Does anyone know what to take for an alternative to Aggrenox? I had a TIA almost 4 years ago and was put on Aggrenox, well, my husband will be losing his job in a week due to the economy which also means we will be losing our health insurance as well. I asked my doctor if he could take me off it and put me on something else and all he said was he would prefer I stayed on Aggrenox. I don't think we can afford it because it is $305 for a month supply!

Aggrenox does have aspirin in it. It is recommended for strokes, as you already know. I'm not sure why the Dr has taken away the Aggrenox. Maybe he feels that taking aspirin is equivalent with less side effects? Aspirin does work well to help prevent stokes and heart attacks. So, there was no reason given for the change?

I was put on Aggrenox/Aspirin after my stroke about 2 months ago. Does anyone on the same treatment take any kind of Vitamins/Herbs with this medication?

Hi Linda, The lupus anticoagulants usually interfere with blood clotting and are also factors for thrombosis. Patients with a lupus anticoagulant are prone to excess bleeding, repeated miscarriages, thrombosis and strokes. Patients with a lupus anticoagulant that presents atleast twice and a history of thrombosis should be given indefinite treatment with anticoagulants. Thrombosis can be prevented with heparin administration and treated with heparin and warfarin.

Does anyone take vitamins/herbs with aggrenox and aspirin?

any thoughts? Should I be afraid of cardio exercise? should I have LDL aphreses? NOw on Aggrenox and off Effient but on all the other same meds Additional info: Since Jan, I quit smoking, lost 45 lbs, lowered LDL by 300 points (to 127) and raised HDL by 25 pts(to 40) lowered triglic to 70. what the heck?

I've found that Aggrenox seems to work without side effects. It's primarily baby aspirin, but also contains a drug that prevents platelets from sticking together. I've taken it twice a day since my stroke, and it appears to work, but who ever knows?

to Mayo and with all saying the same its still not sinking into this head... there is no fix... He has been sent home on a blood thinner (aggrenox) as to not thin the blood to much... With a healthy heart pumping against a 20% opening (when last tested)... So at night he is on oxgen to slow down the heart at night, for the heart pumps harder as ones breathing slows as we sleep... We live 30 mins from the closest hospital which isn't set up to handle this so life fight is another step...

I take 16 or 17 medications including the all inclusive plavix. a 3.25 aspiriin. AGGRENOX,Zocor,and a host of others.I watch my diet and exercise until it hurts to prove to my Dr. that I'm not just lying around. With your "scientific ' MINDS can you help?

In June '08 I was sitting watching TV when my left side from my head down to my leg became stiff and numb. Went to the ER and checked by 5 neuronogists, had scans, MRI & other tests. Their consensus was a brain event in the rt. thalemus. For 2 & 1/2 yrs I was living with a 5 out of 10 sensation but last Dec. '10 as I was having dinner, the sensation became worse like an 8 out of 10 and I'm having increased trouble moving my whole left side.

you MUST contact your prescribing dr to get approval to stop this medication. Aggrenox, Plavix, and Aspirin must be discontinued for 7 days prior to injection and Ticlid 14 days prior to injection. I went through a very similiar situation with my father 12 years ago, but we found out about it because he had a stroke. He was 100% blocked on the right hand side and 95% blocked on the left hand side. Like your father, his arteries in the back are also blocked at about 80%. I remember the surgeon said that the arteries in the back of the neck carry a 20% mortality rate in order for them to be repaired. They put him on medication to control the situation.

About 1-1/2 months ago he started experiencing mild itching on his legs and has now become chronic all over his body. Most of his meds have rash and itching side effects. Aggrenox was just changed to Plavix, but the itching has not stopped. 325mg of aspirin is also a future consideration as a blood thinner. He was given Ativan 0.5mg two days ago to stop the itching. The first night he practically scratched two wholes in his paralyzed arm.

I had infectious endocarditis (symptoms mimicked congestive heart failure) at 47 at MVP which has since calcified and since unknown source, had major anitbiotics covering every possibility for 2 months through a PIC line (vanc, gent, and 2 others) which resulted in kidney failure and creatinine now close to normal.

He tried Plavix(was allergic) and Aggrenox which increased the headache frequency. We are just at a loss with his current neurologist and feel he is at a loss of what to do. We are seeing a new neurologist on Thursday with the hopes of finding something that will help. As far as the sleep apnea, I will hopefully get him convinced to try something new as I realize the CPAP is of great importance. Just looking for any kind of suggestions of what to try.

Thanks for your feedback. To my first responder I had a clot with no bleed and to the second I'm on aggrenox twice a day. I've definitely become more aware of hydration and make a more consciouse effort to stay hydrated. I went to see my neurololgist and hemotologist this past Friday and they both are referring me to a Cardiologist. Trying to find out why to prevent another.

2022 My co-authors and I have recently completed and posted our third (and I think our best) paper on thyroid. It is posted on a thyroid patient advocacy site in the UK. The paper explains from a patient's perspective why the current standard of care for hypothyroidism is ineffective for the majority of cases, and why it needs so badly to be changed. I think hypothyroid patients will find it very useful for discussion with doctors when trying to get effective diagnosis and treatment.

I was wondering if anyone out there may have or have had the same condition and what the general prognosis may be for recovery. I am currently taking AGGRENOX, ZOCOR, B12 COMPLEXI, FISH OIL. I do strength training every other day and cardio training on the other days. BP is a little high 145/75. Heart rate 55-60. Any feedback would b e greatly appreciated.
