Advair and hives

Common Questions and Answers about Advair and hives

Ever since I stopped taking Advair, I've become hypersensitive to any and all drugs!! Everything from Prilosec to Tagament. From vitamins to digestive enzymes. From Albuterol Sulfate (in nebulizer) to Singulair. Everything that I ingest in pill form or inhale (chemically) results in a SEVERE allergic reaction or SEVERE adverse reactions!! I've learned to combat the GERD by controlling my diet and eating more raw foods seems to do the trick. BUT my asthma really concerns me.
My doctor gave me two breathing treatments due to my severe wheezing at my appt. in which he discovered my asthma. He also had me on an Advair diskus for one week and an inhaler. I am still on a Levalbuterol oral inhaler. I was also getting facial hives, but they did not itch, I did not mention that to my doctor and from my reading I wonder if I should have. For the hives I was prescribed Zyrtec 10mg.
Gargling with salt-water will help relieve the soreness, but won't cure it. Just curl up and stay warm, and call your dr in am.
I got thrush from advair and taking an antibiotic at the same time. I switched to symbicort and it has never happened again even with an antibiotic. Thrush is a fungal infection and hives an allergic reaction. Thrush often happens when the bodies resistance is down. My friend with AIDS had thrush a lot.
I suffered from asthma as a child and have a long history of allergic type response, hives, rhinitis and hayfever. The view is that the asthma has returned, possibly as a result of a viral infection. I have been treated since November with Seretide 250/25 (Advair), salbutamol as needed and Montelukast 10mg, in addition to fluticasone nasal spray and anti- -histamine for rhinitis.
At 15 we had braces put on her teeth and did not realize the rubber bands were latex, she always had a mild reaction to latex, but this reaction was terrible. She started to get hives everywhere and no one could figure out why. After lots of tests we realized the latex had caused her to have more food allergies. She has had a c pap machine since the age of 12. She is slightly over weight from prolonged prednisone use.
so it is only becuase I always insist on the blood test that she is diagnosed. She gets croup, asthma general cold symptoms and one time she got hives all over her body for a week until we worked out it was again mycoplasma. It is so frustrating because at first she was treated extensively for asthma but of course she didn't get better until we treated the mycoplasma. The good news is that the drugs specific for mycoplasma always clear it up pretty quickly.
Iv been On plenty of different meds like subutimol and ventalin for emergancies, and have taken Plumicort, the orange puffer don't remmebr the name Singular, and im now on Advair to control everyday problems breathing. I found that all of these medications work for awhile for me then once Im on them for a month or two they stop working sometimes only a few weeks, and they stop working.
The lyme disease test came back negative.... I thought that too. I was on celexa for years, then went on cymbalta and had really bad side effects. (GI problems) I've been on Effexor for a year now, clonazepam and aprazolam...
By the 3rd week I started taking Benedryl and alternating with Sudafed Sinus and Allergy to make the hives STOP (I was getting hives with everything I ate). At the end of the 3rd week I had lost 8 lbs and my coughing went totally away. I had no hunger (just zero appetite) and my allergies cleared up a lot. No phlegm. No vomiting while brushing my teeth every morning. My hives stopped. My skin looked amazing and I looked years younger. BUT... by the 4th week, my appetite came back.
Good luck, allergies can be hard. And don't complain about the heat, we've got the nineties and near 100 here and it's also humid and full of mosquitoes, so you're in paradise.
However, he said it could NOT be causing me so much pain. He checked out my arm and noticed a hard soft tissue knot, and suggested removing it through surgery and it "might" relieve my pain. So, 3 weeks ago I had the said surgery and it was removed (a hard soft tissue mass about the size of a marble). No, this was not the cyst inside my humerus bone. Anyways, I still have the pain, and it is extremely terrible at night (on a scale of 1 to 10, a 20 at night).
These began 3 yrs ago only every 6-9 months and started to become more frequent and within the last 9 months occure very often and within the last 16 days -four times. At first I thought it was flu like symptoms and as time went I I knew it had to be more. I am taking inhalers (albutorul, advair, and spirvira for my lungs. My internist does not know who to refer me to as he says the fever is the confusing issue.
My daughter uses Spariva and an albutarol inhaler along with advair and nasonex. She does pretty well with it. but sh ehas asthma, copd and allergies. My son however, has the same seasonal allergies, his Dr. hives him a short does of steroids and a cough supressant and it works for him. Maybe talking to your Dr about this might help. As for the school, Go directly to the school board, I have had many runins with ours, and demand that they pay attention to the Dr reports.
Oh, i forgot, he did say I was having a COPD flare up, most likely from the hives and not sleeping and all that went with that. I am feeling better already. My dermotoligist , these med terms need shortened, had given me an antihistimine for the hives and it put weight on me...I looked it up and they give it to anorexic patients. So now I have another 10 lbs to take off. I need to start eating better anyway. Dennis, are you listening to this ?
I have terrible gerd and wheeze in my throat all the time (past 2 years) and have sinus drainage also. Told I must have asthma and was given advair and albuterol. I take them to just take them but they have not helped in the least. Cardio said today he wants to do sleep apnea study and wants GI doctor to re-evaulate the constant reflux. He is not up on what meds work best for my wheezing problems. He said it is not my heart but my lungs and stomach as I am not in heart failure.
We went to an allergist after an emergency room visit and she started with nasonex and albuterol, now advair, singulair, nasonex plus tonsils/adenoid surgery. We'll see with the 5 mo old. benedryl helps her. going to ENT next week. the allergist says "normally airborne allergies dont happen for a few yrs, so it is food allergies or just stuffy...". I am a big believer in nasal rinsing! For infantsthe drs say saline drops.
The immune system is attacking the normal tissues of the body and causing hives as a result. So, in many patients with chronic hives, there is really no exposure (drug, food, insect, chemical) to blame for the urticaria. The patient must understand and accept this for their ideal management. Basically, all that needs to be done is treat the hives. The main treatment of hives is antihistamines, and they will work if they are used properly.
In 1999, I had severe pain with vomiting diarhea, fatique, rubbery legs, hives, confusion and approx. 2 months after pain started I started coughing hard enough to break a rib and my breathing starting getting difficult. I am wondering could my gallbladder inflammation affect my lung? ???? My lining of my right lung is damaged I was thinking I may have aspirated some of my stomach acids.
I was referred for allergy testing that showed that I wasn't allergic to anything except mildly to dogs and dust. My husband and I did some thinking about what had changed just prior to when my infections began. A friend is an HVAC contractor and had convinced my husband that the new, high tech and best air filter for our system was a hog hair filter. We replaced the filter and my infections stopped. About a year later I worked near a hog farm.
tussafed as a decongestgent and expectorant and i've stopped using advair because although it helps in the begining towards the end it leaves a burning sensation in my lungs. I don't feel weak my temperature is normal I just still have discomfort breathing in my right lung and i'm still petrified it could be cancer. Anyone got any good ideas?

advair and pulmicort) which doesn't help at all. Also, I have a bad cough since last summer that doesn't go away (keeps coming and going). And if both my parents have allergies, does it mean I have more chances of having allergies ? (dad : ana. to eggs, seafood (shrimps, lobster ...) and diff.
I am getting fat !!!! Then because I am taking steroids for the inflammation AND I had a shot of it for my hives, he is concerned about, damn, can't remember what it is, but he said to watch out for a few was rapid wieght loss was one of them. So now weight loss is a bad thing..LOL You can't win...but feeling good is more important.
It makes me barely want to eat so i have dramatically lost weight and that just adds more problems. I also get a sensation in my tongue and and under my tongue. The inside of my mouth/jaw at times can become very painful. I noticed my wisdom teeth are also starting to grow in so i figured that may explain the mouth pain, although it doesn't hurt to touch the area. I have no fever. Not knowing what this is is becoming very stressful and affecting my life negatively.
I am 38 years old and have battle allergies my life but began get huge hives a few years ago. After many allergy tests and rounds of prednizone, it was my allergy doctor who realized that I probable had high Ige levels....and blood work proved him right. I began my first series of Xolair with very high hopes. It worked great...but I rebound higher after each series. Normal levels are under 150...I started off with just slightly higher at 183. This was a couple years ago.
Let me add I have a history of antibiotic reactions (the one was a true allergic reaction, to minocycline, which caused facial swelling, hives, and itching). A few days later I went to the ER because the facial swelling was getting worse. They doubled the antihistamine dosage and sent me home without doing much else for me (I had high blood pressure and heart rate which was a concern but it calmed down eventually) as blood tests were neg and I did not have a fever.

I'm 24 now--the first time I ever had an anxiety episode was in college when I was about 19 and I had started taking advair and singulair for the first time for my asthma/allergies. I'm still convinced that that's what has opened the floodgates for me, so to speak. As far as anxiety disorders go, different things can trigger the onset of them if you have a genetic predisposition for it, and for me that's what it was and I've had a problem with it ever since.
This has been happening on and off for over a year now. i have asthma, and am on singular, advair, and flonase. I have had all the cardio tests run...negative, i have had tons of pulmonary test done...all normal. Except one test, a VO2 test that showed that there was an abnormality between the respiratory and cardiac functions.
