Avatar m tn As of November 2009, 23,731 HIV/AIDS cases have been reported in the country (National HIV/AIDS Program of the Ministry of Health). The Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) estimates that in 2007, 35,000 Salvadorans were living with HIV (UNAIDS 2008 Report on the Global AIDS Epidemic). Incidence appears to have declined since 2004, but there is a fear that HIV/AIDS cases are underreported due to lack of an effective monitoring system.
Avatar n tn The 3rd Generation Antibody tests are being used before year 2000, so why the window period has been reduced from that time compared to now? So there has also been evolution in these 3rd Generation Kits, or they have been same since that time. Thanks.
Avatar m tn Hello, everybody the expert!I'm from China。About AIDS window period in our country a variety of views! How many weeks to detect negative can completely eliminate the AIDS infection?AIDS window period is how long?
Avatar n tn The window period lasts 4 to 6 weeks but occasionally up to 3 months after HIV exposure. Persons at high risk who initially test negative should be retested 3 months after exposure to confirm results. http://www.cdc.gov/globalaids/Resources/pmtct-care/docs/TM/Module_6TM.
Avatar n tn As blood was extracted they were accidentally pricked with the needle of a patient who has the aids virus. PEP was used minutes after and the friend has confided in me. I dont know what to say as they are so loving and caring to patients now they are fearful. I dont work in that field and dont know what to say while they await results. I can see the fear in my friends eyes, please help me walk them through this as we remain hopeful.

Avatar m tn Hi, diver58 Thank you for your support during my stressful period. I tested twice, and my 2nd ELISA testing in 180 days report is non reactive.
Avatar m tn I think there is a lot of doubt over the 3 window period because some reputable Aids organisation are not sure as well. Every organisation is not saying 3 months definite. The problem here is that you could still be infected and pass this virus onto your partner and all that would be said is that probably he/she tested within the window period and did not say the truth about last exposure.
Avatar f tn I just found out about 12 years ago my mate was unfaithful and i have gotten tested recently with an third generation eia antibody test hiv1/2 with reflexes, a rapid blood test, 4 oraquick home tests and all came back negative. But ive read ur post that some people with aids antibodies wont show on those tests. Im very scared that im in that stage and the tests i took arent sufficient enough to know for sure.

Avatar n tn Can you elaborate a little on your comment Teak? I'm not too sure I understand how being outside the window period is going to improve the tests accuracy. I've been trying to research on how (if) testing outside the window period (say 1 year +) will actually improve test accuracy. Thanks!
