Advair and copd

Common Questions and Answers about Advair and copd

advair

Avatar n tn Did the prednisone inflate the results, thus arguing reversibility of the obstruction? and does this rule out copd? Is it possible to have copd with normal lung function? If not copd, what is going on with the chest x-ray? Do I need to be concerned about the clips protruding into the hilum area? I appreciate any insight you can give.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with moderate COPD in Oct. 07. I too was put on Spiriva and Advair. About 3 mths. on these meds, I had the sickest winter of my life. Pneumonia, bronchitis and 3 months of painful pleurisy. I instantly stopped the Advair. Then, I stopped the Spiriva. And for almost 2 yrs. now, I am doing better without these meds, then when I was taking them. I don't suggest this stopping of meds for everyone. But, personally these meds made me much worse.
Avatar m tn I have moderate to advanced copd and take both advair and spriva. My hep doc didn't see any problem with it For me it came down to a choice of whether or not I wanted to stay of the oxygen tank.
1679876 tn?1304743615 I have been given Advair to take for my copd, but one side effect is fast and irregular heart beat, chest pain and increased BP----I take Metoprolol succ er for my PSVT--- -Will the Advair Diskus work against my metoprolol meds? I am alllergic to Penasylin, tetrocycoline, decadron, dyphahidromine, and benedril. My other meds I take are: zolof, welbrutrin, seroquel xr, gabapentine, tizanidine hcl and pravastatin sodium----will there be any adverse reactions to any of these meds?
757137 tn?1347196453 Advair has a steroid in it, which can cause hair growth, etc. I took Advair for my COPD briefly. I simply did not like the side effects that it seem to give me.
Avatar n tn The combination medications which include inhaled steroids and a long acting broncho dilater like Advair, Symbicort and Dulera are standard treatments for all forms of COPD. They are also used to treat asthma which cannot be controlled on inhaled steroids alone. Have a blessed New Year.
757137 tn?1347196453 I take supplements to reduce inflammation and thin mucus. I have moderate COPD and am doing fairly well, but would benefit from a longer-lasting medication. Any suggestions? This discussion is related to <a href='/posts/show/924096'>Advair Skip a Day</a>.
Avatar n tn s too soon to go on oxygen, until we see if advair works. but i worry about the advair too. will i ever get better and be able to switch to lower advair dose? my MD says i have "moderate" COPD....does it get better, or what?
Avatar n tn It can be used occasionally, for transient worsening of COPD with Advair, and more regularly with Spiriva. If you find that you have a need for Proventil more than once a day, you should report that to your doctor who may then opt to increase your long acting medication.
2074233 tn?1337641615 I am a 53 year old female with copd. I have already been on antibiotics twice this year and i am coughing up so much phlegm now it's making me weak all over. I take advair, am trying the new drug dailiresp, 1mg. of klonipen and wellbutrin {even tho i have not smoked in two years}. I have applied for disability and according to the pulmonologist my fev1 is 0.97 and my diffusing capacity 9.1. Those are 35% and 38% of predicted respectively.
Avatar n tn Most importantly, is the fact that, according to the information provided, she was doing very well on her cardiac drugs and the Advair and that might be the best evidence favoring the use of both.
Avatar n tn My allergist thought it was my Dulera (inhaled combination med like Advair). I eliminated the atrovent and reduced my Dulera and the laryngitis healed. She needs to discus any changes in dosage with her doctor before making changes. I had already been discussing the changes with my doctor as my asthma had become much better controlled. I just pushed up the timeline on one and she made the other. God bless.
Avatar f tn I take my rescue inhaler only when absolutely needed. I had no meds like Advair and Spiriva last winter. And I only had bronchitis once. Went to my family doctor and got an antibiotic for that. I am not suggesting everyone give up their breathing meds. NOT AT ALL. But, personally for me, I am doing better without all those meds. Sure I have symptoms. Some days I do good. Other days not so good. But, at least I am not getting sick nearly as much, while I was being given Advair and Spiriva.
Avatar f tn You are obviously doing the right things, including mouth washing after drug use and you are correct that the Spiriva and Duo-neb do not contain any steroid. Unfortunately, some individuals develop allergy to the ipritropium in the Duo-neb or to Spiriva and the drug simply irritates the membranes of the mouth allowing the thrush to take hold. That you also develop candidiasis under your breasts suggests that you might, for some reason be predisposed to this infectious agent.
Avatar f tn Hi, I was a very heavy smoker for 30 years. Quit 3 years ago. Never had a problem breathing till a few years ago. I am 53 yr old female. Went to pulmonologist and had PFT without inhaler. They said my lung function is fine (although it said lung age 70 yrs), that I had asthma and am now on Advair 250/50 2x with rescue inhaler. I also have always had allergies but not to where it affected my breathing till now.
335728 tn?1331414412 How the heck was I to know that this drug can cause LEG CRAMPS!!! She said that I have COPD and that this Advair is what is used to control COPD! When I was finally referred to the Lung Specialist 7 MONTHS LATER and the Lung Specialist diagnosed me with Asthma, not COPD, he immediately took me off of the Advair and put me on Spireva and Symbicort and Ventolin (as required). Of course when I went to the lung dr.
Avatar n tn I have moderate regurgitation in the Aortic, tricuspid and one other valve .. I also have COPD that is being treated by Advair and a handihaler once daily and Lasix 40 mg.. I must use 2 liters of oxygen at night and was just tested and found that I must use oxygen when I am exertional. I tested the need for 4 liters of oxygen at 280 feet walking. I get very short of breath. I was told by my cardiologist that I would eventually need to have the valves replaced.
Avatar f tn I saw the doctor and he put me on Ventolin with my Advair and antibiotic. I saw him a week later worse and with thrush in my mouth and throat. He ordered a CT scan and put me in the hospital. My right lung showed two small spots under 1 cm. I relasped the afternoon he released me from the hospital with wheezing and a cough with phlem. He put me back on some inhalers. I finally started getting some better, but he wanted to order another CT. This was done three weeks from the first one.
Avatar n tn I use Duoneb (similar to combivent) in a nebulizer and find it very helpful. I discontinued the use of Advair (which is basically a combination of Serevent and Flovent) because it almost killed me (choking). It also caused adrenal fatigue, was harming my eyes, and was subverting my immune system. In place of Advair I use a variety of natural anti-inflammatories and mucolytics. My health is much improved and I found that the severe bronchitis I had was in fact CAUSED by the Advair.
Avatar n tn I stopped the steroids and the condition resolved itself. Stop the steroids if you can. I was using Advair for COPD. There were many bad side effects. But I found that I actually got better results using natural remedies. No side effects. If COPD is your problem look to natural alternatives.
1580085 tn?1400940838 First off that dosage of Advair is pretty low so you must be mild? The metropolo is strong stuff and my husband was on it and it caused all kinds of side effects with him, so research and be aware. I would ask the pharmacist about any conflict of interest the two meds have. (They know more about interactions of drugs and such than the actual doctors do). Let us know what you find out k?

Avatar n tn The second set of test results are practically WNL and, as such, cast doubt about the diagnosis of COPD. Such results are more consistent with the diagnosis of asthma. Interesting that you would have had pneumonia as there is an increased risk of pneumonia for persons using an inhaled steroid. Despite that alleged risk, the benefit of these drugs far outweighs the risk of pneumonia in the majority of persons.
Avatar n tn im on the advair and im on a scrpt of xanax..it helps...i was diagnosed with panic in 93..was on klopin 11 yrs now xanax...any benzo would help u..but xanax is more for panic,,or addrilin..
Avatar m tn why do i cough up blood? my dr. has tried to explain it to me, something about air ways, air vents, etc. i do this the majority of the time maybe 2 days in between doing so. sometimes it's bright red and then sometimes a darker pink. i have 50% breathing capacity and am on oxygen. it's real scary even though i've been told not to worry about it. i take advair and spiriva and don't cough up that much but when i do and it is very little.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with COPD at the beginning of this year. My fev1 was 56% pre and went up 24% post. My pulmo put me on Advair 250/50 twice daily. In the beginning it made me feel better but now I have constant side affects. I have dealt with thrush I don't know how many times and I always wash my mouth out and make sure that i drink something afterwards to clear the residue from my throat. I have charlie horses all the time or leg cramps in my feet and my legs.
Avatar m tn I currently take advair and Spiriva medication.. is this the one and only mediacation, since there are no genericand here in the united states unlike the rest of the world which has a free market, we are controlled by the drug industry.
Avatar f tn It also played havoc with my adrenal glands and my eyes. I now take natural anti-inflammatories and mucolytics and am much better off, even though I have moderately severe COPD. Go natural and you will get your voice back.
Avatar n tn I quit smoking about two and a half weeks ago, and have been taking my advair for about three weeks, and I still have not improved at all. Should I continue this treatment or maybe see another doctor???
