Avatar f tn Kennedy - I thought that supplements such as Omegas, Vitamin B complex, magnesium and zinc have shown to help ADD/ADHD. I agree that, these supplements will not eliminate the symptoms. I think that research ahs shown that these supplements help to reduce the symptoms and also reduce the amount of medicine needed, assuming the parent decides to use medication. I would appreciate your comments.
467977 tn?1262714747 Hi all, my husband is needing to know a good over-the-counter drug to help with his ADHD. It's mainly just to help him concentrate and study for med school (the irony). He had no time to see a Dr during the week b/c of his school schedule. Anyone know of any vitamins/otc drugs that will help calm him and help him concentrate?? Thanks in advance...
Avatar f tn I swear by zinc lozenges on the first onset of a sore throat. I'm only 5 Weeks pregnant and wouldn't you know it, I have the start of a sore throat. anyone know if it's ok to take the lozenges? I know, I know, I need to ask my OB but I don't even have one in place yet since I'm so early on.
5757880 tn?1395578022 Hi there, Magnesium, Vitamin D and Zinc in studies showed to have a very positive impact on Children with ADHD. 95 % of ADHD Children have a low leel of magnesium. Your doctor should make a blood, a urin and hair sample to determine the level and set the dosage.
Avatar m tn Hi Doc, I'm tired all the time and practically a person that is always in shambles. I'm 41 yrs old and diagnosed with ADHD because of my symptoms. I was prescribed Vyvanse. I took 20mg today but it put me to sleep. I was wondering if there was a possibility of me having thyroid problems because of this effect the Vyvanse had on me? I thought i was going to be focused and energized. Can you please let me know if this is the effect Vyvanse does to people with thyroid problems?
Avatar n tn I am and adult with adhd. Zinc and magnesium supplements would be beneficial for your son. They work for me! As to the dosages your son would need you would have to research.
Avatar n tn I've heard about the restless leg, cramps, and aches, but are body jerks part of the withdrawals? They will jerk my daughter's legs or arms like she is flinging them or similar to what you do with a cold shiver that goes up your spine. Have bought Calcium/Mag/Zinc tablets and Hyland's Restful Leg, and bananas. Any other suggestions?
Avatar m tn I have noticed the Zinc upsets my stomach so I have to take it with a little food. Just my personal experience. As I think you all know, I plan on treating with triple therapy (INC, peg-INF, RBV) leading into my transplant. Meaning I will attempt to become UND during those weeks (4-12) before transplant. If UND I will then choose a liver without hepatitis C so I will not reinfect my new donor liver and be free of hepatitis C after my transplant.
Avatar m tn I just found out that there is a class-action lawsuit against the companies that make denture adhesive. It seems that these adhesives contain enough zinc to cause many of the my FMS symptoms. I've been wearing dentures for 18 years and I have always used the same brand of adhesive, which is made by one of the companies targeted by the lawsuit. I called my Dr this am to arrange a blood test to determine the my zinc levels.
1475202 tn?1536270977 Also a couple of days ago due to my ammonia level being high (68) I took a zinc sulfate 220mg prescibed by my specialist to help with the ammonia. In less than a hour I was experiencing the worst pain I ever had. It was in my entire abdominal area and all the way across my lower back. Finally I tried a warm bath and it took the pain away. My specialist even called in some pain pills for me called Dicyclomine 20mg. which also helped relieve the pain.
12757438 tn?1433673730 Has anyone dealt with this type of thing before? They said its anemia due to the zinc toxicity. Has anyone’s baby bounced back from something like this? They have not spoken any words of organ failures so as far as I know that is not a concern. I’m just worried and not sure if I should be asking for something else to be done. Thanks in advance for any insight anyone can offer.
Avatar f tn I've been posting on this site for close to 5 years and I have never seen a post by anyone saying anything naturally helped their child (with ADHD) outside of normal good dietary practices. The thing that will most help your child is for you to be informed about ADHD as possible. I highly recommend that you get the book, "The ADD/ADHD Answer Book" by Susan Ashley. It will be a tremendous resource for you.
Avatar f tn I also have ADHD and am on adderal. Can anyone give your experience with medicating a young child? Is one medication better? How do you recognize bad side effects from meds and what to look for? Do the meds change the child's personality? We also are using trial and error to find the best system to keep him focused with his daily tasks and homework. I do have many questions, but would like to start out small.
Avatar n tn Also, in 1996, researchers from the Department of Psychiatry, Technical University, Faculty of Medicine, Trabzon, Turkey, reported that levels of free fatty acids as well as zinc were severalfold lower in ADHD children compared to non-ADHD children. The Doctor's Prescription "We shouldn't be prescribing medicine simply because that's the easiest way to go," notes Dr. Mark Stein, who runs a University of Chicago clinic for children and adults with the disorder.
Avatar f tn He has been diagnosed with ADHD, mood disorder, bipolar, borderline personality disorder. He has been on many SSRIs, lithium, ADHD meds (which made anger much worse), anti convulsant meds, atypical anti psychotic meds all to no avail. His mood swings and depression continue. None of the doctors he has seen over the years have ever mentioned thyroid testing. Does anyone know if this could possibly be what's wrong with him.
Avatar m tn The major sign of zinc deficiency is affected taste. The zinc taste test is recommended. I have had this done for free at my local pharmacy showing i had zinc deficiency. You can also purchase zinc sulfate to try at home. I can't say for sure what all my zinc deficiency symptoms were as i has other severe deficiency states and medical conditions concurrently.
Avatar f tn zinc magnesium is for rls is what it is for if thats what you are wondering aind if thats what u want it for i would get potassium to because there is enough zinc in the multivitamin if you are taking one in my opinion so i just took potassium and magnesium
Avatar m tn This morning on ABC they had a segment about a lady who had lost her balance to the point she had to have a walker to get around. They said they discovered that the zinc in her denture cream had cause the problem. They especially mention Fixodent and Polydent. My husband uses Fixodent and also is unable to walk without a cane. If he misplaces the cane, he has to hold onto the walls or furniture to walk around. This might be a just a coincident.
Avatar n tn the clinical trial they used up to 600mg of zinc a day..but Fourteen of the 23 zinc-treated patients had complete remission of their warts after one month of treatment. Complete clearance of warts was noted in 20 patients after two months...NO ONE in the Placebo group showed ANY improvements..so why wont my doctor listen to me?
Avatar f tn everyone keeps saying to get Zinc/mag but I don't know what it is and what it's for. How much is enough?
Avatar f tn You also might want to check out this web site on ADHD. It is by a person with ADHD and you can get a good feeling about what it is and what it can do to you. Information is important! http://jeffsaddmind.com/for-first-time-visitors To sum it up, I am not necessarily sure that what you are feeling is a side effect of V. However, it is very possible that your dose can be lowered and it will work perfectly fine for you. There are several ways that a dose can be carefully lowered.
Avatar m tn If your zinc was too high that would explain the copper deficiency, as too much zinc leaches copper out of the body. The solution is to decrease your zinc intake. If it was just high but normal, then that probably isn't the problem. But if it's too high, again, you don't need to supplement copper, you need to decrease wherever the excess zinc is coming from. This is why zinc always has a warning about not taking too much.
