Avatar n tn I am not aware of any over the counter or natural remedies at the this moment but will look into it. the problem is that ithis is a mild inflammatory condition of the lungs (asthma), so it needs to be treated accordingly. The problem you have is also know as "Exercise induced Asthma" but we like to record it as "Exercise induced Bronchospasm" because many patients do not want the word asthma in their charts.
Avatar n tn Should I be concerned? She supposedly has exercise induced asthma although I dont believe this was properly tested for diagnosis. Is this something she could be using to get a high off of? Can it be a cause for the phone calls I have been getting about her being sick at school, headaches, nausia, vomiting?
Avatar n tn There's a difference between "exercise induced asthma" (EIA) and asthma. I know, I'm a college wrestler and I have both. And yes, I was prescribed albuterol as a prevention medicine before every practice and every match. If you read the prescribing info for albuterol, you'll see very clearly that it is both a rescue medicine AND a preventative treatment for EIA.
Avatar n tn Hi and Welcome, Not being a Dr it's hard to answer. If exercise induced asthma perhaps the pro-air is helping before you exercise .. not really sure. Maybe a different type of dual inhaler may work better w/o side effects ... just my two cents Welcome!
Avatar f tn Albuterol is not a steroid, and will not affect your weight. There are some inhaled medications specifically for exercise induced asthma. You may want to see your pulmonologist (if you haven't already) to be sure that you are being treated absolutely optimally. Good for you for working out!
Avatar m tn I was wondering if anyone has experienced or heard of what I call "conversation-induced" asthma? I have seen a bit of information on laughter-induced asthma and suffer from exercise-induced asthma but can't find anything about asthma that comes on from simple talking. I usually begin to feel chest tightness and hoarseness if I am talking for more than 5-10 minutes. I begin producing mucous and albuterol does offer some relief.
Avatar f tn Broncho-constriction is a symptom of asthma. It sounds like you may have exercise induced asthma. Another posibility is a reactive airway disease. That is really more of a collection of lung conditions where the lungs are too reactive to harmless substances. It is important to rule out other reactive airway issues to get the propper treatment. There are other conditions that cause broncho-constriction besides asthma.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with an exercise induced asthma and prescribed a 90 mcg albuterol inhaler. I didn't use it much as I was fine most of the time. But just recently I have been having to use my inhaler every few hours or so because if I don't I get really short breathed. I don't know what's going on and it's worrying me.
Avatar n tn It sound like you suffer from E.I.B. (Exercise induced bronchospasm). One of the main symptoms is "Unusual Fatigue with Exercise" which can last minutes or up to many hours afterwords. Basically, the lungs are not getting the amount of air needed to feed the muscles the oxygen they need. Most people with asthma have this, but many without asthma suffer from this as well. The good news is, that if this is the problem, it is easy to "fix".
587778 tn?1261397118 3 weeks ago my 16 year old daughter had a bad reaction to the fumes that her art supplies produced. She was treated for asthma in the ER and sent home with an albuterol inhaler and prednisone. Within a few days, she was hospitalized due to a severe reaction to the prednisone and albuterol. She will never be able to take any medication with a steroid. Since then, she has had exercise and cold induced attacks.
Avatar f tn It is important to remember that these are all resting values and that you might have a significant component of exercise induced asthma. You may need either a formal exercise study using a treadmill or an informal exercise study to be listened to, for wheezes and to demonstrate exercise induced bronchospasm. It is surprising that your breathing didn't improve with the Advair™ Diskus® (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) Inhalation Powder.
1754037 tn?1327886811 I do not have severe asthma it's exercise induced but certain things trigger mine to make it severe. Before getting pregnant with my first son I was on two inhalers albuterol as needed and once a day I took a pulmicort inhaler(steriod). When I found out I was pregnant I did get off the pulmicort but stayed on the albuterol(only needed it once or twice a day). My son came out healthy and is now a healthy 4yr old.
Avatar f tn Could it be a series of infections? Sinus, maybe? Have you tested her for bacterial infections or done a T-cell count to check her immune system?
Avatar m tn Hi, welcome to the forum, your symptoms are suggestive of Exercise-induced bronchoconstriction. There may be underlying bronchial asthma or chronic bronchitis. Chronic bronchitis usually presents with sputum (mucus), symptoms can be worsened by chest infections. A test with bronchodilators for 2-3 weeks will be useful to relieve the symptoms. Respiratory function tests before and after exercise is required.
454286 tn?1205883067 Still coughing all these months, new pediatrician was diagnosed with Asthma in December. His asthma is also exercise induced. Saw pulmonologist and gave him Flow Vent and Albuterol inhalers , along with Decadron when the flare ups occurred and Croup. Saw another new doctor because son was not getting better. Same peds office new doctor but was really ill...lots of phlegm etc, she gave him a Zpak + nebulizer with Albuterol solution. We did that nothing changed.
Avatar n tn I am reading through it and it is rather interesting because I was diagnosed with exercise-induced asthma several years ago. I had a pulmonary function test which showed normal results so my doctor just determined that the exercise was what was causing the symptoms and gave me an albuterol inhaler to use. Also, I have hypothyroidism which I take medication for daily. Before being diagnosed I had shortness of breath and chest pain at 25 years old!
Avatar m tn My thoughts also included the possibility of cough variant asthma and/or exercise induced asthma. If either of these are the case, salbutamol would be indicated for treatment. I would however suggest that you become more agressive with allergy treatment.
Avatar f tn d see your doctor and let them know you are having exercise induced asthma problems. May I ask what controller asthma meds are? (Inhaler & pills, aside from albuterol or levalbuterol.) Prednisone should be a last resort anymore. Leukotriene inhibitors such as montelukast (Singulair), and Advair (diskus or HFA inhaler) are better choices for controller medications. There's other options, too, I'm just mentioning the two I use.
Avatar n tn While an enlarged heart may be due to years of weightlifting, HCM is now known to be found in 1/500 and most of us with HCM have been diagnosed incorrectly as having exercise induced asthma. HCM is the # 1 leading cause of Sudden Cardiac Death among young athletes.
Avatar f tn Been diagnosed with non allergic rhinitis, feline dander, housedust etc allergies. Also diagnosed with excercise induced asthma in the 90's. About a month ago wheezing. Doctor has me on 50mcg fluticasone/salmeterol powder am and pm,plus albuterol every 4 hrs. I haven't been using rescue every 4 hrs. When I talk I start coughing and choking and have to spit. What is going on with treatment?
Avatar m tn I've never had any trouble ever with breathing issues but have suffered from just basic pollen allergies. As of last week I've begun exercising again consisting of jogs and walks. Now I am constantly taking bigger pig like breaths through my nose and feel a slight build up in my throat. I'm not sure if it's allergy related and what it could be. I was afraid it was exercise induced asthma but other than the breathing issue I have no other symptons or pains.
Avatar n tn The first day we did sprints and I almost passed out. I called the doc and they said it may be exercise induced asthma, gave me an albuterol inhaler and asmanex 220mcg 2x day. It really didn't help too much. I kept up the exercise programs and was very very tired but ok enough to continue; however, trimming horses kept getting worse--with or without the albuterol inhaler. I let the asmanex run out after 30 days.
Avatar n tn s triggers. I have allergies, which trigger my asthma (exercise is also triggers it). I take both allergy and asthma medication down here, which makes for a much happier choo_choo. In AZ I was in some sort of denial which made for a (needlessly) unhappy choo_choo and frustrated doctors because I would not use my asthma medication unless I thought I was about to die.
