Hi my dosage of advair has been 100/50 for years. Several months ago, I noticed asthma symptoms returning. I saw my pulmonary doc last week and he upped advair to 250/50. How long should it take until I see a noticeable change? Also I have been having a dry cough, which I read can be a side effect of advair. Should that go away eventually?
That might depend on what dosage you are on. The lower dosage shouldn't show up at all while the highest dose may show up with trace amounts. At any of the dosages the amount of steroid you are getting is so small and the medicine goes directly where it is needed that very little if any can make it into your blood streem.
I assume you are wanting to know for sports reasons, there would be absolutely no issue with Advair on an employment test. Asthma steroids are corticosteroids.
As for your teeth and mouth, your doctor should have given you instructions to rinse or brush your teeth after using the Advair, otherwise it can eat through the enamel and also cause sores and sensitivity in your mouth. i've had asthma for a long period of time, and i was taking advair to treat it. While both steroids are in the same class of steroids, cortiscosteroids, the dosage in Advair is DRASTICALLY smaller than what you would get taking oral corticosteroids. Advair's steroid is some thing like 100 mcg that is a a 1/10,000TH of a gram, where as taking oral steroids you usuallt take at leat 10 mg. The oral dose is roughly 100 times larger than the inhaled does.
He has always had large size pupils. The other night his pupils were pulsing from large to regular size. He is also getting over a cold at this time. I know for a fact that he doesnt do drugs, so it couldnt be that. He did have seizures when he was around 2 they lasted for about 4 months, then went away as suddenly as they started, doctors had no clue what the cause was. Have you started tapering down your dosage per your doctor's instructions? Just make sure you are not adjusting dosage or quitting it without talking to your doctor first; just ensure you follow his/her instructions. Doing it on your own can cause many unpleasant symptoms that you would not really have to endure if you take it as prescribed.
I have had ashma all my life last year I started having a few bad attacks this time of year , this last few days my chest has been very tight walking upstairs I can't breathe and I am getting pain in my back and under ribs, I am a dance teacher so work is hard with this , last night I was only giving instructions and loosing my breath bad, do I need to see a doctor as it hasn't reached an attach is this a start of one ?
You may need a higher level than you are on right now. Can you clarify your instructions? The information that comes with Advair says not to take it more that twice a day. It works best if those doses are taken 12 hours apart.
What did you not like about the Advair? Heart rate issues? Shaking? That is common, but does subside after consistent use for about a week. Symbicort is another option for you. It really made me shake for about 3 - 4 days when I tried it.

I am supposed to take advair 250/50 twice a day. I have not been taking it because it is so expensive. I took it the last couple of days because I was having a hard time with fatigue. I take an oral steroid - 8.5 mg per day - supplemented by ceretide(similar to advair) 500 - 2 puffs in the morn and 1 at night - and budesonide 160 micrograms - 2 puffs once a day. The thing with oral steroids is that the get absorbed in the body and have been adversely affecting me. I need to get off it, but every time I try to reduce the dosage my asthma tends to get worse. I have been on it for close to three weeks and I now have a constantly hoarse voice. I have followed the instructions and rinse my mouth after each use, I have gargled with various throat medicines and mouth wash, I have sucked on hard candy to produce excess saliva etc and nothing works. I am a stage actor and singer as well as receptionist for the company I am with and this has seriously interfered with my work. I also take Asmol, but this doesn't have any side effects.
I'm experiencing multiple disturbing symptoms which I suspect are related to Advair Diskus use. For disclosure, I DID NOT follow usage instructions (due to being uninsured and broke) and stretched out use to over a month and a half, using only once a day most of the time -also partially due to the fact that it makes me puke. I used it several months ago for the 1st time and quit after it almost ran out. I quit using it this (2cnd) time about 6 days ago.
He probably will increase your dosage but never do this on your own, follow his instructions. They normally will start you out on a low dosage, see if it helps, and if not they either increase it or switch medications. Always work closely with your doctor on your medications. Take care.
I never experienced those symptoms while on Advair and I used Advair for many many years. After reading your comments I am stopping Dulera and going back to Advair, it worked better and I trust it better than Dulera. Another thing I have noticed is the Dulera applicator will fail to deliver the medication, I will have to try it over and over again and in the meant time, the counter of the application continues to count each activation even though it fails to deliver the medication.
I stopped the steroids and the condition resolved itself. Stop the steroids if you can. I was using Advair for COPD. There were many bad side effects. But I found that I actually got better results using natural remedies. No side effects. If COPD is your problem look to natural alternatives.
