Avatar n tn Will a patient see significant improvement on their PFT test after taking medication for a period of time. This was my orginal PFT test three weeks after having pneumonia and the second set of tests were performed two months afterwards. Do most people with COPD see this much of an improvement on their later PFT results or is there a possibility that maybe what I have is more asthma seen COPD? These were the results of my first test FVC ref 3.51 pre 2.74 78% post 3.
Avatar n tn I played sports heavily all my life, high school varsity football 3 year letterman in Ohio, 13 years of baseball, the works, and I never had breathing problems really, except walking pneumonia during my senior football season. Its been about 2 and a half years and about six months ago my breathing became very difficult, my lungs felt tight, I coughed up brown chunky phlegm, and felt low on energy, like i don't have enough oxygen or something. I smoked about half a pack a day.
Avatar n tn and a lack of air movement in my lower left lung. She diagnosed me with community acquired pneumonia. I was prescribed Robitussin with codeine to help me sleep, although all it really did was tire me slightly. After another week of feeling completely miserable I started to breath better, my nose dried out, and my cough produced less and less green mucus. Sleeping then was hard, but I was able to take my meds, settle down, sleep for about two hours, wake up again from coughing and repeat.
2074233 tn?1337641615 I am a 53 year old female with copd. I have already been on antibiotics twice this year and i am coughing up so much phlegm now it's making me weak all over. I take advair, am trying the new drug dailiresp, 1mg. of klonipen and wellbutrin {even tho i have not smoked in two years}. I have applied for disability and according to the pulmonologist my fev1 is 0.97 and my diffusing capacity 9.1. Those are 35% and 38% of predicted respectively.
1232362 tn?1333135406 I have asthma, was diaged w/pneumonia & double ear inf 10 days ago. Not resp. to Avalox & prednisone which I'm finishing. Avatar f tn about a month and 1/2 before i got pregnant i had severe respitory problems with pneumonia and was hospitalized for a week. so after my discharge at hosp my treatments were breathing machine with 2 medications in it...high doses of steroids(prednisone) for weeks..inhaler and advair. shortly after i went off the steroids i felt great. so i was just using my puff inhaler and advair. then a couple weeks later i find out i am pregnant so i stop the advair (category c ). i know stupid.
Avatar n tn I have emphysema. i use advair twice a day and spiriva one a day. The biggest problem for me is that I always seem to havemucus build up in the mornings. My doctor has told me to try mucinex, but that doesn't seem to work all the time. So i try using albuterol in the morning to help loosen up the mucus so that I can breath better.
Avatar m tn it is still here. I have used nasocort and advair for awhile...What is it that I have? I cannot understand what it is called since it always happens in the colder weather, and always seems to be triggered by a draft on the left side of my head...Summer is my only good time of year...Help?
Avatar n tn This usually is more apparent when he is lying down on his right side specifically. He has had a chest x-ray, and was told there is no pneumonia. He has been on advair for about 3 weeks now (twice daily), and started on prednisone five days ago (60mg day 1, 55mg day 2, 50mg day 3, etc..), and has not has had any improvement. When he coughs, it sounds like he is going to cough up a lung. He is not and has never been a smoker.
Avatar f tn DO I ALSO NEED TO BE TAKING SYMBICORT OR ADVAIR? WHAT CAN I DO TO TRY TO MANAGE MY COPD BESIDES QUIT SMOKING WHICH I HAVE CUT DOWN TO A HALF A PACK A DAY. WHICH IS ALL THAT I CAN ACCOMPLISH NOW. WHAT CAN I BE DOING TO BETTER CONTROL MY BREATHING WITH WHAT I HAVE ON HAND?
Avatar f tn My guess would be if it is day 5 without the inhalers, then they should be out of your system. I too had problems with Advair and Spiriva. I was diagnosed in Oct. 07 with moderate COPD. Was put on Advair, Spiriva and ProAir as my rescue inhaler. After being on the Advair and Spiriva for several months, I began to become ill. Spent the sickest winter of my life, while on these inhalers. Bronchitis, pneumonia and pleurisy that was so painful for 3 months. I was doing okay before the inhalers.
Avatar f tn i had pneumonia when my son was born. he now 11 yrs old. and my doc says that the pneumonia left me with asthmatic bronchitis. i usually only have problems when i get sick. As of present i am wheezing and on prednisone. this has been goin on for about 6-8 wks. the wheezing i mean. i am not sick. i don't have a cold or anything, and i just don't understand this. i have been trying to educate myself with all the info i can on asthma and allergies. i just underwent allergy testing.
Avatar n tn Many infections, including pneumonia, can cause inflammation of the airways of the lungs. Even after the infection has cleared, it is possible for the inflammation to linger. This inflammation can last a couple of weeks. Sometimes this inflammation may linger for 3 to 6 months. The inflammation will eventually go away on it own. However using a long-term control medicine, like Advair, Diskus (fluticasone/salmeterol), should help clear it away quicker.
372680 tn?1228161610 Hi, everyone. For those that don't know or don't remember, I'm treebranches and I have idiopathic small fiber peripheral neuropathy (about ten years in limbo). I've been on Lyrica for a while now and it's a miracle drug, allowing me to reclaim my life.
Avatar m tn He was diagnosed with HIV, and Pneumocystis pneumonia having caught both diseases while on the job. I did some research on PCP and see that mainly AIDS patients have this disease. Both of my parents died of HIV after I was first born. My dad caught HIV through blood transfusion before blood was tested, he first had leukemia. I was told that I did not have HIV or AIDS and had nothing to worry about. I even did an anonymous at home HIV test last year as I was curious.
Avatar n tn I have been suffering from something similar to that where I had shortness of breath and wheezing along with white flem that would come up chunks and sometimes yellow, the doctor dismissed that though[the yellow chunks] and put me on predinsone and advair. Two years later I still have it. He diagnosed me with isidnophyliac pneumonia and said it should get better but it hasn't yet.
Avatar n tn He says my oxygen level drops rapidly when I exert myself, over when I am resting, and my breathing sounds terrible, even though I have never smoked, and I take 2 inhalers,Advair and Pro-Air daily. He wanted me to go on oxygen at home, and the breathing treatment at home daily. I told him I wanted to get a second opinion. I think a light should be run down my lungs and see what is going on with them, and if I have scarring tissue or infection what is causing this, and how do I get rid of it.
Avatar f tn I went in 2 days ago wanting a referral to a pulmonologist and the Dr said he wants to try advair for a week first. So my son is currently on Advair and Singulair and Ventolin as needed. Nothing is changing. He went to practice last night and couldn't even make it through the stretches. He coughs all day. No coughing when he is asleep. He was healthy and active until 3 weeks ago! He has even been running some 5k's with no troubles. Any ideas?
Avatar f tn It was clear - no clots and no pneumonia. The doctor said that just because my test was fine I could still have asthma. So they gave me an inhaler of Albuterol (sp?) and sent me home. I used that a couple times the next day. It would help open up my airways for about 5 minutes and then I would be short of breath again and unable to take a deep breath. I called the doctors office and they gave me another inhaler of Advair.
Avatar n tn If biopsies, cultures by washings are done does it show up as an infiltrate and inflammation 5 days later on ct scan. My daughter had a ct scan and it showed to have pleural fluid, and ? pneumonia in right lobe and scarring in left lobe. The pulmonologist states this test is not to be trusted as it was done 5 days after bronchoscopy. The bronchoscopy showed bronchomalacia in both bronchs and significant inflammation. The pulmonologist does not feel this is asthma related.
Avatar n tn t easily be removed (stuffy) and causes more mucous. You end up creating this vicious circle that way and that is what causes the pneumonia, ear infections and sinus infections with asthma attacks because it's all the same system. Think of our airways like an Interstate Highway... when it gets filled with cars what happens? When you encounter a back-up you need to relieve the pressure of the congestion and the inflammation.
Avatar m tn After hearing my symptoms, he decided that I had the virus that causes Walking Pneumonia and gave me some medicine. A week later, I was getting worse. I was having very labored breathing (with tightness in my chest). A 2nd trip was made to ambulatory care to see the same doctor. I got a chest x-ray, which showed some cloudiness across both lobes. He said that I had Walking Pneumonia and gave me different medicine. 6 days later, I woke up at 4AM gasping for air.
Avatar f tn and he put me on Advair Diskus 500/50 for 2 weeks, then will have a PFT to see if there is any permanent lung damage, as I was a smoker for over 30 years, but did successfully quit over 5 months ago.Have almost finished the Advair, and see no improvement in these symptoms.Getting very frustrated due to the fact this is interfering with my life everyday.Any suggestions?? One specialist I saw saqid that if the PFT tests come back inconclusive he will send me to an Eye,Nose, and Throat specialist.
Avatar n tn Humira and other medications used to treat autoimmune forms of arthritis do weaken your immune system. Your doctor should have given you a flu shot and pneumonia shot before starting you on this medication. Things you can do to reduce the chances of getting sick are fairly standard, wash your hands frequently, eat right, get plenty of sleep and try to reduce yor exposure.
Avatar f tn CAT Scan was clear, not even a sign on pneumonia. Same with chest xray. So they are still leaning towards an allergy of some kind. Pulmonary specialist give me Advair and tells me to use it with my inhaler. Neither of those are helping and I hate how I feel on the Advair, so I stopped it. The other - Maxair does absolutely nothing to relieve the asthma either. We just moved from a house that had possible mold in it.
Avatar m tn m not sure COPD can be caused by Pneumonia, but it can definitely go the other way (COPD can put a person at risk for pneumonia). And it all started with a "cold" in June. :( I'm sorry hun. But it sounds like COPD.
500943 tn?1210113003 I have lung nodules to and had pneumonia over a year ago and now i have respiratory problems that has put me on oxygen, but my pulmonologist has just tested me for rheumatoid arthritis because it affects the lungs to and my vocal chords are not working right either and could be the arthritis so you might want to get it checked.
