Does anyone know what to take for an alternative to Aggrenox? I had a TIA almost 4 years ago and was put on Aggrenox, well, my husband will be losing his job in a week due to the economy which also means we will be losing our health insurance as well. I asked my doctor if he could take me off it and put me on something else and all he said was he would prefer I stayed on Aggrenox. I don't think we can afford it because it is $305 for a month supply!
Aggrenox does have aspirin in it. It is recommended for strokes, as you already know. I'm not sure why the Dr has taken away the Aggrenox. Maybe he feels that taking aspirin is equivalent with less side effects? Aspirin does work well to help prevent stokes and heart attacks. So, there was no reason given for the change?
I was put on Aggrenox/Aspirin after my stroke about 2 months ago. Does anyone on the same treatment take any kind of Vitamins/Herbs with this medication?
I've found that Aggrenox seems to work without side effects. It's primarily baby aspirin, but also contains a drug that prevents platelets from sticking together. I've taken it twice a day since my stroke, and it appears to work, but who ever knows?
Has anyone out there ever had to receive more then general and/or local anesthesia? I read that sometimes, so the patient does not cough or move during surgery, there will be a tube put down their thoat to be put on a breathing machine. This scares me - if anyone has had this done or know why its necessary or the pros & cons, please reply.
please if anyone here has ever been put under anesthesia please tell me how it felt when you woke up. nausea, upset stomach, tired, ect.
Some months ago I had an anesthesia for a gastroscopy. There were usde the following neuroleptics: propofol, midazolam and fentanyl. I slept for about 2 hours and as soon as I woke up I was abnormally acting like a drunk. That being ended up in a couple of hours but unfortunately some symptoms and problems remained.

to Mayo and with all saying the same its still not sinking into this head... there is no fix... He has been sent home on a blood thinner (aggrenox) as to not thin the blood to much... With a healthy heart pumping against a 20% opening (when last tested)... So at night he is on oxgen to slow down the heart at night, for the heart pumps harder as ones breathing slows as we sleep... We live 30 mins from the closest hospital which isn't set up to handle this so life fight is another step...
I take 16 or 17 medications including the all inclusive plavix. a 3.25 aspiriin. AGGRENOX,Zocor,and a host of others.I watch my diet and exercise until it hurts to prove to my Dr. that I'm not just lying around. With your "scientific ' MINDS can you help?
In June '08 I was sitting watching TV when my left side from my head down to my leg became stiff and numb. Went to the ER and checked by 5 neuronogists, had scans, MRI & other tests. Their consensus was a brain event in the rt. thalemus. For 2 & 1/2 yrs I was living with a 5 out of 10 sensation but last Dec. '10 as I was having dinner, the sensation became worse like an 8 out of 10 and I'm having increased trouble moving my whole left side.
colonoscopy withoout anesthesia? I am a male and going to be 58 shortly but I have never had a colonoscopy. Of course my health care provider is strongly recommending me getting one. The only way I will consider getting one is if I can without any anesthesia. My reasoning is first of all i don't want my wife or anyone waiting on me while the procedure is taking place. The thing that scares me more than anything is the anesthesia. I am super sensitive to drugs, I will have nearly violent adverse reactions to even the lowest doses. I cannot even take aspirin. Benzodiazepines are out of the question. What is the gentlest anesthesia? I know people always say be sure to tell your doctor about your sensitivities, but in my case it doesn't do any good because most doctors cannot appreciate the unusual sensitivities that I have.
you MUST contact your prescribing dr to get approval to stop this medication. Aggrenox, Plavix, and Aspirin must be discontinued for 7 days prior to injection and Ticlid 14 days prior to injection. Coumadin should be discontinued 3-4 days prior to injection and you will need to have blood work completed within 24 hours prior to procedure.
drink 1-2 full cups water 60 minutes prior to injection. eat a LIGHT meal.
The orthopedic surgeon mentioned that the most likely anesthesia would be an epidural rather than a general anesthesia. There is little information on epidurals online. Is it given directly into the spine, like the spinal they sometimes give during labor? Someone told me that, for knee surgeries, the epidural is actually given below the spinal cord and there is no risk of injury to the spinal cord.
About 1-1/2 months ago he started experiencing mild itching on his legs and has now become chronic all over his body. Most of his meds have rash and itching side effects. Aggrenox was just changed to Plavix, but the itching has not stopped. 325mg of aspirin is also a future consideration as a blood thinner. He was given Ativan 0.5mg two days ago to stop the itching. The first night he practically scratched two wholes in his paralyzed arm.
