My (very soon to be) 4 y/o old is going through evaluations to diagnose a possible learning disability since he's exhibited some concerns in pre-school. The evaluator has said she's sure he has ADHD, but also shows some traits of a child with asperger's syndrome (sp). Since at this time, ADHD is the only 'definitive' diagnosis, I was wondering if some one could tell me some webistes, or books they have read to help them understand it all and how to help my son.

If you really want to follow up on the ADHD, you will probably have better luck with a pediatric psychiatrist then a pediatrician. Finally, Its probably a good idea to start reading up on ADHD.

The trouble with the ADHD meds is that everyone is different. Sometimes it takes a bit of trial and error to get it right. Good communication with your doctor is important. And if your doctor is a pediatrician - well, they don't always have the training to make the right choices. Anyway to answer your question. Personally, I don't think that homeopathy will help very much if they already have a good diet and are not allergic to any foods.

I might be pregnant and I am taking antidepressents and a pill for my ADHD I dont find out if im pregnabt for another 3 Weeks but I am very curious could these medications affect my "baby" in any way during this kind of development?

I have terrible ADHD. Took Concerta for 10 years. For the last two years I have been without it. I am to begin studying for my RN in the fall. I am 20, with no insurance and without the Concerta I just know I will not make it through my classes. What are some alternatives???

I took a self test to deterime which kind of ADHD I had ( there are 6 different kinds.) The test results showed that I had Ring Of Fire ADHD. I was researching this specific type of ADHD and this is what I found: Type 6 -- The Ring of Fire. Cross between ADHD and bipolar disorder. Characterized by moodiness, aggressiveness, and anger. Ok, I've got ADHD, I don't know if I have it bad or not. I used to be hyper, silly, etc. which was slightly annoying but it didn't get in the way too much. But it's sort of transformed now, into me thinking things over too much, maybe it's me being so uptight about keeping a lid on the hyperactivity that I think too much. But it means i try to change my personality when i'm around friends so i don't annoy them and end up making things worse.

The only reason that I can think of for him being on Focalin is that he has ADHD. And ALL of the things that you describe are very typical behaviors for someone who has ADHD. The guy I'm kind of seeing is Bipolar and had ADHD as a kid. His Mother family has a Bipolar history and his father is bipolar. I'm pregnant and not Bipolar and not ADHD. No one in my family is bipolar or ADHD. Will my unborn baby be bipolar? What are the chances? I am so scared and I'm stressed out about this.

ADHD medications can sometimes cause problems for people with bipolar but not always and they can often be helpful for ADHD. Look up the medication websites as well. Then you can discuss that issue further with them.

I'm not sure what I am? I am going to a psychiatrist on a regular basis-almost a year now. I have been on several differnt depression meds & have had horrible withdrawal symptoms with some of the meds & such. I have also been diagnosed w/ADD. Currently I am taking Pristiq (50mg) and so far it is working now, after almost 4 weeks! i was almost ready to give up on it, too! I also take Adderall 20mg (2times a day) and feeling better.

The most important question is does she become this angry and violent person only with you? or also at school? If it is only happening with you, than she is somewhat in control of her actions. If this is happening at school you need to make sure she is tested for special ed.

So my doctor said to me the other day that ADHD/ADD is only a childrens disorder and that adults cant have it. I for one highly disagree but was wondering about how others felt regarding Adult ADD/ADHD. All opinions are welcome but PLEASE be considerate about others thoughts and feelings.

I'm warning you, the person is not a doctor and he makes sure to put that disclaimer on his site. I'm also concerned about the "cure all" approach and claims on the site. (Claims to resolve everything from ADHD and autism to even getting rid of alcohol cravings.) If it does help, good, but to me it seems more faith based than actual science.

We tried putting my 9 year old son (who has ADHD) on Concerta about a month ago and after about 4 days, he started frequently rolling his eyes involuntarily up and to the right. We took him off immediately, but the symptoms have persisted. I'm not sure if it was caused by the Concerta, as he'd previously been on it for a month about a year ago and did not display the eye rolling. I used to take ADHD medication to manage my condition beginning when I was about 13 years old. I am now 23. I continued this for about 5 or 6 years, and then gradually came down off of my medications. The question I have is why hyperacusis is not listed as a disability/hearing impairment anywhere, in Canada and the US (and England) on Ministries of Health websites, and in point of fact, everyone diagnosed with it is excluded from all disability-related employment programs, let alone accommodation in the workplace.
