Common Questions and Answers about Advair in pregnancy

advair

Avatar f tn My ob took me off advair. She said the effects are not know so there fore it's not safe in pregnancy. I only use my ventolin rescue and prednisone when I have an attack. My asthma is very bad but I have been getting by without the advair. Maybe you should talk to your ob. No controller inhaler is safe during pregnancy.
Avatar m tn Afterthought. In place of Advair I use natural anti-inflammatories and mucolytics. Works well and no side effects.
1987536 tn?1337916244 their daily affair treatment plus albuterol as needed? The reality is that I have had allergic rhinitis during the whole pregnancy, I am 18 weeksand the last two days have been horrible w my breathing. So, I used my rescue nebulizer yesterday and today with albuterol. I feel much better, but curiosity intrigued me and I started Googling about the risks of not taking meds vs taking the meds and they both blow.
Avatar m tn coughing phlegm from lungs for the past six months, have taken antibiotics with no results, did take predrisone together with SPIRIVA 18 mcg and ADVAIR 500/50 for the past month. Still coughing up phlegm and have limited lung capacity. Any suggestions comments.
Avatar f tn I was just wondering if anyone knows about asthma treatment during pregnancy. I am a 24 yr old who is looking to get pregnant and have come off my advair and singlair but am now taking my albuterol MDI several times a day. I don't know if there is something other than the advair that I can take or If I should just go back on it.
370736 tn?1247242917 I have asthma and use inhaler (long acting and short acting) and Singulair. My pulmonary doc and OB said they're fine to use in pregnancy. I have been using my inhaler a lot more during pregnancy and I'm pretty sure it's because we are now breathing for 2 and our blood flow (which carries oxygen) is going for 2.
Avatar f tn Taylor is 1 year old now and as far as I can tell she is perfect. I also was on advair throughout my whole pregnancy. They told me it was very important to keep taking the meds because if I was short of breath, the baby was short of breath. I understand how you feel. Hang in there!
178698 tn?1228774338 t see the OB doc until I am further along in this pregnancy. Currently I am just about 6 weeks. I also take Advair diskus which is category C. In any event a couple years ago my OB said all asthma medications are fine to take during pregnancy. I told this to the PA and she did end up giving me a script. So I am taking Singulair and Advair and occassionally Proair. I realize there are risks with all medicines during pregnancy , but asthma is very common.
Avatar n tn Having been on Advair for one year, I now have "frogs" in throat which causes me - a singer - to lose my voice when singing low notes. The Advair was discontinued and I am now on Symbicort which, I am afraid, is causing the same problem. Is there a simple "home remedy" for this problem? Thank you.
Avatar n tn About advair i read in mens health june that advair is one of 8 drugs doctors would not take themself. It said it could make your asthma deadly. The FDA taged advair with a black box warning the agencys highest caution level.New strategy,no matter what you may have heard,aLABA,such as the one in Advair,is not your only option.mild asthma,an inhaled corticosteroid such as flovent is often all you need.
Avatar n tn Since Advair does contain an LABA, it was included in the warning. They are safe when used in combination with inhaled steroids as in Advair and other combination meds. Another contributing factor to the warning is that many people try to use combination meds like Advair as a rescue medication. The LABA takes far too long to take effect to use for that purpose. You need a fast acting rescue inhaler. Here is a link to a doctor's interpretation of the warning. http://okallergy.
Avatar f tn I have been cautious about creating any sort of quick, drastic, pressure change in my mouth but now, I wonder about the use of my Advair diskus. I take Advair on a regular basis for asthma and have refrained from using it in the 24 hours post-extraction because I figured the quick inhalation may dislodge the clots. Now, however, it has been two days post-extraction, and I wonder whether it is safe to use Advair without risk of dislodging the clots.
Avatar f tn Steroids are often worse than the disease it treats. Advair almost killed me. By the way, steroids harm your immune system. And - reputable doctors are no long using Adviar 500. And in Februrary the FDA came out with a warning about Advair. They said it should only be used when nothing else worked and, even then, it should only be used short term. Maybe you need another doctor.
1625877 tn?1299344991 advair may cause your adrenal glands to become lazy - adrenal glands important for many functions throughout your body - when you stop taking your advair your adrenal glands are unable to keep up with your body's needs - which leads to many problems/symptoms and can be deathly.
Avatar n tn I have had several problems with advair such as thrush and irregular heart beat. Also, my endocrinologist suggested that my osteopinia (sp?) could be related to advair use but it's just one possible culprit. I'm a runner and just finished a marathon and got thrush again from advair so decided I wanted to at least take a break from it. Well, it's been a few days and I have never had such breathing problems before I used advair, I have a constant headache and I'm exhausted.
Avatar m tn I was given Advair and Singulair for an allergy problem that was causing asthma symptoms. I had used Advair in the past with no side effects. I lost my sense of smell and taste almost immediately. I could only taste sweet and salty, and could not smell at all. I stopped taking both of the new drugs and got on the internet to find answers. When I saw that others had lost smell and taste with Advair I contacted my doctor and pharmacist.
Avatar n tn i've had asthma for a long period of time, and i was taking advair to treat it. I had it under control to the point where i didnt need to take advair anymore but recently ive been having the symptoms again, so ive started back taking the advair that was prescribed to me when i first got it. is that ok?
Avatar n tn how do I prevent a yeast infection from advair This discussion is related to thrush from Advair.
Avatar n tn It is also possible that some of the symptoms you describe, such as headache, shakes, racing heart, were caused by the other ingredient in Advair® HFA (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) called Serevent® (salmeterol). Many of the symptoms you describe occur with panic attacks and are relieved by leading a healthy life style. If that alone doesn't control the panic attacks, there is good, effective medicine for treatment of panic and you should request it from your doctor.
1679876 tn?1304743615 Advair has 2 medications in it. Most likely it's the salmeterol that could trigger some quick heart beats since the other med is a steroid. I use albuterol for my asthma and it does cause my heart to beat more quickly for about 10 minutes. Then it eases off but it's quite normal for that particular medication. As for interactions, when you got your Advair, didn't the pharmacist go over the instructions and potential problems with you?
Avatar f tn While it is known that high doses, much higher than Advair™ Diskus® (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) Inhalation Powder 500/50, of long-acting bronchodilator medicines, such as the Serevent® (salmeterol) in Advair™ Diskus® (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) Inhalation Powder, can cause abnormal heart rhythms, this is rare.
1232362 tn?1333135406 I can not explain your swollen feet. However I wish to warn you about Advair. In February the FDA warned that Advair should not be used unless nothing else works, and even then it should only be used short-term. I have suffered serious side effects from Advair (it almost killed me). I stopped using it and substituted natural anti-inflammatories, which were more effective and had no side effects.
Avatar f tn They said that I likely have asthma and prescribed me with Advair 100/50 for a year. During the one month that I took Advair I was concerned about drug dependency, side effects, high costs of the drug ($180 per month), and the necessity for it since I have NEVER had an asthma attack. During the month of using Advair, I noticed my shortness of breath a little less than before, but the difference was so mild that I couldn't really tell if Advair was making a difference or not.
