Common Questions and Answers about Adult acne glycolic products

acne

Avatar n tn sounds like an adult version of acne known as acne rosacea- google it or check google images - it is completely different to the teenage form of acne vulgaris
Avatar m tn cleanser, toner and moisturizer, containing glycolic acid. Next day right after application the skin between the lower lip and a chin as well as around the nose became red, scratchy, and there was a sense of burning. Esthetician suggested to continue usage saying that the skin should adjust to the acid. After a week the peeling skin was gone but the redness remained. Also small red bumps started to appear around the cheeks and forehead.
Avatar n tn Hello, Do not use any alpha hydroxy acid products (those containing glycolic or lactic acid), salicylic acid products, retinoids (Retin A, Renova, Differin and Tazorac) and other topical acne medications such as benzoyl peroxide for 72 hours after the treatment. Also any scarubbing or acne soaps should be avoided for atleast 1 week after the miscrodermabrasion procedure.
Avatar f tn Products with glycolic acid can help like facial wash, moisturizer, and facial wipes can be used together. (Just use them separately first until you adjust). Various products are available at Sephora. Just check the ingredient list to avoid the non pregnancy safe substances like benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, and retinol.
476624 tn?1207849958 Hi! I am hoping someone can help me figure it out or if somebody has the same issue... i am in my mid 30's married mom to 2 young girls - had few to moderate issue w/ acne during my teenage years (got better after mid 20's). Here it goes, I noticed this event everytime i attempt to exfoliate my face with heavier alternative (aha/glycolic acid peel/ etc) - i am attempting to have a supple, youthful, even tone skin and lessen wrinkle appearance.
Avatar f tn Two dermos said there was nothing they could do for me...that it was adult acne. They said to try glycolic and salicylic acid peels. I have tried both for about a year and 30% salicylic acid seems to work the best as far as providing a good peel. This seems to thin the skin surface to make the whiteheads pop easier. My face is still filled with them and I see no end. I have even used wart remover on them which causes scabs but sometimes works.
Avatar f tn Nothing I have done improves this, adding moisture, reducing moisture, exfoiliating, purchasing oily skin products, talking to people w/ oily skin and then using their cleansers and products. This is incredibly frustrating, as I take good care of my skin and can rule out probable causes: -hormonal change/imbalance Definitively out bc I am on the pill, this did not come around my period or ovulation cycle.
Avatar n tn s Sparkling Clean. Washing alone will not heal acne or blackheads so do ask your doctor about Differin. Females with acne or oily skin may benefit from switching to a combined or anti-androgen contraceptive pill (Ortho Tri-Cyclen, Yasmin, Diane35) and avoiding the mini-pill. Eloise.
Avatar n tn Now I have persistant and large acne on my cheeks and jawline, including cystic acne. The acne is ever present and not just once a month. My current dermo (not the one who proscribed Accutane) tells me that it's hormonal (I believe this) and that I will just have to deal with it for the rest of my life (I don't want to accept this). She does Cortosone injections on occasion for the cysts because I cannot, for the life of me, leave my face alone.
Avatar n tn I recently began going for facials and my aesthetician told me to stop using my retinol products, as she said it ages and thins the skin. She recommends glycolic peels instead. This is contrary to everything I've heard. I thought retinol thickened the skin and stimulated collagen growth, and glycolic peels thinned the skin. Am I mistaken?
Avatar m tn Your eating habits should not have a direct effect on acne, since acne is caused by bacteria and hormonal fluctuations affect it. Yes, some foods MAY trigger an attack in some people, but I'm yet to see this in my case. Sometimes our skin gets used to certain topical medicines. If that's the case, the doctor will change it for you or combine it with other meds.
Avatar m tn It seems that you have been experiencing a pronounced skin reaction after repeated application of several peeling products (glycolic acid containing cleanser, toner, and mask). Redness, stinging, dryness, flakiness are unpleasant but quite expected transient skin changes after chemical peels. The main thing is that it should all resolve in few more days.
Avatar n tn My acne didn't settle down until a few weeks after my second trimester started. Natural ways: steaming face, bentonite masks, yogurt masks, avocado masks, lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, tea tree oil (debatable), eating more fresh/frozen fruits and vegetables You can have your Dr prescribe something as well. Facials are great too. I don't even wear moisturizer now technically and my skin was dry. I use a foaming cleanser morning and night.
Avatar f tn Thank you for your response, I appreciate it.
Avatar f tn I live in the southwest of Tx, so there is constant humidity. As an adult i still battle with minor acne but with this fourth child im constantly blotting with blotting sheet and when that doesnt work, tissues!!! Usually by my mid second trimester my skin goes back to normal, good luck mama!
Avatar m tn Additionally, inhibits thromboxane synthesis and may even have antibacterial and/or antifungal properties Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) are natural fruit acids, including lactic acid, glycolic acid, and citric acid. AHAs are used topically to exfoliate, to treat stretch marks and acne scars, and to moisturize the skin. Adverse reactions may include stinging, irritation, burning, redness, swelling, and sloughing of the skin.
Avatar n tn Hello ladies, I am 31 years old and 18 weeks into my first pregnancy. I have had very mild adult acne for the past 5 years or so but with this pregnancy it has gone from mild to I don't even want to show my face severe. Can anyone offer any remedies? I follow a daily skin regimen and have never had this issue like this before, all the moms at work say the same thing: it's just hormones.
Avatar f tn I understand that glycolic and AHA acid peels and serums can be too harsh on the skin, but how much harm will a glycolic acid face wash cause if used 3x a week. Is it something to be concerned about? will it cause too much photosensitivity?
Avatar n tn I've always had issues with acne the majority of my teen to adult life. The only thing I've ever kinda found to help was tanning beds, obviously now I'm pregnant I've stopped and my skin is so gross! Anyone have any natural remedy solutions or products? I'm sick of it!
Avatar f tn I'm 33 and have some old acne scars and sunspots here and there, nothing too bad, but I would love to have model clear skin. My dermotoligist perscribed me pigmanorm cream (hydrocortison. I'm a American expat temporarily living in Germany, so you may not recognize the medication names) to lighten some of the spots on my face.
Avatar f tn I've been having acne scars or marks for quite some time now. It has gotten bad over the past few years. It's mainly on both sides of my cheeks. It's red and indented I'm my skin well some, and some are raised above but not that much. It doesn't hurt at all but looks horrible. How can I go about clearing this help? Please help, I don't know what to do anymore.
Avatar f tn Since reaching my mid 30's my skin has been a wreck. I have dry skin that is sensitive and whenever I use moisturizers they break me out even when they say it doesn't clog pores. So I am constantly trying to battle acne with products that dry and moisturizers that break me out. I just can't seem to get the right routine for my skin type...please HELP!!
773889 tn?1235450567 Uneven pigmentation of the skin may be a natural occurrence or related to ultraviolet light, infection, hormones, drugs, acne or topical chemicals applied to the skin. Other causes of hyperpigmentation include sunspots, freckles, “acne spots” and melasma. Sunspots result from the increased production of melanin from sun exposure. If other symptoms occur and if it persists, have this evaluated by your doctor for proper management.
Avatar m tn Hello, For premature acne, if the acne is protected from the sunlight and sometimes an antioxidant treatment if applied in the initial stage to cure the lesions of acne then it can be cured at the beginning. Then medical treatment is the same as adult acne i.e initially benzoyl peroxide and topical antibiotics are used. But they are to be used under medical supervision and not one one’s own.
Avatar f tn My doctor told me I cannot use any products that have anti-acne chemicals in it and can only use soap. I've had it really bad all over me back but it's something you kind of just deal with unfortunately. After my second trimester it cleared up a little at least!
