Avatar f tn And opioid drugs like OxyContin, which are widely prescribed to adults for pain relief, are the third-most-popular drugs of abuse for teenagers. Both ADHD medications and OxyContin are easy to find in medicine cabinets and teenagers figure most parents will never notice if one or two pills go missing.
Avatar n tn I am trying to research this substance abuse and would like any information you can direct me to.
1130576 tn?1260150770 Complicating the picture, however, is the fact that a large number of children and adolescents suffering from depression have other associated psychiatric illnesses such as anxiety, disruptive behaviour and drug abuse. The symptoms of depression among this group remain largely the same as in an adult group; however, most of the manifestations due to the illness pertain to adjustment with peers and friends, problems in school, and indifferent or deteriorating scholastic performance.
Avatar f tn Becoming free from alcohol is a very doable thing. But remaining free from alcohol takes work. I had to take part in my own recovery and work on myself so I would change. If I don't change nothing changes. Nobody could do that for me. But there are millions of us in recovery all over the world. So freedom for you is out there waiting. Keep your willingness and continue to make the steps in the right direction like you've described in your post. You don't have to be sick anymore.
Avatar f tn My question is this I have a history of alcohol abuse, it started about 12 years ago when I had my child, I met a guy (who I spent 10 years with), could never get a babysitter so he started bringing beer into the house (only ever drank when I went out prior to this) after a year we were drinking a full bottle of scotch together every night,I had a very highly paid job god only knows how I kept it without being dicovered, after 10 years I left him tried to make a new start abroad it went wrong I
1563920 tn?1299288683 If you look at my past posts, I have been dealing with neurological issues for some time now. I have been very depressed about everything, from having to quit nursing to my inability to work and drive. During this time, I have been turning to alcohol to kind of deal with my problems, not such a good idea, I know!!! It hadn't seemed to be a problem until last night. A group of my friends, including my boyfriend, went out for my birthday.
Avatar m tn The problem with alcohol is that perhaps 20 to 25% of those who drink either have bouts of heavy drinking (binges) or develop more chronic drinking related conditions such as alcohol abuse and alcohol dependence. Alcohol dependence involves a rewiring of the brain's reward circuits and is associated with defects that involve thinking (cognition), emotion, and motivation.
Avatar n tn as a rule narcs can be stopped much less dangerously than heavy alcohol abuse//physically// cos as a rule there is no risks unless a narc user is old and has heart failure//mentally both r a true bumber//and aftercare for alcohol abuse is almost imperative cos it is everywhere//and drug abuse is not socially acceptable like alcohol is..peeps do not pass out oxys at the bowling alley like they do beers u didnt state what ur abuse issue was/or if there was one at all???..
Avatar m tn I am so glad that you have finally come to a realization that alcohol abuse is truly poisonous to your body. It leaches vitamins and nutrients out of you and damages your central nervous system. That is why I always suggest that alcohol detox take place in a hospital under medical supervision. You need to be on medication such as benzodiazapines to prevent seizures and have IV vitamin supplementation, especially thiamine, among others. Please do not take this advise lightly.

362971 tn?1201987034 207 Clearly, for heavy alcohol users, efforts should be undertaken to treat the alcohol abuse and dependence before starting treatment, but treatment is not contraindicated for persons who have an occasional drink of alcohol or who have a history of alcoholism. Although no consensus opinion exists, it seems reasonable to recommend either the complete suspension of alcohol intake while on treatment or to restrict the use of alcohol to an occasional drink during the course of the treatment.
Avatar m tn GGT (Gamma Glutamyl Transferase) can be used to screen for chronic alcohol abuse (it will be elevated in about 75% of chronic drinkers). Sometimes it may be used to monitor for alcohol use and/or abuse in people who are receiving treatment for alcoholism or alcoholic hepatitis." Lab Tests Online http://labtestsonline.
Avatar m tn The GGT test helps to detect liver and bile duct injury both ALP and GGT are elevated in disease of the bile ducts and in some liver diseases, but only ALP will be elevated in bone disease. If the GGT level is normal in a person with a high ALP, the cause is most likely bone disease. GGT can also be used to screen for chronic alcohol abuse (it will be elevated in about 75% of chronic drinkers).
1621722 tn?1333050499 Welcome to the forum. None of us are qualified to give you any sort of diagnosis, especially online. If you're using alcohol as a way to deal with anxiety and depression, you could be heading down a slippery slope. It already sounds as though you need to figure out exactly how bad your "problem" with alcohol is...and the sooner the better, before it gets any worse.
Avatar n tn Diffuse piecemeal necrosis was 4-fold more frequent among alcohol-consuming patients with lipid peroxidation-related antibodies than among those without these antibodies. In conclusion, even moderate alcohol consumption promotes oxidative stress in CHC patients, suggesting a role for oxidative injury in the worsening of CHC evolution by alcohol.
1238606 tn?1304201621 When you are an addict do you tend to abuse any drug you get, I mean anything from excedrin, benadryll. or anything else I can use. I know those don't show up on some drug test. Hey but I am proud of the fact that I actually got rid of the fiorcet after reading some other post about it. I have some awesome teenagers from our church that look up to me and there is no way that I would want to disappoint them. They are precious to me.
Avatar f tn Hello Tasyi and others. For starters I want to say NEVER LET ANYONE TELL YOU WHAT YOU ARE OR ARE NOT CAPABLE OF. GOD PLACES A BABY IN OUR WOMBS FOR A PURPOSE. THOSE WHO SHOULDN'T PARENT, WOULDNT BREED. I had my first daughter at 15, found out I was pregnant in juvi. The people there was telling me to abort it but my family supported. I didn't care who did or who didn't. I stayed in school. Had my baby and kept progressing.
Avatar n tn Although I also suffer from Bio-chemical related depression, mine is not caused by alcohol abuse. It is much more common among individuals that have suffered long term alcoholism. http://www.trans4mind.com/nutrition/depression.
Avatar f tn t know what you mean you don’t “abuse alcohol like that” you don’t have to be an alcoholic living on the street to have liver damage from alcohol. Some people have trouble with alcohol liver damage with less alcohol then others especially when combined with other health problems. American Dietary Guidelines recommend limiting your alcohol intake to one drink per day for women and two drinks per day for men.
Avatar m tn Bad lifestyle choices, like poor nutritional habits, smoking, substance abuse which includes alcohol-sake is a very powerful alcoholic drink!- deplete even more energy from the body. My guess is that you have a candida infection, and that your alcohol is feeding the candida, being one of it's favourite sources of energy for growth. If you feel the need to consume alcohol, it's not just your brain that wants it, it's the candida also that wants it!
Avatar n tn Our daughter was forced to have unsupervised custody last week where she informed us that he was vomiting all evening. I have researched symptoms of alcohol and Tylenol abuse and found possible signs of liver damage. For the concern of my daughter, we are extremely scared on what he is capable of when she see's him. We are hoping anyone who has experience on this could offer us advise.
