Avatar n tn I have emphysema. i use advair twice a day and spiriva one a day. The biggest problem for me is that I always seem to havemucus build up in the mornings. My doctor has told me to try mucinex, but that doesn't seem to work all the time. So i try using albuterol in the morning to help loosen up the mucus so that I can breath better.
1300043 tn?1272812819 I have also been diagnosed with COPD and I am using my albuterol inhaler about 6 times a day along with Spiriva and another steroid inhaler so using it once a day or twice a month sounds like your basic Asthma. I understand the confusion in changes to your health. I posted a few weeks ago for help here and never even got a response so I am dealing with it all on my own. Good luck with everything. And you may want to just go get a check up to be sure.
Avatar n tn The best way to slow progression is smoking cessation. The rate of loss of lung tissue in COPD is roughly 3 times as fast for smokers as it is for those who quit. Good luck.
1086884 tn?1328640455 Grocery shopping has gotten to be a chore. I take spiriva, albuterol, and ipratroplum bromide and albuterol sulfate combination but my chest is still tight with chest pain. Is there anything else I can do or will it contine to get worse?
Avatar f tn If you do indeed have “severe COPD” as the 30% FEV1 range would suggest, the actual change in volume of the FEV1 is probably small but exaggerated by expressing it as a per cent. I must agree, however, that a fall from 47% to 32% is a pretty large drop. With that I would also be concerned about the accuracy of your measurement device. You might want to ask your doctor’s staff to check this out. Try not to be alarmed by numbers.
Avatar f tn Spiriva is an anticholenergic used to treat various forms of COPD, but rarely asthma. The primary function of these medications is to reduce mucous in the respiratory system. They do have a mild broncho-dilating affect. I have not used Spiriva so I am unsure of its dosage, but I have taken ipratropium which is in the same class. As a neb solution it lasts 6 hours and as an MDI it last 4 hours. Check your prescription for dosing on this medication.
Avatar n tn have copd use albuterol inhaler musinx drink plenty of water but still short of breath and no mucus comes up
Avatar n tn I was told by my doc that Combivent just has an additional allergy medicine in it, in addition to the albuterol. It shouldn't hurt you, I wouldn't think. I have allergies also and this inhaler worked great for me.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with COPD in 2000. I quite smoking in 1986 after smoking for 30 years. I am currently on the following medications: Oxygen 2.0 liters as needed, albuterol sulfate in a nebulizer 4 times a day, albuterol 90mcg oral inhaler 2 puffs 4 times a day, theophylline 200 mg sa tabs...one tab twice a day, titropium 18mg inhal cap once a day. My question is: Is there anything else I can take to help my condition?
Avatar f tn One of the first things I noticed in my research to learn more about COPD, is that people who have a diagnosis of COPD at such an early age commonly have Alpha 1-antitrypsin deficiency--whether they are smokers or not. Is that something I should be considering? Should I ask about being tested for this?
Avatar n tn In April of 2008 I was supposedly diagnosed with COPD..I say supposedly, because the pulmonologist is a friend of my sisters and she wants me to quit smoking. He has not put me on any medication and sometimes I wonder if he did not tell me that to scare me in to stopping.I have smoked heavily 2-3 packs a day, for 17 years.I have systemic lupus eurythmatoses.I recently have developed some concerning symptoms.I have a horrible, dry, hacking cough and I cough of a lot of clear phlegm and/or liquid.
Avatar n tn I have wet macular degeneration as well as COPD and my ophthamalogist theorizes that the weird "blisters" that are appearing at the site of the oozing veins may be caused by the steroid content of my asthma medication ( namely Spiriva). So he has asked me to change to something that doesn't contain any steroids. My pulmonologist has suggested I add floridil to my albuterol nebulizer.
Avatar f tn there are nebulized meds like combivent and COPD meds that may help and have less side effects there seem to be some new neublized COPD meds that I saw at the doctor's office
Avatar n tn If no improvement after inhaler, then usually there is no asthma component, the higher the improvement, the higher the asthma component. Some people are allergic to the ingredients in albuterol, this may be a possibility, therefore causing more labored breathing. Did you have a CT scan? With COPD, staying away from anyone with a cold is imperative and cleansing hands constantly and wiping down grocery carts, etc. Keep pushing until you get answers.
Avatar n tn How often can I safely use the albuterol? Will this get better over time? How in the heck can I afford this medicine with no insurance? I am scared to death of not being able to breathe. I have more horses to trim this week and I don't know if I should wait another week for my lungs to heal a little more? Any advice would be great. Thanks!
Avatar n tn I was recently diagnosed with COPD. I am using oxygen in addition to a Nebulizer four times per day. The oxygen is very helpful, but the use of the Nebulizer has made me feel worse. I develop a very rapid heart rate with the first use of the day along with extreme weakness. I don't feel well all day because I can't recover from the pounding heart rate and weakness before another session with Nebulizer is due. The two medications used in the Nebulizer are: Xopenx 1.
Avatar n tn Did the prednisone inflate the results, thus arguing reversibility of the obstruction? and does this rule out copd? Is it possible to have copd with normal lung function? If not copd, what is going on with the chest x-ray? Do I need to be concerned about the clips protruding into the hilum area? I appreciate any insight you can give.
Avatar n tn I'm a 44-year old female, with asthmatic allergic response to cats since childhood. I smoked off and on from 18-39, about 5 pack-years. I've lived near a cat (outdoors with access to my husband's study) for 18 years, and have treated my asthma with albuterol, adding ventolin when necessary. About 12 weeks ago I caught bronchitis, then wildfires broke out near my home that made the air unhealthy for about 2 weeks. This provoked a severe asthma attack -- for three weeks.
1507301 tn?1289936394 what does underlyning copd is this the early stages or what diagnosed june 2010 affter having pnemonia and fluid on the lung I am in full time employment still smoke but really trying to give up the doctors gave me 3 inhalers and that was that nobody has explained I am reading a lot on the furum and getting frightned please can someone explain
Avatar n tn The albuterol inhaler will break up the mucus. There are other asmthmatic meds you can use in the inhaler. The use of prednisone while you have an infection is controversial. I know they use it. The problem is that the prednisone sometimes makes the infections go out of control. Make sure you take vitamin D3. Use an expectorant and observe the color of the sputem. As long as it is yellowish you have an infection. Make a daily log of the color. Many physicians never ask to see the sputem.
Avatar n tn My Mom has mild/medium COPD. As a result she is very prone to bronchitis, which in turn ushers in long periods of painful and scary coughing. Often, she cannot breathe during a coughing fit. She takes the prescribed medicines (Codeine, Albuterol, etc.), but still has frequent coughing episodes. Many years ago, she knew a physician on your staff who taught patients how to sit down, breathe, etc. in a way that would stop or prevent a violent coughing episode.
Avatar f tn Weizs48, I am in the very same boat as you. I was diagnosed with moderate COPD in Oct. 07. At the time of diagnosis, me and my husband did have health insurance. Then, due to the rotten economy, my husband lost his long time job and our health insurance. So, since March 08 I have been winging it attempting to manage my COPD, without the benefit of health insurance. Personally I totally agree with allmymarbles. For 6 mths. after diagnosis, I did have insurance.
2074233 tn?1337641615 I am a 53 year old female with copd. I have already been on antibiotics twice this year and i am coughing up so much phlegm now it's making me weak all over. I take advair, am trying the new drug dailiresp, 1mg. of klonipen and wellbutrin {even tho i have not smoked in two years}. I have applied for disability and according to the pulmonologist my fev1 is 0.97 and my diffusing capacity 9.1. Those are 35% and 38% of predicted respectively.
Avatar f tn I was recently diagnosed with early copd. Since I do not have health insurance, i go to a clinic. The physician's assistant has prescribed singular for my copd, I don't feel that it is helping me very much. I mostly have shortness of breath & coughing in the evening. This disease frightens me because I don't feel I am getting the right medical advice. I asked about simbicor & spiriva and was told that those meds are for later stages of copd.
Avatar f tn Sinusitis, chronic bronchitis then COPD. All because doctors refused to treat the sinusitis. Because of this I can't afford the meds that are the staple of COPD treatment. But it did lead me into an alternative that works better and with less side effects. Benadryl works on the same principle as does ipratropium but I have never been told to use it. I can't tolerate Advair (causes angina) nor Albuterol (causes worse congestion and coughing).
Avatar f tn Hi I have COPD, on oxygen 24/7 (3 1/4 ltrs), bypap at night. I take Advair 50/500, an albuterol breathing treatment 2-4 times per day, I was on Spiriva until this past two weeks. My bladder was acting like I had bladder infections(there was no infection, just all the symptoms and pain of one)..went to a urologist. Dr said my bladder wasn't emptying....after checking, this bladder problem is a side effect of Spiriva...
Avatar m tn is this the one and only mediacation, since there are no genericand here in the united states unlike the rest of the world which has a free market, we are controlled by the drug industry.
Avatar f tn Usually the first line of treatment (if you have asthma or COPD) is an albuterol inhaler. If you are, or have been, a smoker you may have COPD. So go to a pulmonary MD and check it out. I would not waste my time with a primary care MD.
