215461 tn?1331862765 My son is 6 years old. When he was 1 he caught his first cold which started causing wheezing and he had to go to the ER and was given a nebulizer with albuterol. He has been fine throughout the years except for when he catches a cold. Then he will cough nonstop and has developed croup several times. He always needs a steroid when this happens. Now he has been pretty sick almost since November. It won't go away. He is on albuterol, singulair, and another liquid steroid at the moment.
Avatar n tn you were breathing was probably albuterol, the same medicine used in rescue inhalers, just in liquid form from a machine called a nebulizer. The albuterol opens constricted airways, which is why you couldn't breathe. Asthma is often compared to drowning without water. If you're still having yellow mucus, you probably still have an infection. If you're still having breathing problems, especially at night, ask for a temporary rescue inhaler so you can try to avoid trips to the ER.
Avatar f tn A blood test showed up positive for a small amount of alcohol and there had been no alcohol drank or even in the house. That day a dose of liquid methadone was taken and an albuterol breathing treatment given. Someone told me they thought methadone could metabolize into alcohol in the body, but I've never heard this. How is it possible for alcohol to show up?
Avatar f tn The doctor gave him Albuterol to open up his air passage. He took the medication every night before bed for about a week, until he came to me one night very worried about his heart beating fast (Albuterol side effects). I stopped the medication since then. Now, I'm noticing my son exhaling like a puppy-dog. It first started with just one quick exhale of air. The next couple of days he would make 2 quick exhales. Then now he exhales like that about 4-7 times, like how a puppy-dog breathes!
Avatar f tn does albuterol increase the heart rate in children, because after i gave it to my son i noticed that his heart was beating really hard a fast
Avatar n tn I gave a lot of thought before posting again, because I am sure you are the greastest mom and would never want to endanger your children. This post IS NOT a criticism, or an attempt to make you feel badly. Albuterol is a "last ditch" emergency medication. When you reach for the albuterol you are "reaching for lung reserve". Once that albuterol is ingested, the lung has no more reserve.
Avatar n tn Long-term use comes with serious side effects both for adults and for children, but more serious for children. If you are concerned ask your doctor for effective non-steroidal substitutes. I got off inhales steroids three years ago after suffering health problems caused by it. I now use natural anti-inflammatories plus nebulized albuterol and an anti-histamine.
Avatar f tn Also, it is never a bad idea to have a nebulizer (breathing machine with liquid albuterol sulfate solution) in your home for those days where you can't seem to get relief from your inhaler. Not sure what would be causing the pain, maybe sleeping posture. Maybe stress. Have you had your allergies tested thoroughly?
Avatar n tn I have had this Dreadful cough since November 2004. The last thing they have had me on is Albuterol liquid form that goes into a nebulizer machine. Albuterol only fixes the problem for the moment and has terrible long term effects. Please, please help me. I have been to so many doctors. thank you for your kindness ahead of time.
Avatar n tn Inhaling nicotine from these e-cig devices would be as harmful as albuterol inhalers in fact e-cig might be safer than albuterol inhaler since albuterol frequently causes your lungs to internally bleed. And the only reason our government wants to ban e-cigs is because they're not "tobacco products" and not subject to those extreme tax rates cigarettes receive. It's all about tax revenue, same reason all 'illegal' drugs remain illegal, no taxation. Follow the money.
Avatar m tn For the past week i have been having extreme difficulties with my asthma and no matter what i do or where i go nothing is working, my albuterol solution and iprotrium bromide for the nebulizer, my albuterol sulfate inhaler, anti-allergen medications, even herbal treatments nothing is working at all, i have frequented my doctor he says my lungs sound clear and my oxygen blood level is reading good, however there is a tightness in my left lung and its hard to breathe, im having to use the nebulize
Avatar f tn There could be several things. You could be in a flare meaning that albuterol is less effective and will require multiple times doses before you see improvement. This would be my first course of action. Other options would be acid reflux. Acid reflux is often miss diagnosed as asthma. You should discus this with your doctor if you don't see improvement after a few days of following your rescue inhaler prescriptions directions at maximum dosage (around the clock).
Avatar f tn This season came around and sure enough, when he got a cold it went straight to lungs (wheezing, SOB, coughing) We started inhaled steroid (budesonide), albuterol regimen again. Proved unsuccessful to resolve cough. Round of Orapred proved unsuccessful to resolve cough. After four months we consulted with Pulmonologist. Switched up steriod to inhaled Flovent 44 instead of nebulizer and albuterol qid. No results. Chest x-ray and blood allergy (why not at this point) ordered and clear.
Avatar f tn You don't mention what drugs they are giving her. A lot of patients do well with Coreg and lasix. The Coreg, in the right dose, should help her heart beat more efficiently and stronger, helping to pump the fluid from her lungs, and the lasix would help clear the fluid from her system. Something else that I have had in the past, for CHF, is albuterol. While most doctors don't like to use it with heart patients, it works real well for clearing the lungs.
Avatar n tn Do you really want to be giving your son Pulmicort under any circumstances? It is a corticosteroid with many side effects. For instance it compromises the immune system and weakens bones. For a growing boy that does not sound great. There are natural anti-inflammatories that actually work better than steroids and which do not harm the patient. The albuterol is OK.
Avatar n tn I have two children. My daughter is 2 and my son will be 1 in April. They both have horrible breathing problems. My daughter's breathing started to get nasty around 5 months of age and has been good and bad since. My son's breathing just started recently. They are both on pulmacort and albuterol and my son was just put on predisolone. Nothing is working!! Does anyone have any advice? We are a NON smoking home and would NEVER let anyone near our children with ciggarettes.
Avatar m tn Your symptoms suggest a problem with the lower esophageal sphincter. A little bit of food or liquid gets up and ends up in the trachea causing a laryngospasm or "shortness of breath". The syndrome is often characterized by "difficulty breathing when few drops of water go down the wrong pipe". It's asthma induced by regurgitation of stomach contents.

Avatar n tn A little background info: I'm a 30 year old morbidly obese diabetic (blood sugar well controlled, weight loss steady since 01/09). Smoked for 10 years, quit 11/07. Was thought to have asthma since late teens due to occasional wheezing and shortness of breath. Doc finally sent for PFT, which came back normal. The wheezing seems to get a lot worse when I'm sick, but it's usually manageable. August 12th I got sick with what the doc told me was a common cold...
Avatar n tn Albuterol is a bronchodilator used to treat many of the same issues as Flovent, but it can also be used to treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Albuterol comes in a syrup, tablet, or as a suspension in an inhaler. Albuterol works by causing the passages to the lung to relax and open, which makes breathing easier.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with an exercise induced asthma and prescribed a 90 mcg albuterol inhaler. I didn't use it much as I was fine most of the time. But just recently I have been having to use my inhaler every few hours or so because if I don't I get really short breathed. I don't know what's going on and it's worrying me.
Avatar f tn I was having a hard time breathing 2 nights ago and decided to try my daughters albuterol inhaler. I used 5 puffs over a 24 hour period. I dont know why but I assumed it was harmless to use while pregnant. Now im looking online and see its a class C! Im nervous I may have done harm to baby. Anyone else use albuterol while pregnant first trimester?

Avatar f tn Just wondering if anyone here uses an albuterol inhaler and are they safe to use during pregnancy? I use one every now and then but not on a daily basis. I'm only 5 weeks along. I used mine tonight because I felt like I absolutely had to.
Avatar f tn I have asthma and have been having a hard time breathing these past two days but really bad tonight.. I just used my albuterol and I'm so scared its going to hurt my baby. My Dr told me its better to breathe lol but I'm just being paranoid n worried.. anyone have asthma and used albuterol during pregnancy?
Avatar m tn I have asthma and have to use my albuterol inhaler occasionally. My heart's response to the albuterol is to speed up a bit (maybe 110) for about 15 minutes and then gradually go back to normal. Albuterol is an adrenergic drug and will act like a little boost of adrenalin. As for the tachy bursts that you have, that sounds normal to me but only because my heart does that often. Then again, I do have arrhythmia issues.
Avatar n tn hello my two years old son has an anemia and now is taking ferrous sulfide 3 bottles he took the first bottle already so befor e the 2 blood test due date he had an allergy asme coughing so his taking liquid ventolin albuterol, and ceron for cough and prednisolone orapred, its ben already 4 days and now i can see under his eyes bruises like sometimes reddish sometimes blue and dark specially at nights.
