Avatar f tn t think they do either, so with that said, in my situation CHF was characterized with extreme swelling in my lower body, starting at liver level. If I cut myself anywhere below the liver, I didn't usually bleed, but the area simply weeped with a clear fluid, and took a very long time to heal. I noticed having great difficulty with walking, or standing, and my energy level was extremely low. Every step felt like I was trying to move several pounds of sands(my legs).
Avatar n tn This has not actually been diagnosed as asthma, but he takes singulair and albuterol prn. It tends to be seasonal or related to air quality. Additionally, blood pressure has been in the 140's/80's. So not extremely high. He also takes weight lifting supplements (no steroids). The PMD did an EKG to be sure and found something needing further testing (did not say what). We then saw a cardiologist and the repeat EKG showed possible hypertrophy and/or enlarged heart.
Avatar n tn re suffering with CHF. There is a treatment they can do to help clear your lungs. The medication is Albuterol, and it's administered within a breathing treatment. They don't like to use it, but sometimes the benefit outweigh the risk, and this is one of those times. It takes about 20 minutes, but it works quite well to restore breathing, and it dries the fluids in the lungs. The lasix would be a great medication for followup, after the Albuterol.
Avatar f tn You don't mention what drugs they are giving her. A lot of patients do well with Coreg and lasix. The Coreg, in the right dose, should help her heart beat more efficiently and stronger, helping to pump the fluid from her lungs, and the lasix would help clear the fluid from her system. Something else that I have had in the past, for CHF, is albuterol. While most doctors don't like to use it with heart patients, it works real well for clearing the lungs.
Avatar m tn That could be physical, such as vocal cord nodules or cord paralysis, although the latter would also cause difficulty with inspiration. A cord problem could also be non-physical; that is a functional disorder that results in your cords closing inappropriately. You should ask your doctors if pulmonary function tests showed any obstruction to airflow. You should request direct examination of your vocal cords by a doctor trained in the use of what is called a fiberoptic laryngoscope.
Avatar f tn As a CHF patient, I of course weight daily. Was just recently put on Lasix in past week because of problems with fluid in lungs, and have been taking it religiously every day. My weight is the same, but I can't take as deep of a breath as yesterday, I'm slightly wheezing, and I can feel fluid come out of my throat with every little cough. This feels exactly how it felt when I was first diagnosed with CHF a month ago.
435139 tn?1255460391 even walking from one room to another is a huge toll on me...I read that albuterol is a class C drug and has not been studied in pregnancy in humans...in animals is is linked to cleft palate defects and other defects too! Since I am in the 2ww I am not sure if I took my albuterol in my nebulizer if I'd be risking my potential babies health. I'll call my pharmacist or dr. in a couple hours but it is only 5 a.m. and I won't be able to call until 9...when they open.
369861 tn?1306275686 When the output of your heart drops below 30%, you are in trouble and your body is working so hard to keep up that you are in a very real danger of a heart attack, stroke, or respiratory failure... If all of this is just because of being overweight, it is reversible...Also, if you haven't, have a glucose tolerance test done to check for diabetes...This would contribute to the problems that you are enduring...Good luck...
1648674 tn?1308696316 Yes, an autopsy would show fluids in the lung tissues. Also, the lung and heart have a normal size and weight, and an autopsy would weigh the organs and an over weight of the organ would indicate fluids in the lungs. Also, the left ventricle would have oversized heart walls, etc. Also, if necessary the heart vessels can be inspected for any plaque buildup and the advancement of the disease...
Avatar f tn Hi there. very odd thing. COPD/ASTHMA/RA/ just to name a few. Breathing has gotten much worse, on lasix for large water retention. Dr says it's not really CHF, but more due to my lungs. **when I cry hard (been grieving off/on for a few years due to many losses) or scream (like at a sports game) I get severe electric shocks in my back (lung area), arms/legs, feeling of almost passing out. it only happens when I expel too much air. my home spirometer shows a 250-275 on blow out.
Avatar f tn Other than that it can be due to pinched cervical spinal nerves, clot in a blood vessel, localized dermatitis or even dandruff. Peripheral neuropathy as in diabetes too could be a cause. Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral. Hope this helps. Do let me know if there is any thing else and keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar n tn Albuterol is a bronchodilator used to treat many of the same issues as Flovent, but it can also be used to treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Albuterol comes in a syrup, tablet, or as a suspension in an inhaler. Albuterol works by causing the passages to the lung to relax and open, which makes breathing easier.
Avatar f tn t believe it would say right then and there a patient is in CHF. A patient with CHF has the symptoms of the disease and tests such as a BNP would diagnose that. People aren't in CHF 24/7 ; they have periods where they go into CHF; there are times when a patient who has been diagnosed with CHF may be doing well.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with an exercise induced asthma and prescribed a 90 mcg albuterol inhaler. I didn't use it much as I was fine most of the time. But just recently I have been having to use my inhaler every few hours or so because if I don't I get really short breathed. I don't know what's going on and it's worrying me.
Avatar f tn My dr had me on albuterol in the 1st tri of my last preg...I couldn't breathe and used it for a week. No harm to baby.

Avatar f tn I have asthma and have been having a hard time breathing these past two days but really bad tonight.. I just used my albuterol and I'm so scared its going to hurt my baby. My Dr told me its better to breathe lol but I'm just being paranoid n worried.. anyone have asthma and used albuterol during pregnancy?
1132705 tn?1260482521 I am wondering if you think we will see more patients in the future getting filtration-type treatments for their CHF? As a Telemetry RN in an acute care facility, I see frequent admissions and then subsequent readmissions (over and over) for exacerbation of CHF. Our hospital has core measures that we follow on every CHF patient in order to ensure an Echo has been done within the past 6 mos and if warrented a Rx for an ACE inhibitor.
Avatar n tn She still coughs up crud a few times a day. Even before the chf she was having brief spasms in her shoulders and front legs about once a week. Over 4 years that progressed to now having spasms of her entire trunk about a hundred times day and losing control of her legs and dropping to the floor at least a dozen times a day. Lowering her head down to take a drink brings on both symptoms. Trying to fall asleep increases the body spasms.
1754037 tn?1327886811 So far ultrasounds say my little man is still healthy. I was never advised by my ob/gyn to not take the albuterol. In my opinion even if there is a risk using albuterol it wouldn't be a big one or OB's would not allow so many pregnant women to use them. Also the risk of not using it could be so much worse. It is important that you are able to breathe so your baby develops properly. You should ask your Ob about the steriod for sure. hope this helped.
587778 tn?1261397118 3 weeks ago my 16 year old daughter had a bad reaction to the fumes that her art supplies produced. She was treated for asthma in the ER and sent home with an albuterol inhaler and prednisone. Within a few days, she was hospitalized due to a severe reaction to the prednisone and albuterol. She will never be able to take any medication with a steroid. Since then, she has had exercise and cold induced attacks.
Avatar n tn Thus, when an asthmatic attack is precipatated after the albuterol, you are in a 911 situation and the time between an attack and death from respiratory arrest and death can sometimes be measured in minutes. "More albuterol" won't work. Your son will need intravenous medications and likly endotracheal intubation. There are alternative medications that still alow for the albuterol to be "held in reserve".
Avatar n tn I was told by my doc that Combivent just has an additional allergy medicine in it, in addition to the albuterol. It shouldn't hurt you, I wouldn't think. I have allergies also and this inhaler worked great for me.
Avatar f tn Just wondering if anyone here uses an albuterol inhaler and are they safe to use during pregnancy? I use one every now and then but not on a daily basis. I'm only 5 weeks along. I used mine tonight because I felt like I absolutely had to.
