Common Questions and Answers about Advair and weight gain patients

advair

Avatar f tn I have had trouble maintaining my weight since menopause. I lose weight very easily now. Over the last couple of years I have had a CT, MRI, and all sorts of bloodwork. My doctor is convinced it is just one of those things. Said she has a handful of patients that have the same thing after menopause. I take effexor for hot flashes, cholesterol medication and advair. I can't imagine any of them making me lose weight so easily. I was never heavy, but watched what I ate.
1679876 tn?1304743615 I have been given Advair to take for my copd, but one side effect is fast and irregular heart beat, chest pain and increased BP----I take Metoprolol succ er for my PSVT--- -Will the Advair Diskus work against my metoprolol meds? I am alllergic to Penasylin, tetrocycoline, decadron, dyphahidromine, and benedril. My other meds I take are: zolof, welbrutrin, seroquel xr, gabapentine, tizanidine hcl and pravastatin sodium----will there be any adverse reactions to any of these meds?
Avatar m tn I have moderate to advanced copd and take both advair and spriva. My hep doc didn't see any problem with it For me it came down to a choice of whether or not I wanted to stay of the oxygen tank.
Avatar f tn Yes..Advair is horrible for you. It brings your immune system way down. If you can go without it, I suggest you do so. I have meneire's diseases and I believe it was caused by the advair. My sister is on the Advair and has a constant sore throat but she can't breath very well without it. She could breath better before she was on advair. At first, you feel great on Advair. After a few months, for a lot of people, your health is worse.
Avatar f tn I have a hypothyroid, had surgery to remove the right side of my thyroid in august and am on Synthroid 75mcg. I have gained so much weight the last couple of years (about 20 last year) and am at my largest weight (160lbs. and 5'4"). Has anyone experienced this and will the weight just start to fall off? I know it won't come off all on it's own, but I figured once my body got regulated I would lose some weight. Any advice? Thanks!
Avatar f tn I was just wondering if anyone knows about asthma treatment during pregnancy. I am a 24 yr old who is looking to get pregnant and have come off my advair and singlair but am now taking my albuterol MDI several times a day. I don't know if there is something other than the advair that I can take or If I should just go back on it.
Avatar f tn You can seriously go from thin to fat taking this medication, although not all patients experience this and the weight gain amount can vary from patient to patient. I would seriously talk to your prescribing physician about other options if you are experiencing weight gain in regards to this medication. As sekaiend stated, the weight doesn't come off easy either.
Avatar n tn It is hard to be sure about my answer to your question and that is because your having had pneumonia is a complicating factor. That is to say that while you may have experienced clinical recovery, 3 weeks before the first test, your lungs may still have been in a recovery phase and thus, may not yet have functionally reached baseline. In other words the two test results are not comparable.
Avatar f tn The loss-gain equation is entirely mechanical and mathematical and I don't care WHAT Jenny Craig says. If the amount of energy going IN is MORE than the amount expended -you gain; if the amount going in is LESS than that expended, you lose. Period. Does Celexa cause your burn rate to slow down? Maybe.
Avatar n tn I actually feel ok now, as I was having a lot of trouble with fatigue. However, my weight fluctuates terribly, and have a lot of bloating and now I am suffering with enlarged and tender breasts. I eat a healthy vegetarian diet so why am I having trouble with losing weight.. Is there any supplements or anything I can do to speed up my metabolism?
Avatar n tn I read some articles about this just yesterday and was surprised, for I take Lantus and have noticed no weight gain at all. So this could be a factor. However, a change in metabolism in middle age probably is the real culprit, along with possibly a slower metabolism because you are not eating. Exercise should help both problems. Start walking! Park your car further from the door, take stairs instead of elevators, etc. Or use your lunch hour to do some mild exercise right in your office.
Avatar n tn Some doctors put their patients on set doses or sliding scales for their mealtime insulin and this also leads to weight gain. I recommend the book Using Insulin by John Walsh which teaches you to use insulin:carb ratios. However that is a lot of weight gain and being that heavy makes diabetes hard to manage. Have you had your thyroid checked to see if that is contributing to your weight gain? If not, you should do so.
Avatar f tn Make sure they test for Free T3 and Free T4, not Total T3 and Total T4. Most serum T3 and T4 is bound to protein and thus not biologically active. Only the small portion of thyroid hormone that is free of protein is biologically active. So, you need to know Free T3 and Free T4.
757137 tn?1347196453 A one-way trip to a slab. (The normal dosage is between two and four drops a week, depending on weight. Somewhat more is needed for hypothyroidism.) And as for the over-indulgence in vitamin C, it is pathetic. The body can only utilize about 500 mg. a day. I thank you for your information. I am afraid the FDA did not go far enough. Inflammation is not the only problem.
Avatar f tn Blood pressure meds, as well as statins, can and do cause weight gain in some patients. It IS very common, especially when taking both.
Avatar m tn Weight gain can be related to a number of things, of course, diet and exercise being two that are very important, along with metabolism. Obviously there is always some things we can do to improve our diet and the amount of exercise we get, but if your metabolism is too low because of low thyroid hormone levels then it becomes very difficult to lose weight and maintain the loss.
Avatar f tn I myself at 31 weeks started out overweight and my dr. Didnt want me to gain weight. So far i have only gained 6lbs and hope to gain maybe 1 lb a week from here on out. But definately ask your dr. Some drs. Are picky about their patients and have personal preference.
Avatar n tn One could give these meds to HIV and Cancer patients to gain weight, in fact, I think they do. So, we as patients who sometimes suffer from body dysmorphia should be informed of any possibility of weight gain because feelings of frustration and humiliation from weight gain is a real factor in our depression! I am now on cymbalta and have gained 3 lbs in 2 days. I hope it's only constipation because I don't know how healthy it is to be gaining so much weight so quickly.
659496 tn?1288885852 I am in the same boat.. but I am 29weeks (at last appt.) and i went up 6lbs instead of 2lbs like i nomally do..so thats a total of 27lbs for me soo far :0( lol but im happy.. I just cant wait to meet my lil man... like soon!!!
Avatar n tn it seems like advair is making my asthma worse. i started taking advair like 7 month ago and it seemed like for the first few months it was working but i had to become dependant on it everyday or else i would start weezing nonstop. after that my weezing was worst than ever and i started noticing that after i used advair my weezing was much worse. i saw this thread yesterday and now for a day and a half i havent used it and i feel alot better.
Avatar n tn Several months ago, I noticed asthma symptoms returning. I saw my pulmonary doc last week and he upped advair to 250/50. How long should it take until I see a noticeable change? Also I have been having a dry cough, which I read can be a side effect of advair. Should that go away eventually?
Avatar n tn Sabrina, yes paxil, like all the other ssri's can cause weight gain. The medication that doesn't is wellbutrin, or if anxiety is the main symptom, klonopin. You should adjust to tiredness within a week, if not, then maybe the dose is too high for you. Re obesity, you have to learn how to stop stress eating, which is probably more difficult for you because of your anxiety. the best way to do that is to take the course at www.shrinkyourself.com, or consult a therapist.
Avatar m tn Delayed recognition may also occur when atypical symptoms such as headache, weight loss, periodic paralysis, or nausea and vomiting dominate the clinical picture. Elderly patients may present with apathetic thyrotoxicosis typified by weight loss and the absence of sympathomimetic symptoms and signs.
