Anti-platelet drugs like Aspirin or Plavix do not play much of a role in preventing venous clots. However, in persons with the lupus anticoagulant, the risk of recurrence of both arterial and venous thrombotic episodes is very high. Some patients may need to be on long-term oral anticoagulation. Some may need to be on anticoagulation for the whole life.
Avatar f tn I am not sure if her physician would be agreeable to try a simple 81 mg baby aspirin with her. Plavix is another blood thinner that is prescribed also.
Avatar f tn I am hoping to talk to my doctor soon about this and I heard about Plavix being the best bet, so will see what my doctor says. I have had some bleeding problems since being on Aggrenox, even had blood in my urine. Had 2 more urine tests that showed no blood in the urine, so I was thinking maybe the Aggrenox was causing this. We still haven't figured out why there was blood in the urine because I had a Cystoscopy and ultrasound of kidneys and everything turned out fine.
Avatar f tn The only thing you have to worry about is not taking Vitamin K especially because it causes blood clotting while on aggrenox. The other natural blood thinners include vitamin E, garlic, onions, and vitamin C because they also thin blood. That's why doctors tell you not to take these vitamins before an operation. My mother had a stroke about 5 months ago and we are considering opening the blood thinning aggrenox capsules and giving her half the dosages with applesause.
Avatar n tn to Mayo and with all saying the same its still not sinking into this head... there is no fix... He has been sent home on a blood thinner (aggrenox) as to not thin the blood to much... With a healthy heart pumping against a 20% opening (when last tested)... So at night he is on oxgen to slow down the heart at night, for the heart pumps harder as ones breathing slows as we sleep... We live 30 mins from the closest hospital which isn't set up to handle this so life fight is another step...
Avatar n tn Aggrenox does have aspirin in it. It is recommended for strokes, as you already know. I'm not sure why the Dr has taken away the Aggrenox. Maybe he feels that taking aspirin is equivalent with less side effects? Aspirin does work well to help prevent stokes and heart attacks. So, there was no reason given for the change?
Avatar n tn the office where you are to have the procedure done should have given you a list of things that you cannot take. you really should call them and ask....tell them what medications you are taking....and also ask what else you cant take. i had the ESI's on my lower back and was given a paper...but dont know if the same rules apply to you or not... here is whats on my paper.... avoid taking NSAIDS....such as aspirin, ibuprofen, motrin, naprosyn, relafen, daypro, advil, aleve, B.C.
Avatar f tn Aggrenox was just changed to Plavix, but the itching has not stopped. 325mg of aspirin is also a future consideration as a blood thinner. He was given Ativan 0.5mg two days ago to stop the itching. The first night he practically scratched two wholes in his paralyzed arm. More than anything, he was knocked-out, groggy til 3pm the next day and could not do his physical therapy. He is restless at night, but I don't understand the Ativan. This is not helping his state of mind either.
Avatar n tn Does anyone take vitamins/herbs with aggrenox and aspirin?
Avatar n tn Kidney functions are in normal range. Three days ago I coughed up a small amount of blood when on a blood thinner. I am off the blood thinner and no more blood has appeared. I am a little fatigued most of time. What should I need to do?
Avatar f tn His conclusion was that I needed one blood thinner, and the best for stents is obviously the plavix and so that one was chosen. After stopping the aspirin things settled down a lot.
Avatar f tn t personally dealt with it but a close friend had to give herself blood thinner shots in her belly throughout her whole pregnancy. Her doctor decided that a scheduled c-section was the best choice for her so that they could be in control of the situation. She hated it but she did want she had to do for the pregnancy.
Avatar n tn This had to wait a week because of my week condition from other injuries. The last surgeon would not put me on blood thinner because he was concerned about internal bleeding. He did install an IVS filter because a blood clot had already started in one leg. Fast forward 6 weeks and still no blood thinner even tho I was non-weight bearing, immobile and inactive. I used a slide board to transfer from bed to wheelchair to commode. One morning both of my legs were swelled a lot. I called Dr.
1029058 tn?1253539152 I have no idea what you mean by "thick" blood, well, yes, blood anticoagulants are often referred to as "blood thinners" I believe they do not in any way thin the blood, they change the ability of the blood to coagulate, the blood is otherwise unchanged. One may have deep veins or thicker skin, and that may make it harder to "draw" blood for a test... but I think the problem is not "thick blood".
Avatar n tn I was just dignosed with a ASA which is associated with a PFO (patent foramen ovale) went to a neurologist and cardiologist and they both agreed that the only treatment at this point is blood thinner and aspirin i was told to take Aggrenox twice a day and a adult aspirin as well they found out about this because i have had 2 TIA's 1st one 2009 second one in 2010 but other than that i have never had any other symptoms nevertheless i used to get migranes a headaches all the time when i was yo

Avatar f tn I had a successful ablation on july 19, 2010 and only took blood thinner for the first 90 days following the ablation while my heart was healing.. I do take an 81 mg asprin daily. Im 69 so figure theyd want me to take it even with out an ablation. Hope this helps some. Never had a pace maker. I had the darn afib for 13 years and was shocked back into regular rhythm numerous times... It sure is nice to be back to normal now.. Im so glad I had the ablation... no pvcs no afib now ...
Avatar f tn re on a blood thinner like warfarin for some reason, they may aim for 2.0 - 3.0. In some cases where clotting is a real problem they may push it up to 2.5 to 3.5. Does that help? Do you have a heart or clotting disorder? Work with your doctor on that. They can control it but you'd have to be monitored regularly.
Avatar m tn The surgeon did not order blood thinner as medication, and when we asked about Xarelto (blood thinner) from nurses, they told that blood thinner was not in list of her medications. Her doctor would have been able to see patient only on Tuesday. On Tuesday, August 21, mother suffered very severe pain in her abdomen, and the condition became critical, she was taken to the ER, and emergency surgery was performed.
Avatar m tn I have heard that the drug Lamictal is also a Blood Thinner, was wondering if there is any truth behind that. Thanks for help.
Avatar f tn She has had 2 in the past year and has taken a blood thinner to shrink them. Her leg is getting sore again, and she is wondering if there is another blood clot forming and if it could be caused from the chemo. Thank you for taking the time to read and answer my questions. I appreciate it!!!
