Common Questions and Answers about Advair and coughing

advair

5037123 tn?1362663006 Last week I was diagnosed with Asthma (through a breathing test) after two bouts with Bronchitis and lots of coughing. My doctor gave me Advair. After 3 doses I began getting back pain between my shoulder blades. Not sure if it was from the Advair I took another dose and the pain got worse. I contacted my doctor and he changed me to Symbicort. I had no problem for 3 days, but after today's dose the back pain is back. Is this typical or am I doing something wrong when inhaling.
Avatar m tn My lung health is actually much better and I am more comfortable since I gave up Advair, and my coughing is moderate. Advair also caused me to develop adrenal fatigue, which was quite dreadful, and I am still recovering from it. Like you I have 50 per cent lung capacity and am thinking about getting oxygen, at least for sleeping.
Avatar f tn I quit smoking 4 1/2 months ago, and I'm still not coughing. Every once and a while I sneeze, and now that I'm taking Advair for asthma, I now clear my throat a lot. I smoked for 20 years. Should I be worried?
Avatar n tn What exactly do you have? I have emphysema and coughing and phlegm is not an issue for me. Do you have bronkitis?
Avatar m tn Some things you may want to try at that point are different medications specifically Dulera or Symbicort instead of the Advair and adding allergy medications and nasal sprays. Allergy testing and shots may be needed as well. Finding the cause of the cough is essential to bringing it under control. Please don't hesitate to ask additional questions. I am glad to help in anyway I can. I know it is a rough road. God bless.
Avatar f tn I have asthma and I don't cough or wheeze as well. I have had symptoms for a while and ignored them because I didn't fit the standard suite of "asthma". I am very athletic and am training for a marathon. My physician did heart work ups first because of my SOB and chest tightness. When they came back negative we were trying to still figure out what was wrong. I was sent to do a Pulmonary Function Test which came back markedly abnormal.
Avatar f tn It also played havoc with my adrenal glands and my eyes. I now take natural anti-inflammatories and mucolytics and am much better off, even though I have moderately severe COPD. Go natural and you will get your voice back.
Avatar n tn I think it is normal because of the advair. I have been off the advair for about a week and I am going to see my doctor to get retested without the advair. I think the psuedomonas never left my lung, and is still active in making my life miserable. I feel tired all the time and hurt my chest from coughing so much. Its not normal to have gagging and coughing 24/7 with asthma. I dont feel its what I have. I heard an mri can see if there is a problem with the bronchioles. I dont know.
Avatar m tn Spiriva is extremely drying and it will make for thick mucus that is hard to cough up. Advair is also drying and I note that your extremely high dose of that inhaled steroid is not generally recommended. I got rid of Spiriva because it was drying. It didn't help anyway. I got rid of Advair because I developed adrenal fatigue, osteoporosis, and it gave me a hacking cough which exhausted me and could not have been good for my lungs.
757137 tn?1347196453 Because of serious side of effects of both Advair and an inhaled steroid that did not contain salmeterol, I now rely solely on a nebulizer and an antihistamine. I take supplements to reduce inflammation and thin mucus. I have moderate COPD and am doing fairly well, but would benefit from a longer-lasting medication. Any suggestions? Avatar m tn I have been coughing since September. I caught a bad flu and after that I can't stop coughing. I also went to Asia for the first time in October and with the recent typhoons there, could I have made it worse. I used Biaxin (anti-biotics), started with Symbicort (puffer), then on Alvesco and now I am on Nasacort, Advair and Aerius. Is this a post virus cough, asthma or something else...your thoughts?
Avatar f tn DO YOU KNOW WHAT TYPE OF DRUG IT IS OR BETTER THAN ADVAIR?
Avatar f tn I have white/clear mucous and have used augmentin and azithromax one course after another (augmentin first and then azithromax) given by my doctor but the cough is not gone. My chest x ray is normal but the doctor could not do a pft because of my continuous cough at that time. My blood work for pneumonia diabetes and cholesterol are all good. sinus CT scan is normal too. Is this viral is it okay to take several months for cough to go away. I have no wheezing or asthma history.
Avatar f tn s recommendation that you discontinue the Advair™ Diskus® (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) Inhalation Powder and substitute regular daily doses of albuterol was inappropriate and wrong. It is not consistent with the national guidelines for asthma treatment. The elevated residual volume is consistent with sub-optimally controlled asthma.
Avatar f tn Question, do the Flovent and Advair have the fluticasone propionate ingredient in common? Tonight will be my 1st use of the Flovent. Concerned that I may have a mitral valve problem plus the emphysema. My symptoms of attack are severe shortness of breath, high heart rate, and the immediate need to urinate. Does anyone have anything similar to this? I have not been advised supplemental oxygen as of yet.
Avatar n tn Another approach might be to avoid these two combination drugs, Advair and Symbicort, and substitute individual inhalert for each of the two drugs (the inhaled steroid and the beta-agonist). You could then reduce the dose of the beta agonist but, unfortunately that could not be done with a metered dose inhaler; would require the use of a nebulizer. You should also discuss this with your doctor. I mentioned individual sensitivity to the beta-agonist class of drugs.
Avatar m tn I have copd and have these attacks where i blackout. I take advair and o2 at night for sleep apneia. I have had this for years , but i find now that i have bhronchitus its seriously worse. I know that my body is expelling mucas very hard. I also know i was being given a anti-sezure medicine beginning with a T. until it did not work anymore. but it seemed to help alot. I will suggest if you feel a cough coming on to presetup your self to be sitting, even if you have to squat onto ground.
Avatar f tn I have been getting treatment for asthma for over three years now....neublizer w/xopenex...flomax, advair, asthmanex, to name a few...I am still coughing like crazy. I had allergy tests and have been on Allegra and a nasal spray....no relief. It appears that all of a sudden my throat is dry and has a "catch" in it and I start coughing and then water pours out of my eyes and tons of mucous pours out of my mouth.
Avatar f tn I saw the doctor and he put me on Ventolin with my Advair and antibiotic. I saw him a week later worse and with thrush in my mouth and throat. He ordered a CT scan and put me in the hospital. My right lung showed two small spots under 1 cm. I relasped the afternoon he released me from the hospital with wheezing and a cough with phlem. He put me back on some inhalers. I finally started getting some better, but he wanted to order another CT. This was done three weeks from the first one.
Avatar f tn First of all, let me advise that if you are a young person, please be cautious of letting yourself be put on Cordisteroid inhalers such as symbicort and advair. Once you have been on those inhalers getting off of them is life-threatening. I never really believed that I had severe asthma but had been put on advair many years ago. Recently I was switched from advair to Wixela as a generic replacement. After only two Puffs off of this I began coughing.
Avatar n tn My allergist thought it was my Dulera (inhaled combination med like Advair). I eliminated the atrovent and reduced my Dulera and the laryngitis healed. She needs to discus any changes in dosage with her doctor before making changes. I had already been discussing the changes with my doctor as my asthma had become much better controlled. I just pushed up the timeline on one and she made the other. God bless.
746512 tn?1388807580 However this could just be due to the lack of consistency in my test results to point at asthma. I am trying advair 250/50 right now, and it has improved my symptoms 90% within an hour of the first dose (minus one very stressful day that sucked and I couldn't breathe). However, I have always been very healthy and thus took coverage off of prescription drugs 2 years ago because I've had maybe 10 mild antibotic prescriptions in my 20 year life.
Avatar f tn I went in 2 days ago wanting a referral to a pulmonologist and the Dr said he wants to try advair for a week first. So my son is currently on Advair and Singulair and Ventolin as needed. Nothing is changing. He went to practice last night and couldn't even make it through the stretches. He coughs all day. No coughing when he is asleep. He was healthy and active until 3 weeks ago! He has even been running some 5k's with no troubles. Any ideas?
Avatar f tn I assumed that the COPD was progressing at an alarming rate. I developed unrelenting bronchitis and would have coughing fits as a regular thing and, most recently, choking. I weaned myself off Advair, having tried everything else. I am now years younger. Bronchitis is minimal and the coghing fits and coking are a thing of the past. My COPD is now diagnosed as moderate and I expect to live a good long time.My pulmonologist never spotted the trouble.
Avatar f tn So they are still leaning towards an allergy of some kind. Pulmonary specialist give me Advair and tells me to use it with my inhaler. Neither of those are helping and I hate how I feel on the Advair, so I stopped it. The other - Maxair does absolutely nothing to relieve the asthma either. We just moved from a house that had possible mold in it. I could never prove the mold, but there was a year long water leak in the walls that they refused to fix, until I threatend to sue them.
