of sudden death and arrythmias due from alcohol abuse are fairly remote however you have to remember that with overdoing it with the alcohol which is a depressive causes your whole system to slow down and depress everything in your body....
Avatar f tn My question is this I have a history of alcohol abuse, it started about 12 years ago when I had my child, I met a guy (who I spent 10 years with), could never get a babysitter so he started bringing beer into the house (only ever drank when I went out prior to this) after a year we were drinking a full bottle of scotch together every night,I had a very highly paid job god only knows how I kept it without being dicovered, after 10 years I left him tried to make a new start abroad it went wrong I
1563920 tn?1299288683 If you look at my past posts, I have been dealing with neurological issues for some time now. I have been very depressed about everything, from having to quit nursing to my inability to work and drive. During this time, I have been turning to alcohol to kind of deal with my problems, not such a good idea, I know!!! It hadn't seemed to be a problem until last night. A group of my friends, including my boyfriend, went out for my birthday.
Avatar n tn as a rule narcs can be stopped much less dangerously than heavy alcohol abuse//physically// cos as a rule there is no risks unless a narc user is old and has heart failure//mentally both r a true bumber//and aftercare for alcohol abuse is almost imperative cos it is everywhere//and drug abuse is not socially acceptable like alcohol is..peeps do not pass out oxys at the bowling alley like they do beers u didnt state what ur abuse issue was/or if there was one at all???..
Avatar n tn Hep C is just one of several things that can damage your liver. At stage three, I'd go very, very easy on the alcohol, as zoom1zoom recommended.
1621722 tn?1333050499 Welcome to the forum. None of us are qualified to give you any sort of diagnosis, especially online. If you're using alcohol as a way to deal with anxiety and depression, you could be heading down a slippery slope. It already sounds as though you need to figure out exactly how bad your "problem" with alcohol is...and the sooner the better, before it gets any worse.
Avatar n tn While some doctors use it in all people they suspect of having liver disease, others use it only to help explain the cause of other changes or if they suspect alcohol abuse.(!) For example, both ALP and GGT are elevated in disease of the bile ducts and in some liver diseases, but only ALP will be elevated in bone disease. If the GGT level is normal in a person with a high ALP, the cause is most likely bone disease.
787406 tn?1339203183 Hi, The causes of polyneuropathy other than Diabetes are- old age, some medications and drugs, such as some chemotherapy drugs, alcohol abuse, AIDS, environmental toxins, and inherited neurological neuropathies. However no underlying cause can be found in a majority of patients. It may be the use of anticancer drugs for thyroid cancer that may have lead to the development of Polyneuropathy for you. Please consult a neurologist for evaluation, diagnosis and treatment. Hope this helps you.
Avatar n tn how much seroquel, xanax, and alcohol causes an overdose. im qworried about my sister, she ha been prescribed xanax for 8 years now at 2mg a day, so her tolerance is well established. she is also an alcoholic. thankfully, she knows not to combine xanax while drinking, but what about the addition of seroquel? could she OD from the pill combination alone? would then the addition of alcohol just pretty much seal her fate?
Avatar f tn Does this mean that dementia is developed due to alcohol abuse? If, so how chronic use of alcohol affect one's cognitive ability and/or impair SNS??? What is the mechanism of this particular type of dementia?? Could anyone please help with my question?
Avatar n tn Our daughter was forced to have unsupervised custody last week where she informed us that he was vomiting all evening. I have researched symptoms of alcohol and Tylenol abuse and found possible signs of liver damage. For the concern of my daughter, we are extremely scared on what he is capable of when she see's him. We are hoping anyone who has experience on this could offer us advise.
Avatar f tn Also, I have been a binge drinker for a long time and since exposure I started drinking heavily. I read that alcohol abuse doesnt affect antibody testing. But can alcohol abuse affect the creation of HIV antigens? Is it possible that drinking a lot causes my body to not create efficient amounts of HIV antigens in a month so the 4th Generation tests doesn't pick it up? (Before antibodies are created). Any input and/or sources would be appreciated!
Avatar m tn Alcohol seriously damages the liver, the central nervous system, the gastrointestinal tract, and the heart as well as severe brain issues. Have you ever heard of "wet brain"? Long term alcohol abuse can cause a retardation effect referred to as wet brain. I've seen it in person and it's not nice...
Avatar f tn Other causes could be due to corneal irritation, lack of sleep, eye strain, caffeine and alcohol intake and sometimes drug abuse. For now life style changes like stopping smoking, avoiding caffeine and alcohol intake and adequate sleep can help prevent your symptoms. For further evaluation consult your primary care physician. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn The causes which need to be ruled out are viral infection, substance abuse, alcohol etc. The drugs like modafinil or methyl phenidate against prescription can help decrease sleepiness during day. Take regular naps during day whenever you get free time. I suggest you to consult sleep specialist. Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn Neurontin is used to treat partial seizures and, also, nerve pain.It causes drowsiness and causes users to become less alert. It should not be taken with opiates due to increased effect. I guess if taken in larger doses it would just make a person tired and stupid. Not what It's intended for... Good luck getting your child away from this...
971443 tn?1282560078 I never used drugs before that period - and I don`t intend to use drugs ever again, I don`t even drink alcohol, but I am wondering could my anxiety have started because of the drug abuse? And - am I at risk of hallucinating again?
Avatar m tn if the xanax is in addition to the alcohol.....then he's really playing with fire here. being a medical student, you should know already how diazepam is used for withdrawal from xanax. this needs to be dr surpervised and the process alone of switching from xanax to valium is a long process...but ultimately at these doses and with alcohol in the mix, perhaps thats the best route? a doctor will know best...but the alcohol needs to be dealt with FIRST...then the xanax.
1255505 tn?1272819115 How many people here have a history of substance abuse? Did it result from or result in any episodes? I abused cannabis off and on from 13 to 20. I abused LSD from 16 to 20. I abused alcohol off and on from 21 to 37. I abused morphine & oxycodone at 40. Yikes! I also tried a few other things, but they never really took hold.
Avatar f tn how can i help my dad getting over his alcohol dont get mw wrong hes been off it for four week now but he keep on taking painkiller everyday and hes not eatting that much as well is there any vitamins or anything that could help him.
Avatar f tn Most liver diseases are characterized by greater ALT elevations than AST elevations except cirrohsis and alcohol abuse. So alcohol abuse is ruled out in your case. Raised alkaline phosphatase is often found in a growing child and at puberty. There are several bone disorders too that can raise this enzyme like rickets, osteomalacia, Paget’s disease of the bone, tumors, metastasis and recent fracture. In your case only alkaline phosphate is raised really high.
Avatar f tn Doctors always say alcohol abuse causing pancreatitis. I have it and never drank. Neither does my gf. As a matter of fact I don't know anyone in my group that got it from drinking.
Avatar n tn What I read on your post describes alcohol withdrawal's physical effects. With alcohol use, it's more about tolerance of certain amounts. What may be a lot for one person isn't or is a lot for another. It's a lot for your husband, from the sounds of it, since he experiences tremors and black outs (not recalling conversations, how he got somewhere, etc.).
